No menubar appears either within the program window or on the global
menu when ran with super-user permissions via gksu/sudo. Bug is not
present when ran as a normal user. Bug is also not present when logging
in to the desktop session as 'root' (NOT recommended).

Similar to the bug reported in

affects gedit when used with sudo/gksu.

It’s been nearly a decade now and this is still an issue… Micro$oft engineers 
must be making jokes about this. Editing a 5MB text file should not be a 
problem.
Seriously though, my intuition is that it can be narrowed down to the system 
displaying Unicode characters as their double byte code in one character space. 
Maybe, the approach should be to use one single generic “U” in a small 
rectangle as the only graphical representation of unknown characters. I doubt 
it is of vital importance to display the exact Unicode value of special 
characters. Users who need this kind of information probably use specialize 
tools already.
As for me, I gave up. Now I use Bless Hex Editor when it comes to text files 
containing blobs and such.

As an example I attached a mysqldump file containing a single row insert
with about 3MB blob data. Such a file is impossible to edit using gedit
3.18.3 in Ubuntu 16.04 with a 6 core CPU, 12GB RAM and a SSD drive.
gedit just hogs an entire core and slowly eats up RAM (250MB after 5
minutes of processing and it keeps on rising).

I've just noticed that I have essentially the same problem after making
a new bug report at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libimobiledevice/+bug/1654833
which I've now marked as duplicate.

This bug affects both iOS 9.3.5 (iPad) and iOS 10.2 (iPhone) since
upgrading to Ubuntu 16.10 (64-bit) probably including a new version of
this libimobiledevice package (libimobiledevice6 version 1.2.0+dfsg-
3ubuntu1)

Attempting to implement the workaround suggested here I've got stuck at the 
very first step:
The command "./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr/local/libimobiledevice" displayed this 
error message:

configure: error: Package requirements (libusbmuxd >= 1.0.9) were not met:
No package 'libusbmuxd' found
Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you installed 
software in a non-standard prefix.
Alternatively, you may set the environment variables libusbmuxd_CFLAGS and 
libusbmuxd_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.

I have the files "/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libusbmuxd.so.4" (a symlink) and 
"/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libusbmuxd.so.4.0.0" but I don't know how to make 
them accessible by this script.
I also have the file "/usr/lib/pkg-config.multiarch" which includes 
"x86_64-linux-gnu" so I guess pkg-config should know where to look for :-(

[Bug 1654834] [NEW] gnome-terminal launches new windows rather than focusing on already open ones under Wayland

For some strange reason after switching from Xorg to Wayland under
Ubuntu GNOME 16.10 with GNOME 3.22, when I click on the docked gnome-
terminal icon in the dock I find that if a Terminal window is already
open, or even multiple already, instead of just going to one of the
existing ones as one would expect it to do, it opens a new Terminal
window and acts as if none were open already. If one is to carry on
clicking it it will open many many more Terminal windows, it may then
randomly stop this strange behaviour and just focus on one of the
already open ones. Though when it decides to go back to normal appears
to be completely random. I have not found this issue with any other of
my applications, just gnome-terminal.

[Bug 1654833] [NEW] iPhone/iPad contents are inaccessible

3) What is expected: When an idevice (iPhone, iPad, etc.) is connected
via a USB port, first a "Trust / Don't Trust" prompt appears on the
idevice, and after selecting "Trust", either a prompt appears on the
computer asking the user what to do and/or a nautilus window opens to
show accessible contents of the device, e.g. photos and/or videos taken
by its camera.

4) What happens: It looks as if everything is in order, but the nautilus
window opened is empty! In other words, system cannot access the device
properly and show the contents of the appropriate folder.


After upgrading from Ubuntu 16.04 to Ubuntu 16.10 (personally had to do a fresh 
install after persistent system upgrade problems), it's no longer possible to 
transfer photos from iPhone or iPad.

The Tust prompt appears with audio echoed, probably as a result of
"double (or even triple) connection":

1 - It seems the idevice begins charging successfully as everything
looks OK in the power indicator.

2- Nautilus seems fully aware of the idevice displaying everything as
normal, even opening a folder window seen normally, but it just cannot
show the actual location including the photos.

3- I think somehow the idevice is also detected as an ethernet thing.

I tried a recommended solution using ifuse, which required these
packages: ideviceinstaller python-imobiledevice libimobiledevice-utils
libimobiledevice6 libplist3 python-plist ifuse

I properly implemented the required configuration, but the ifuse command
merely resulted in this error message:

GnuTLS error: Error in the pull function.
Failed to connect to lockdownd service on the device.
Try again. If it still fails try rebooting your device.

So I thought probably the new libimobiledevice package went back to an
earlier state on this where Apple's "Trust / Don't Trust" prompt cannot
be handled properly.

Mic mute hotkey (Fn+F4)on Dell Latitude 7370 does not work. It generates
