[Bug 1692398] [NEW] Input error can lead to continuous searches

2017-05-21 Thread Robert Ancell
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
An input error (e.g. a key being continuously pressed) in the gnome-software
search field can lead to continuous searches being sent via snapd. This is
beuause there is no limit in this search field.

[Test Case]
1. Open GNOME Software
2. Click search button
3. Continuously press and release 't'

Expected result:
Searches stop after a reasonable time.

Observed result:
Searches are continuously generated for each key press.

[Regression potential]
Low. The field is now limited to 100 characters and searches stop after this
limit.

[Bug 1692353] [NEW] systemd-fsckd : useless CR displayed on console

2017-05-21 Thread Laurent
Public bug reported:

Hello,

My system is "Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS" (grep DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION /etc/lsb-
release).

The systemd package is installed:
  $ dpkg -l | grep systemd
  > systemd 229-4ubuntu17

I noticed that approximately 15 seconds after the boot, a useless
Carriage Return ('\r') is displayed on the console (/dev/console).
This character interacts with the display of the user currently logued in
on the console. This screws the current line, when users is pressing keys.

After monitoring system activity, I found the culprit:
  /lib/systemd/system/systemd-fsckd.service

To test, run:
  service systemd-fsckd stop# In case, it is still running.
  service systemd-fsckd start
Go to the console, wait for approximately 15 seconds, and you see the cursor
jumping from its current position to the beginning of the line. This is the BUG.
Note: the console is not the X11 terminal (xterm, lxterminal, etc.) ; the
console is the text tty reached with Control-Alt-F1.

The systemd-fsckd.service starts the following daemon:
  /lib/systemd/systemd-fsckd
This is the daemon which displays two useless '\r' characters.

I went to:
  http://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/systemd

I downloaded:

http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/s/systemd/systemd_229-4ubuntu10.debian.tar.xz

The file debian/patches/fsckd-daemon-for-inter-fsckd-communication.patch
contains:
+static int manager_write_console(Manager *m, const char *message) {
[...]
+if (message) {
+fprintf(console, "\r%s\r%n", message, );
+if (m->clear  < (size_t)l)
+m->clear = (size_t)l;
+} else {
+fputc('\r', console);
+for (j = 0; j < m->clear; j++)
+fputc(' ', console);
+fputc('\r', console);
+}

So, when no message was previously displayed, "m->clear" is still set to
0.

Then, when the program ends it calls:
+/* clear last line */
+manager_write_console(m, NULL);

However, in the "else" above, two '\r' characters are displayed, surrounding
no space characters.

So, when no message was previously displayed, there is nothing to clear, so
no '\r' character to display.

A trivial patch is attached. It is untested.

[Bug 1691357] Re: User switch not possible, login screen black

2017-05-21 Thread Johon Doee
Hm, strange.

I use the standard intel graphics drivers that come with ubuntu. I did
not install anything else.

Maybe it's a problem of the users I have created?

I created 3 other users (see below with their respective UID).

ubuntu:1000
user1:1001
user2:999
user3:1002

Only ubuntu and user3 have passwords set. user1 and user2 do not appear
in the login screen (I removed both from login screen).

Anyways - could that be the problem? But if so - why did this does not
make problems with the former gdm3-version?

[Bug 1445100] Re: gnome-shell keep crashing these last days

2017-05-21 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Also, for crash bugs, we need data from the crash itself.

Ubuntu GNOME 14.04 LTS has reached end of life after 3 years of support and
gnome-shell is no longer supported in 14.04 LTS.
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-gnome/2017-March/004211.html

Thanks!

[Bug 1445100] Re: gnome-shell keep crashing these last days

2017-05-21 Thread Luc Pi
No. Really.
You close this report because it's 2 year old and the package has been updated
multiple times since, and nobody cares (anymore). I'm sorry that I took time to
report this issue. In the future, I won't anymore.

[Bug 1685870] Re: [MIR] gnome-shell

2017-05-21 Thread Tim
The interactive tests could be useful if autopilot ever grows clutter
support, that is something I have never got around to working on though.
So for the time being the unit tests are the important ones.
