Re: [Bug 1320157] Re: user space gnome-terminal overflows / file system

2014-05-21 Thread Sergei Vorobyov
gnome-terminal stores the scrollback content in a temporary file, opened
at the standard location which is /tmp by default, overridable with the
 standard TMPDIR environment variable

this default/standard location /tmp is certainly inadmissible, since it's
an obvious welcome hackers breach. Users should be restricted to use their
own quotas, even for the g-t. If there are thousands applications being
regularly used on a system which behave similarly, should all of them be
audited and reconfigured against such gotchas?

May be unlimited should be understood as unlimited within
 reasonable limits?

g-t tries to do what you ask from this. If you ask this to remember
everything, it tries to store everything. What do you mean by
reasonable limits? E.g. 1 million lines? Feel free to set this in
 gnome-terminal's preferences :)

 Title:
user space gnome-terminal overflows / file system

Status in “gnome-terminal” package in Ubuntu:
   New

 Bug description:
I have two partitions on my system:

   $ df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
   /dev/sda3 23G 12G 11G 52% /
   /dev/sda6 98G 67G 27G 72% /home

When I run a user application (on /home) which produces lots of
debugging output to the terminal, it quickly (less than a day)
overflows the root file system /. I think I figured the reason for
   that:

I selected the unlimited option for scrolling back in the gnome
   terminal.

The question is this: why does it overflow the / rather than the /home
partition? May be unlimited should be understood as unlimited
   within reasonable limits?

   I earlier reported it as

   https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/e2fsprogs/+bug/1319667

(Of course I am not going to use this in a production application. It
popped up in a stress testing, where I modeled events which happen
usually once or twice a minute at accelerated speed, of thousands of
   times per second)

   $ lsb_release -rd

   3) I expected it to chop off the terminal output when it grew
unreasonably big, or at least not to overflow the / partition, staying
   in /home instead.

   4) it overflew the / partition instead

These items have disappeared and now I have to mouse to the zoom menu on

[Bug 1318673] Re: Modifier-only input switching with non-latin keyboard layouts has no effect under GNOME Shell

2014-05-21 Thread William Hua
Hi John, I'm not sure why g-s-d isn't starting for you, can you check
your ~/.cache/upstart/gnome-settings-daemon.log files? I think that
should be filed as a separate bug. Do you recall ever experiencing the
problem before trying the package in trusty-proposed?

Haggai, I managed to replicate your issue a few times, but not with any
reliable method. But for me, if I restart the session, the problem
disappears; is it the case for you? It might be best to file a separate
bug instead, because I don't believe this to be a regression, but a
symptom of another problem...

Alexander, sorry, I tested it with Qt Creator as well, but unfortunately
it didn't work before either. There's this bug already filed for it:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-touch-

[Bug 1321816] [NEW] udev uses wrong/conflicting /dev/disk/by-path link for scsi disks

2014-05-21 Thread Phillip Susi
Public bug reported:

The /dev/disk/by-path links to scsi disks are supposed to be of the form
scsi-$host:$bus:$device$lun. The host portion is always zero, leading
to duplicates from different hosts. It appears these numbers are pulled
from ID_PATH, and I can't figure out where this variable comes from.

I noticed this while playing around with the lio fake scsi target
adapter. Here is the full udev info on a disk created on such an
adapter. As you can see, it has been assigned scsi host id 13, so that
is what it should be using for the $host digit, rather than zero.

[Bug 1321823] [NEW] deault unity menu does not show with desktop

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Description: The default menu panel for unity doesn not show when no
other program is highlighted. It should display something similar to the
Nautilus Menu. Problem did - if I remember right - also occur with my
Precise Pangolin.

Reproduce: Minimize or close all active windows or hit show desktop
button. Move mouse to the very top to show standard menu.

Additional information:
- using standard global menu
- only an optical (not an essential) issue
- using Trusty right now

Just thought I might report this since it affected me for a longer time

@Alberto Low? Really?

Since 13.10, between this and https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source

[Bug 1246272] Re: Keyboard layout changing randomly

2014-05-21 Thread Jochen Fahrner
I'm also wondering why this is of low priority. A system with a broken
keyboard layout is totally broken and unusable. IMHO this is high!

I'm thinking about downgrading to 12.04 which really worked flawless for
me. Since install of 14.04 I have lots of problems on my MacBook 5,1.

Nouveau is crashing on resume from suspend. Bug #884

Nvidia often does not recognize graphics card and input devices. Bug
#1319899

Wifi often tries endless to connect. Maybe Bug #1310746, I'm not sure.

Keyboard layout is changing randomly.

My MacBook got really unusable with this upgrade. All these bugs exits
since months, and my hope that they will be fixed soon is fading away
from day to day.

This is not what the One Hundred Papercuts claims. :-(

[Bug 1321922] [NEW] gnome-keyring-daemon failing of sshfs

2014-05-21 Thread Charlie Ott
Public bug reported:

Use whatever local installation you want, e.g. an ubuntu live cd

killall gnome-keyring-daemon
cd ~/.gnome2
mv keyrings keyrings.old
mkdir keyrings keyrings.new
chmod 700 keyrings keyrings.new

sshfs localhost:/home/username/.gnome2/keyrings.new keyrings
gnome-keyring-daemon -s -f

With those commands, you're running gnome-keyring-daemon using sshfs for
keyrings

This causes the gnome-keyring-daemon to hang, while simultaneously creating
thousands of *temp* files in ~/.local/share/keyrings

** Affects: gnome-keyring (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1321091] Re: readdir function returns inconsistent d_type

2014-05-21 Thread Egmont Koblinger
man readdir also says:

Currently, only some filesystems (among them: Btrfs, ext2, ext3, and
ext4) have full support for returning the file type in d_type. All
applications must properly handle a return of DT_UNKNOWN.

You need to do an lstat in this case, as you said. This is the expected
behavior.

This has absolutely nothing to do with gnome-terminal.

[Bug 1242678]

2014-05-21 Thread Marek Kašík
Created attachment 99156
Rotate documents correctly

This patch solves the problem with the problematic PostScript file for
me but it is kind of a hack. It replaces occurrences of setpagedevice
with pop so that its parameters don't influence the
rendering to the display device. I have looked into PostScript
LANGUAGE REFERENCE and it seems to me that the parameters which are set
by setpagedevice are not important for rendering to display device
(but I'm not really sure here).

[Bug 1321350] Re: Trash applet don't change the 'full icon' after the system disconnect a USB driver in Ubuntu 14.04

2014-05-21 Thread antonioni
Probably I discovered a pattern: This problem occurs when one or more
files are deleted from the memory stick and this process automatically
creates a hidden folder called .Trash-1000 (and another hidden files)
in the memory stick.

The icons are in sync while the memory stick is connected and files are
created in and deleted from the memory stick. When the memory stick is
disconnected later, this bug occurs when the trash applet is cleaned.

Fix this ridiculous bug, it is dirtying the reputation of the Ubuntu
here!
