[Bug 575302] Re: bad behavior when deleting files from encrypted 7-Zip archive

2015-04-02 Thread Robert Phair
As a user (not a developer) I can confirm that this bug still exists in
version Archive Manager 3.10.2.1 - at least on 64-bit Ubuntu 14.04,
though I don't understand why the priority is low. I am working on a
textbook for Ubuntu secure workflow and will hope for a pushed-out fix
within 3 to 6 months so I don't have to refer readers to a third-party
application to handle encrypted 7-Zip files. Thanks for providing the
fix and please let me know how I can monitor its availability to the
rest of the world.

[Bug 1251281] Re: gnome-session-flashback/Unity fails to start without hardware acceleration in cloud/remote environments (Forwarded-X/XRDP/VNC/NX/X2GO/Chromoting)

2015-04-02 Thread Ryan Tandy
Hi all,

The patches that were in my PPA (ppa:rtandy/flashback) are now in
trusty-proposed and utopic-proposed; so if you were using those
packages, please head over to bug 1416081, test the proposed packages,
and leave your feedback there.

If you had the PPA packages installed, please ensure you _downgrade_ to
the proposed packages as the version in -proposed is lower than what was
in the PPA. ppa-purge may help with that. (My bad; will choose ppa
versions more carefully next time.)

Thanks!

[Bug 1241972] Re: Drag and drop from Dash to Desktop doesn't work

2015-04-02 Thread Recep GUCLUER
As a workaround I used as told in:
Comment 25 for bug 1241972
(Valentin Crone (va-crone) wrote on 2014-06-07:) with some modifications:
1 - open nautilus (File browser)
( normal usage of nautilus gave me an error, using with sudo is ok.)
sudo nautilus

2 - Go to: /usr/share/applications/
This folder contains all shortcuts of the menu.
Copy what you would, and paste where you would.

This solved my problem. Thanks Valentin.

I hope the issue will not appear in the next LTS.

[Bug 1241972] Re: Drag and drop from Dash to Desktop doesn't work

2015-04-02 Thread Valentin Crone
This type of bug, like sometimes bug with control panel (incomplete, or
bugged), or unable to do something without searching a command line on the web
to solve a innexistant function in GUI, or a bug, is typicaly what it's a
problem with beginner, or person who search to have a easy computer with
Ubuntu, and they ran away.
So, this type of bug or lack must be considered as important bugs for a general
public distribution.

[Bug 1385882] Re: Unable to mount iPad with IOS 8

2015-04-02 Thread Albert
I confirm the same errors occur with iPhone4s and iOS 8.2, ubuntu 14.04.

After installing the ppa for libimobiledevice 1.6, I manage to
sometimes, inconsistently, be able to mount the phone and transfer files
(e.g. pictures from the DCIM folder). The sequence that has worked
(sometimes) is the following:

1. write sudo idevicepair pair to a terminal and push enter. Enter your
password. The phone is not plugged yet so nothing happens.
2. push the up arrow to have the above command ready for execution.
3. make sure the phone is unlocked (that is, you can click on apps, etc.)
4. plug the phone
5. push enter quickly
6. Select Trust in the popup that shows in the phone.
7. Sometimes, you will get the phone mounted. Copy files. Make sure the phone
doesn't lock up from lack of activity or the file transfer will be interrupted
(happened at least once).

So: brittle, but it can work.

Would be lovely if this could be made robust. Thanks a lot to the
authors of the libimobiledevice library.

[Bug 1439923] [NEW] GTK does not build because gtk_menu_tracker_item_get_menu_item does not always return a value

2015-04-02 Thread Steve Dodier-Lazaro
Public bug reported:

Tested version: 3.14.11-0ubuntu1
Bug most likely introduced in: 3.10.6-0ubuntu1

gtk_menu_tracker_item_get_menu_item and
gtk_menu_tracker_item_get_action_namespace both have return types, but
use g_return_if_fail instead of g_return_val_if_fail.

Attached is a diff of the change I made to make my Clang build the

correct (I have no idea what GtkMenuTrackerItem is).

