[Bug 1535184] [NEW] Is it reasonable to move "zenity" from "Depends:" to "Recommends:" for metacity package?

2016-01-17 Thread Cui Wei
Public bug reported:

Actually metacity don't really depend on "zenity" package.

I want to install metacity and purge zenity because zenity depends on
too much heavy packages like aspell, dictionaries-common, libwebkit-
gtk-3, libgstreams-0.. which are very and very big.

So is it possible to move "zenity" in "DEBIAN/control" file from
"Depends" to "Recommends" ?

For most developers, long-time regardless of Metacity makes metacity
dependencies too unreasonable...

[Bug 1535129] Re: gnome-control-center says that I am running 16.04 when in fact I am running 15.10

2016-01-17 Thread Tim
This is just consmetic, since the gnome-control-center package on the
PPA is a direct backport from Xenial. The actual value is hardcoded at
build time, and doesnt actually represent your system.

`lsb-release -a` is the proper way to check your distro version

[Bug 1411174] Re: "open in terminal" does not honour SSH_AUTH_SOCK and GPG_AGENT_INFO environment variables in Ubuntu 14.10

@Simon:

I proposed a workaround (ugly) in http://askubuntu.com/questions/606451
/nautilus-open-in-terminal-extension-will-not-propagate-ssh-auto-sock

A upstream report would be nice; I suspect it could be related to the fact that
"run in terminal" is hard coded in gnome (see
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=627943 ) or not.

[Bug 1208993] Re: Ubuntu slows down and hangs while copying file from/to USB

2016-01-17 Thread Fran
More feedback about the problem I'm experiencing.

First some data about my system:

Kernel 3.16.0-57-generic
Ubuntu Desktop 14.4 LTS
32 bits
2GB RAM
Centrino duo

I complete my previous comment. I was performing two I/O operations
before I got the problem. I couldn't repeat the problem with the first
one (that I described in comment #14), but It's always repeatable with
the second one. That is:

1. Connect two USB disks to my computer to make a copy from the first one (say
disk A) to the second (say disk B). The amount of data to copy is 80GB.
2. Start the copy from USB disk A to B. After 75% copying, the copy seems to be
stopped.

The progress bar in "copy files window" doesn't move. You can close the
window by pressing "x" with the mouse pointer. You can try to shutdown
the system by pressing the "Shut down..." menu option, but it doesn't
respond and system keeps online. Launcher bar doesn't repond.

I have by default the next values for dirty_background_ratio and
dirty_ratio:

vm.dirty_background_ratio = 5
vm.dirty_ratio = 10

It seems to be that, during the huge copy from disk A to B, memory has
reached the 10% of dirty pages indicated by vm.dirty_ratio. After that
all I/O operations became synchronous and block the system until dirty
pages a written to disk. It's just a supposition. Pending to chek it by
increasing vm.dirty_ratio (so I allow the system to performance more
asynchronous writes before they block the system) and repeating the
copy.

[Bug 1411174] Re: "open in terminal" does not honour SSH_AUTH_SOCK and GPG_AGENT_INFO environment variables in Ubuntu 14.10

2016-01-17 Thread Simon John
Does anyone know if the Gnome devs are even looking into this? Its still
present in 3.18.2-1 on Debian

I wonder if it would be better filed upstream with Gnome as the
Debian/Ubuntu maintainers seem to just package, not patch/fix Gnome.
Anyone seen this on non-Debian-based distro's?

[Bug 1238410] Re: Inconsistent cursor visibility with cursor plugin enabled

2016-01-17 Thread mo
hey there, *new here* - I had the same problem with Xubuntu 14.04.3
32bit (with external screen) - it appears I discovered a work around(?)
for the issue, see attachments please - also I testet deactivating this
plugin: with

gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.cursor active false
did NOT work for me after reboot,

but I kept the "false" setting and made the following changes that seem
to work (attachment), also I am not sure which of these 3 steps made the
issue disappear.

** Attachment added: "work around(?) for xubuntu 14.04.3 invisible mouse
pointer cursor"
