[Bug 1434758] [NEW] mysqld: errno: 24 - Too many open files

2015-03-20 Thread postadelmaga
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to 15.04 mysql cannot set the file limit and so it
doesn't work well.

/var/log/mysql/error.log shows the following:

[Warning] Buffered warning: Changed limits: max_open_files: 1024 (requested
5000)
[Warning] Buffered warning: Changed limits: table_cache: 431 (requested 2000)
[ERROR] /usr/sbin/mysqld: Can't open file: ... (errno: 24 - Too many open files)

The issue looks to be related to the recent switch to systemd indeed if
I start using upstart everything work fine.

I found out similar issues reported on Debian and the general suggestion
is to add following line to the `mysqld.service` anyway this file is not
present on my installation :

LimitNOFILE=infinity
LimitMEMLOCK=infinity

Other distro stores this file in `/usr/lib/systemd/system/mysqld.service`
I'm not sure how Ubuntu is managing this, maybe with file in dir /etc/default/ ?

I have also tried adding following lines in /etc/security/limits.conf,
but the problem persist:

mysql hard nofile 65535

[Bug 1247366] Re: Evolution is missing bogofilter integration

2015-03-20 Thread Paul Smith
Thank you Iain! Is there any possibility this can get backported to
14.04? As an LTS release, it would be REALLY nice to have this fix
there too... I think this patch applies cleanly to 3.11 as well as 3.12.

[Bug 445084] Re: click-to-focus window is too sensitive

2015-03-20 Thread Harry Coin
Still happening in Trusty 14.04 LTS. Renders gnome-terminal unusable.
Click on a tab and 75% of the time you get a new window. xubuntu nvidia
mutltimonitor setup. Changed the 'drag detection' in the mouse settings
to be an insensitive as possible, no change. Too bad really, I liked
the feature set otherwise.

[Bug 1430620] Re: gnome-terminal writes excessively to /tmp (affecting SSD drives)

2015-03-20 Thread Egmont Koblinger
After 1 week of usage, my gnome-terminals have written a total of 48 MB.
Out of this, about 40 MB was cating my favorite test file 4 times for
speed measurement purposes, and the remaining about 8 MB was the normal
tasks I performed, including management of several remote servers via
ssh, compilation of several applications over and over again, and a
complete dist-upgrade to Vivid alpha (not in screen as it's done by
default, but actually writing to the terminal's scrollback) and dist-
upgrading again a few times.

Assuming 75 TB lifetime as mentioned in comment 3 (which is about 1/10
of the actual lifetime measured in this stress-test:
http://techreport.com/review/27909/the-ssd-endurance-experiment-theyre-
all-dead), I would have to keep this usage pattern for 30 years and then
it'd cause 0.1% of the SSD wear-out.

Of course your usage patterns might differ significantly and result in
magnitudes higher numbers; let me know if that's the case.

Note: resizing with rewrapping is an issue, if you do it with a large
scrollback then it produces a lot of output, it writes quicker than upon
normal operation. This might be a concern; a workaround could be to
disable rewrapping on resize, using a relatively small scrollback
buffer, or disabling opaque resize in the WM. (The data is in the
ballpark of 5–10 bytes per line on each resize, i.e. probably less than
1 MB if you have 100.000 lines. The real problem is that most WMs send
many resize events during a manual resize.)

In the mean time, I've done a proof of concept in the upstream bug to
store the scrollback in memory, and I'm planning to make it a mainstream
feature.

[Bug 164120] Re: file manager hangs when mounted nfs drive is no longer accessible

2015-03-20 Thread grauscho
This seems to affect several KDE applications as well (ark, ksnapshot).

I have a NAS which is mounted by autofs. If I accidentically power it
off before my computer, then opening a file dialog in said applications
lets them hang. Output from strace indicates that there's an lstat call
which doesn't return:

lstat(/media, {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0755, st_size=4096, ...}) = 0
lstat(/media/nfs, {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0755, st_size=0, ...}) = 0
lstat(/media/nfs/share,

My system is Kubuntu 12.04.5 LTS, Kernel 3.5.0-60-generic, KDE 4.12.2.