[Bug 1315442] Re: Extra fi in /etc/init.d/gdm

2015-04-02 Thread Scott Sanbar
I have made a fix for this bug and attached it as a debdiff to this
comment:

This is a very simple change to the code in debian/gdm.init - I remove
line 73 which has an extra unmatched fi

Tested as follows:
Built binaries using sbuild in latest vivid environment on a trusty machine.
Fired up an Ubuntu-Gnome vivid daily build (current for 4/2/2015) LiveCD in a
virtual machine. Verified the bug failure on the plain vanilla vivid LiveCD as
follows:

cd /etc/init.d
./gdm

Could not get the failure with ./gdm start like mentioned in the bug
report - had to leave out start

Copied all the .deb files from the vivid sbuild on the trusty machine
onto the Ubuntu-Gnome vivid vm. Installed the four .deb files using
dpkg -i ... Install succeeded, and visually inspecting
/etc/init.d/gdm showed line 73 was indeed removed. Typed:

cd /etc/init.d
./gdm

At the command prompt and got no error about fi - just showed the
informational message about usage (because I left out start). This
confirms that the bug is fixed for the current version of vivid.

** Patch added: Fix for LP: #1315442 - removed line 73 (extra fi) - tested
on Ubuntu-Gnome vivid

[Bug 518056] Re: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c

2015-04-02 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Thanks for your comments re pt_PT, Leandro.

As long as we consider setting LC_CTYPE, in any of the ways mentioned in
comment #96, a fix, it should be noted that '+c results in ç
irrespective of which keyboard layout you use. In other words, the
changed behavior is not conditioned by the use of an English US
international keyboard layout, as Raphael suggested in comment #98. I
assume that this was considered a reasonable behavior for Brazilian
users, considering which physical keyboards are typically used in
Brazil.

We could propose a change to the libx11 package which adds a
/usr/share/X11/locale/pt_PT.UTF-8/Compose file. But before proposing
such a change I would like to ask if it would make as much sense for
users living in Portugal as the corresponding Brazilian file makes for
users living in Brazil.

* Do users who live in Portugal use an English US international
keyboard layout as often as Brazilian users do, or do they typically
  use some Portuguese keyboard layout?

* Since the behavior may make typing certain other European languages
more difficult, is that drawback possibly of greater importance for
  users living in Portugal (Europe)?

The only Portuguese locales which are supported in Ubuntu are pt_PT and
pt_BR.

I guess unity team is now focusing more on Unity 8, which will be the

2015-04-02 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1439704] [NEW] increase default scrollback limit

2015-04-02 Thread Karl-Philipp Richter
Public bug reported:

There's a really high change that (verbose) commands exceed 8192 lines
out output and a very small chance that a high multiple (e.g.
8192*8192=67108864) causes any disadvantage. I think that setting a
limit is already problematic - imagine running `btrfs check` for some
hours and figuring out that most of you output is lost (might even be a
problem with a scrollback limit of 67108864). Even a `~/.bash_history`
of 50 MB shouldn't be a problem regarding average HDD size, btrfs
compression and the ability to set `HISTSIZE` and `HISTFILESIZE`.

[Bug 1439704] Re: increase default scrollback limit

2015-04-02 Thread Egmont Koblinger
Beware that:

- The scrollback contents need to reside somewhere. Currently it's on
disk (compressed as of 0.40, but still). We shouldn't surprise users by
filling up their disks.

- Content rewrapping on resize starts to become noticably slow at around
100.000 lines of scrollback.

IMO scrollback buffer is a conveniece feature, not something you should
heavily rely on to be present under all circumstances. If you're
running a command that you expect to produce lot of output and you do
need the whole output, you should redirect that to a file.

That being said, you can increase it for yourself even to infinite and
deal with the drawbacks. Given these drawbacks, I don't think the
default should be bigger than 10.000 - 50.000-ish.

[Bug 1431107] Re: ordering cycles with lvm2 init script with inappropriate rc2.d links

2015-04-02 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package systemd - 219-6ubuntu1

