I had the same issue in Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS. Another situation to reproduce the problem is: on the keyboard, press the Calculator Button (keyboard shortcut). It'll open in background. [Bug 1420877] [NEW] bash hangs, apparantly in connection with large outputs
Public bug reported: I use the bash in a gnome-terminal window with several open tabs. It happens frequently (once in a work day) that a bash tab simply stops to respond, i.e., it takes no key-strokes anymore. As other tabs continue to work I guess its not the fault of gnome-terminal but the bash hangs. I can observe this behavior on two PCs. I am a developer and the programs I start in the bash print lots of debug-output, so there may be a connection with large outputs. bash: Installiert: 4.3-11ubuntu1 Installationskandidat: 4.3-11ubuntu1 Versionstabelle: *** 4.3-11ubuntu1 0 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ utopic/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status Description:Ubuntu 14.10 Release:14.10 ** Affects: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1420877 Title: bash hangs, apparantly in connection with large outputs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/1420877/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1420659] Re: systemd-timedated is not keeping the time synchronized
The symlink warning is unrelated, it's just cosmetical. timedated is not an NTP service; it's not supposed to keep the time synchronized. That's either done by ntpdate (which is installed by default on desktops) or ntp (which you can install yourself). timedatectl only does one-time time setting/querying. ** Changed in: systemd (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1420659 Title: systemd-timedated is not keeping the time synchronized To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1420659/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1420698] [NEW] use network time is not installing ntp?
Public bug reported: I discovered that, even if I checked use network time in the control panel, the package ntp was not installed (just ntpdate). This caused a drift in time in my desktop (which is always on); after a couple of days if I deselect the the option and select it again I have: SYS: Feb 11 08:47:58 pern kernel: [775917.016524] systemd-timedated[14157]: Set NTP to disabled SYS: Feb 11 08:47:59 pern kernel: [775918.305488] systemd-timedated[14157]: Set NTP to enabled SYS: Feb 11 08:48:59 pern ntpdate[14170]: step time server 91.189.94.4 offset 53.842810 sec SYS: Feb 11 08:49:01 pern dovecot: imap: Warning: Time jumped forwards 53 seconds I solved it manually by install ntp --- but shouldn't this be automatically done if I choose use network time? It doesn't seem a one shot option at all --- it stays put (it is not like a button to read network time now or similar). Thanks! ** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: use network time option https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1420698/+attachment/4317012/+files/Selection_019.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1420698 Title: use network time is not installing ntp? [Bug 1420659] [NEW] systemd-timedated is not keeping the time synchronized
Public bug reported: I do not know if this is related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1409594 In my system, 14.04 fully updated, the time is not kept in sync with network servers. When starting, I have this complain: Feb 11 08:47:51 pern kernel: [775910.071548] systemd-timedated[14157]: /etc/localtime should be a symbolic link to a timezone data file in /usr/share/zoneinfo/. But then no error is shown, and the setting panels says that I am using network time --- which is not true. After a day, if I deselect/reselect network time, I have: SYS: Feb 11 08:47:58 pern kernel: [775917.016524] systemd-timedated[14157]: Set NTP to disabled SYS: Feb 11 08:47:59 pern kernel: [775918.305488] systemd-timedated[14157]: Set NTP to enabled SYS: Feb 11 08:48:59 pern ntpdate[14170]: step time server 91.189.94.4 offset 53.842810 sec SYS: Feb 11 08:49:01 pern dovecot: imap: Warning: Time jumped forwards 53 seconds ...so it's definitely not working. Re: [Bug 1419339] Re: Terminal input offset incorrect after output with no trailing newline and then cycling up through commands
Thanks, both those methods work for me. Run a very long command, the command should be wider than the terminal width so it wraps round to the next line. For this example, run a long echo command, such as: echo joi fowiejf fsweiofj woifj weiof weif wioejf weif woifjw ofwioe fdwiojf wfw fiowejfeddjj fjwepf fweijf fwekfnwe fwef wefw efe fewf wef wef 2. Run program that outputs to stdout without a trailing newline, e.g. printf oiwjgoiwgoiwoiawbn So your terminal should look like: oiwjgoiwgoiwoiawbnusername@pcname:~$ 3. Use the up arrow key to go back to the long command you entered 4. Press the home button. The cursor goes to the wrong location, behind the start of the actual command and the start of where the command would be had it not been for the printf command. Then move the cursor to just before the echo statement, and type less to change echo to lessecho (a version of echo which expands meta characters). You should notice what the problem is now, the location your cursor appears to be at is not the actual location in the command, but where it would be if the printf command had not just been run. This is annoying because it can cause you to incorrectly modify old commands. [Bug 1351890] Re: Changing external screen resolution with dual monitors
Attached the patch for GTK+2 which makes gdk_event_apply_filters function safe against changes in filter list. This patch is cherry- picked from GTK+3 and adapted to GTK+2. I've tested it in Precise, Trusty and Utopic. It applies cleanly in all three Ubuntu releases, and mate-display-properties doesn't crash anymore after GTK+2 is patched. ** Patch added: This patch makes gdk_event_apply_filters function safe against changes in filter list. https://bugs.launchpad.net/debian/+source/gtk+2.0/+bug/1351890/+attachment/4317115/+files/fix_gdk_event_apply_filters.patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gtk+2.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1351890 Title: Changing external screen resolution with dual monitors To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gtk/+bug/1351890/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
