[Bug 1665140] [NEW] Emoji that should be wide, according to Unicode 9, display incorrectly in the terminal

2017-02-15 Thread Rob Speer
Public bug reported:

When editing Unicode in the terminal, it is important for the terminal
and applications to agree on the width of characters. Otherwise, display
glitches will occur.

In prior versions of Unicode, the character width of emoji was
"ambiguous". As of Unicode 9, they are supposed to be double-wide and
take up two character cells. gnome-terminal displays them as
overlapping, single-wide characters, like it has for a long time. This
is a problem because many applications I use on Ubuntu now treat emoji
as double-wide. The behavior of gnome-terminal conflicts with the cursor
positioning in vim, for example.

I've long considered gnome-terminal to have the least buggy Unicode
implementation among terminal applications, and this may no longer be
the case.

The *desired behavior* of emoji is that they are double-wide: they take
up two character cells, advance the cursor by two cells when displayed,
and text-editing applications move the cursor by two cells when moving
past them. The *actual behavior* is inconsistent: typically, the emoji
advance the cursor only by one character cell, even though the text-
editing cursor moves by two character cells when moving past them,
causing the cursor to be misaligned with the text.

I hope this bug reporting interface lets me attach screenshots so I can
show the example with vim.

[Bug 1665144] [NEW] nautilus reports that an NTFS drive is read-only while it is writeable

2017-02-15 Thread Victor Deng
Public bug reported:

By default, Nautilus seems to mount an NTFS partition read-only when a
Windows system that has Fast Boot enabled accesses the partition, is
shut down and I boot back into Ubuntu. However, when I umount the
partition, run ntfsfix on it, and mount it again, Nautilus does not let
me move, paste or create folders and files, but surprisingly allows me
to delete anything. Such behavior is quite strange.

More formally:
Steps to reproduce the bug:
- Boot Windows and shut it down with Fast Boot enabled (so the NTFS partitions
will be in an unsafe state)
- Boot into Ubuntu
- Open an NTFS partition with Nautilus (not the one that contains Windows). As
expected the partition is mounted read-only and menus don't allow the user to
modify anything (items disabled).
- Unmount the partition (I used the umount command from a terminal)
- Run "sudo ntfsfix /dev/sdXX"
- Reopen the NTFS partition

What was expected:
I should be able to create, move or delete files with Nautilus.

What happened:
The menu items used to create, move or delete files are enabled but when I
actually try to create files or folders, or move any to the NTFS partition,
Nautilus complains about the destination being read-only. Deleting files or
moving them away from the partition works flawlessly. I can also modify
everything with other tools, like a text editor or terminal commands.
Restarting Nautilus (i.e. running "nautilus -q" then "nautilus") solves the
problem.

** Description changed:

  1- I uploaded a snap on myapps.developer.ubuntu.com
2- I choose Category: Games (note that I cannot choose a sub-category (Kids))
3- Default type: ? (I choose application, but not sure what it does exactly)
4- Opening Ubuntu Software on Ubuntu 16.04 I can find and install it when
using the search bar
5- BUT my application is not listed in any categories, not even in Games - All
6- After installing the application, I can see it listed in Games - Kids
(because the .desktop file have this entry Categories=Game;KidsGame?)

- Looks like only .deb are listed in the Ubuntu Software?

[Bug 1665126] [NEW] snap not listed in categories

2017-02-15 Thread Dev
Public bug reported:

1- I uploaded a snap on myapps.developer.ubuntu.com
2- I choose Category: Games (note that I cannot choose a sub-category (Kids))
3- Default type: ? (I choose application, but not sure what it does exactly)
4- Opening Ubuntu Software on Ubuntu 16.04 I can find and install it when using
the search bar
5- BUT my application is not listed in any categories, not even in Games - All
6- After installing the application, I can see it listed in Games - Kids
(because the .desktop file have this entry Categories=Game;KidsGame?)

Looks like only .deb are listed in the Ubuntu Software?