---
systemd (219-6ubuntu1) vivid; urgency=medium

  * Merge with Debian experimental branch. Remaining Ubuntu changes:
- Hack to support system-image read-only /etc, and modify files in
  /etc/writable/ instead.
- Keep our much simpler udev maintainer scripts (all platforms must
  support udev, no debconf).
- initramfs init-top: Drop $ROOTDELAY, we do that in a more sensible way
with wait-for-root. Will get applicable to Debian once Debian gets
  wait-for-root in initramfs-tools.
- initramfs init-bottom: If LVM is installed, settle udev,
otherwise we get missing LV symlinks. Workaround for LP #1185394.
- Add debian/udev.lvm2.init: Dummy SysV init script to satisfy insserv
dependencies to lvm2 which is handled with udev rules in Ubuntu.
- Provide shutdown fallback for upstart. (LP: #1370329)
- debian/extra/ifup@.service: Additionally run for auto class. We don't
really support allow-hotplug in Ubuntu at the moment, so we need to
deal with auto devices appearing after /etc/init.d/networking start
already ran. (LP: #1374521) Also, check if devices are actually defined
  in /etc/network/interfaces as we don't use Debian's net.agent.
- ifup@.service: Drop dependency on networking.service (i. e.
/etc/init.d/networking), and merely ensure that /run/network exists.
This avoids unnecessary dependencies/waiting during boot and dependency
cycles if hooks wait for other interfaces to come up (like ifenslave
  with bonding interfaces). (LP: #1414544)
- Add Get-RTC-is-in-local-time-setting-from-etc-default-rc.patch: In
Ubuntu we currently keep the setting whether the RTC is in local or UTC
  time in /etc/default/rcS UTC=yes|no, instead of /etc/adjtime.
  (LP: #1377258)
- Put session scopes into all cgroup controllers. This makes unprivileged
user LXC containers work under systemd. (LP: #1346734)
- systemctl: Don't forward telinit u to upstart. This works around
upstart's Restart() always reexec'ing /sbin/init on Restart(), even if
that changes to point to systemd during the upgrade. This avoids running
  systemd during a dist-upgrade. (LP: #1430479)
- Lower Breaks: to plymouth version which has the udev inotify fix in
  Ubuntu.
- Lower libappamor1 dep to the Ubuntu version where it moved to /lib.
- Change systemd-sysv's conflicts to upstart-sysv. (LP: #1422681)
- Make failure of boot-and-services NSpawn.test_boot non-fatal for now.
This currently fails when being triggered by Jenkins, but is totally
unreproducible when running this manually on the exact same machine.

Upgrade fixes, keep until 16.04 LTS release:
- systemd Conflicts/Replaces/Provides systemd-services.
- Remove obsolete systemd-logind upstart job.
- Clean up obsolete /etc/udev/rules.d/README.

  * Add debian/udev.lvm2.service to avoid running the dummy lvm2 init script.
(LP: #1431107)

systemd (219-6) experimental; urgency=medium

  [ Martin Pitt ]
  * Import patches from v219-stable branch (up to 85a6fab).
  * boot-and-services autopkgtest: Add missing python3 test dependency.
  * Make apparmor run before networking, to ensure that profiles apply to
e. g. dhclient (LP: #1438249):
- Rename networking.service.d/network-pre.conf to systemd.conf, and add
  After=apparmor.service.
- ifup@.service: Add After=apparmor.service.
  * udev: Drop hwdb-update dependency, which got introduced by the above
v219-stable branch. This causes udev and plymouth to start too late and
isn't really needed in Debian yet as we don't support stateless systems
yet and handle hwdb.bin updates through dpkg triggers. (LP: #1439301)

  [ Didier Roche ]
  * Fix mount point detection on overlayfs and similar file systems without
name_to_handle_at() and st_dev support. (LP: #1411140)

  [ Christian Seiler ]
  * Make the journald to syslog forwarding more robust by increasing the
maximum datagram queue length from 10 to 512. (Closes: #762700)

  [ Marco d'Itri ]
  * Avoid writing duplicate entries in 70-persistent-net.rules by double
checking if the new udev rule has already been written for the given
interface. This happens if multiple add events are generated before the
write_net_rules script returns and udevd renames the interface.

with wait-for-root.

  After=apparmor.service.

  * Fix mount point detection on overlayfs and similar file systems without
name_to_handle_at() and st_dev support. (LP: #1411140)

(Closes: #765577)

[Bug 1415029] Re: Not yet available but configured providers should be added as soon as they become available

2015-04-02 Thread Ken VanDine
@thomas-voss: Sure, it should be robust, which is why I don't think
system-settings should be restarting the service. It's one thing to do
that at the end of the wizard upstart job, but we can't really do that
during runtime.

@Chris, we could, but utopic is going to be non-current-stable this
month and is not a LTS, I don't fancy much spending SRU work on it now

[Bug 1438422] Re: Hybrid laptop's accelerometer tilt interpreted as WiFi hardware switch

2015-04-02 Thread Adam Colligan
Update: this bug also appears if the screen is held level in a normal,
vertical position and the keyboard hinge is rotated around it. If I
swing the keyboard under and around the screen into tablet mode, then
swing it back into laptop mode, WiFi is disabled and has to be manually
re-enabled via Network Manager.

[Bug 1241972] Re: Drag and drop from Dash to Desktop doesn't work

2015-04-02 Thread Recep GUCLUER
I agree with you Valentin. It is a barrier for beginners. I tried linux
since 1998. Several distros. And never used more than two weeks. Since
2014. I decided to insist on trying the desktop linux distributions. Now
, I use linux as my primary OS. I was using Mint 17 , switched to Ubuntu
14.04 last week. As you say , problems with basic user interface makes
it harder for people to switch to Linux.
