[Bug 1069843] Re: Nautilus consuming memory and cpu

2014-08-13 Thread Thomas Mayer
There's a bunch of bug reports out there, also affecting other distros:
https://bugs.debian.org/731304
https://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2012/09/msg00124.html
https://ask.fedoraproject.org/en/question/33842/why-is-nautilus-using-100-of-the-cpu-on-fedora-19/

As long as nautilus can't write thumbnails (disk full) it seems to
consume cpu according to
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=655421. The missing symlink
could also prevent nautilus from writing thumbnails.

[Bug 1069843] Re: Nautilus consuming memory and cpu

2014-08-13 Thread Thomas Mayer
I guess a symlink in the home directories needs to be fixed by the
distros, not by gnome upstream. Changes in the package would not
necessarily fix the symlink in the home directories.

Plus, the nautilus software can't delete the wrong ~/.cache/thumbnails
directory, because this directory only has root permissions, which
nautilus eventually does not have. Maybe there's a way to work around
that, I don't know...

[Bug 1292398] Re: multi-monitor : second screen position isn't saved from one session to another

2014-08-13 Thread Thomas W.
Because this seems to be a timing issue, I extend the approach of
HaraldK. The idea is just start the g-s-d a little bit later. Therefore
I create a file /usr/share/upstart/sessions/gnome-settings-
daemon.override which overrides the exec statement:

script
  sleep 2
  exec /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon
end script

This works for me on several setups (with SSD and conventional hard
disks). Adding a somewhat random delay is not really a satisfying
solution. A real Bugfix is still needed!

Other test relying on /etc/xdg/autostart/ completely fail, although the
autostart is basically working and a g-s-d startup file is installed by
default.

[Bug 1356045] Re: Manage dash UI is frozen

2014-08-13 Thread Michał Sawicz
OK so in fact it seems to be a frozen dash, not the bug mentioned above.

Something between the dash and the location trust store UI gets wonky.

[Bug 1356616] [NEW] unsuccessful password attempts for decrypting sdcard eventually opens mutiple windows when successful

2014-08-13 Thread Joe Liau
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS
Release:14.04

nautilus:
  Installed: 1:3.10.1-0ubuntu9.2
  Candidate: 1:3.10.1-0ubuntu9.3
  Version table:
 1:3.10.1-0ubuntu9.3 0
500 http://mirror.it.ubc.ca/ubuntu/ trusty-updates/main amd64 Packages
 *** 1:3.10.1-0ubuntu9.2 0
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 1:3.10.1-0ubuntu8 0
500 http://mirror.it.ubc.ca/ubuntu/ trusty/main amd64 Packages

---

I have an encrypted SD card. When mounted, I am prompted for the
password. If the password is entered correctly, then nautilus will open
a window displaying the SD card contents.

If I make a mistake typing the password then the SD is not decrypted and
no window opens. This is normal. However, when I do successfully enter
the password, nautilus opens a window for each unsuccessful attempt on
top of the correct one.

e.g. Insert SD card:
- Prompt for password: enter wrong password (1)
-Second try: enter wrong password (2)
-Third try: enter correct password (3)
-Three nautilus windows open

I would expect that only one window would open, and that each
unsuccessful attempt would reset any command to open a window.

[Bug 896595] Re: Ubuntu does not remember LID brightness

2014-08-13 Thread Pierre Equoy
The problem still happens with Ubuntu 14.04.

I'm using an Asus K43SD (Intel® Pentium(R) CPU B970 @ 2.30GHz × 2 and
GeForce 610M/PCIe/SSE2 GPU).

Steps to reproduce:

1. Using Settings Brightness Lock (or Brightness Indicator
https://launchpad.net/~indicator-brightness/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+packages),
set the screen brightness to minimum (see attachement for details).
2. Wait until the screen turns off (in my case, 5 minutes).
3. Wake up the screen by moving the mouse/typing on the keyboard
→ the screen brightness is back to 100% (Not OK)
→ Brightness indicator indicates brightness=0
→ Brightness level in Settings is also to the minimum, which is in
contradiction with the fact that screen brightness is to the max.

If I scroll down on the brightness indicator, the screen will
immediately go to the dimmest brightness.

I hope a solution can be found for this issue! :)

While an internal test script tries to auto login for running the tests on the

so we added the below lines to /etc/init/hvc0.conf :
'exec /sbin/getty --autologin root -8 38400 tty1'

Now, the reboot is stuck, with below boot logs :

Hi Daniel

Thanks for noticing my comment.

I have now retested and everything seems to be working *ok*. I think
that I had not rebooted after I tested after upgrading.

Thanks for all the work you do.

I will try and find the bug report and update my comments.
