I tested on Ubuntu GNOME 16.04.1 with a .png. After I installed eog
3.18.2-1ubuntu2, eog correctly automatically refreshes the image when I
overwrote the image with gimp. It didn't refresh the image automatically
with the previous version of eog.

For me, the behaviour is completely the opposite of those reported by
others:

Apps with Compose key working:
- Gnome Terminal, Dash search field

Apps with Compose key ineffective
- Gedit, LibreOffice, Chrome, Firefox

But when creating a new user and copying my .XCompose to him, for that
user the Compose key works in all applications.

[Bug 11958] Re: Unable to show hidden files

I found a workaround for .thunderbird.  I put a character before the
dot, copied it into the home directory, then renamed it after the
transfer had completed the copy.  No problem, as Thunderbird had never
been fired up, so I didin't need to rename/delete an existing directory.
Now I have to find a way of getting my many Libreoffice templates into a
low level subdirectory of .profile.  Near impossible to make a
workaround.  I'm going to look around for a new file manager that works
properly.  Maybe Canonical should do likewise if you guys don't get this
issue fixed  Do the maintainers not posses a brain?

[Bug 1615389] [NEW] Searching for files and folders in AO takes much longer than previously

Public bug reported:

I have noticed that after upgrading from Ubuntu GNOME 15.10 to 16.04
with GNOME 3.20 that searching for files and folders in the Activities
Overview takes much much longer when previously (before upgrading) it
would find them almost instantly as it currently does with applications.

In the preferences for Tracker I have it set up so that it is meant to
index content. What is interesting though is that for instance it might
take 5 minutes to find my Artwork folder in my Documents directory
through the AO. But if I run 'locate Artwork' in Terminal it finds it
almost instantly.

So that makes me think that perhaps it is an issue with it not properly
indexing the content or not being able to retrieve the information or
something and being forced to do a real-time search.

But it is becoming rather annoying so I thought I would report it so
that we can try to figure out what the issue is and hopefully find a
solution.

Yes, but this issue still affects me on my systems running Ubuntu GNOME
16.04 with GNOME 3.18, it is only on my 3.20 ones that the issue appears
to have gone away.

I can confirm the problem for btrfs subvolumes.

This problem is not limited to btrfs subvolumes.  The same bug also
affects at least ZFS mount points: bug 1390828, samba network mounts:

comment 13 and tmpfs mounts same bug comment 8.

Increasing importance from low to medium as the root problem ends up

I'm sorry to see this problem linger for so long.  But halting nautilus
wouldn't have done anything for you as it stems from an inconsistency
between gvfs and glib as very well explained in bug 1442649 comment 4.
This isn't really a bug in nautilus, just one that manifests itself in
it.  Halting the release of software without understanding what is going
on is just unproductive and unhelpful actionism.

Following a set of updates (attached) Saturday 20th I lost a working
desktop. Further to that recent dailies for Xubuntu and Mate both fail
to start a working desktop either by:

1 - booting Try option from the first menu
2 - booting Try option from the Try/Install dialogue
3 - logging into installed system

Changing the Exec line in /usr/share/xsessions/xubuntu.desktop from

Exec=/usr/share/xfce4/scripts/run-systemd-session xubuntu-session.target

to

Exec=startxfce4 and my normal desktop runs again.

Never mind, the bug is referenced in lubuntu-meta, I will try to get
some attention on it via forums, etc. This is pretty nasty for anyone
who wants to use GStreamer apps in Lubuntu.
