This change also uploaded for the 3.20.5 xenial SRU (which has not
reached any users yet).

** Description changed:

- The Ubuntu Error Tracker has been receiving reports about a problem regarding
gnome-software. This problem was most recently seen with package version
3.22.7-0ubuntu3.17.04.5, the problem page at
https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/bc8baf24512d0c46f341376c9134e4f04ec284d0
contains more details, including versions of packages affected, stacktrace or
traceback, and individual crash reports.
- If you do not have access to the Ubuntu Error Tracker you can request it at
http://forms.canonical.com/reports/.
+ [Impact]
+ The new icon cache code has a bug where it doesn't correctly handle errors
loading from the cache. This was picked up in the error tracker [1].

Per comment #14, these probably aren't the same problems. The issue in
Chrome is not black text on a black background, its corruption of the
actual content when switching between tooltips of different line
lengths. Even if this is the same bug as the Firefox issue, its already
been reported in the underlying Mesa graphics library at

[Bug 1675633] Re: gnome-software crashed with SIGSEGV in as_format_get_kind()

2017-07-11 Thread Robert Ancell
The crash seems to be due to the package list being reloaded outside of
GNOME Software. An inconsistency inside AppStream has a package with a
NULL value for format, and the crash occurs accessing that.

** Changed in: appstream-glib (Ubuntu)
Assignee: (unassigned) => Robert Ancell (robert-ancell)

** Description changed:

- I used the software & updates tool to select the fastest server for me
- to download from, opened Gnoem Terminal, started Aptitude with -uvV and
- on the background while updating I got the gnome-software crashed error.
+ [Impact]
+ errors.ubuntu.com [1] is showing a high crash rate in GNOME Software. This
appears to be due to apt updates occuring outside of GNOME Software and
triggering access of a NULL pointer inside appstream-glib. Upstream fixed this
crash by correctly handling the NULL pointer in appstream-glib 0.7.0. I have
not been able to locally reproduce the issue.

[Bug 1181666] Re: gnome-shell randomly blocks mouse clicks from working in app windows

2017-07-11 Thread Paul
Interesting. This bug seems to be a focus issue, so your similar
symptoms might have been directly caused by that Logitech hardware bug.
I am still affected despite an Intel GPU (untainted kernel) and wired
mouse, but may follow your lead next time and try unloading and
reloading the HID modules to see if that clears whatever is stuck in
gnome-shell.

[Bug 1181666] Re: gnome-shell randomly blocks mouse clicks from working in app windows

2017-07-11 Thread serine
my problem soon reappeared... but I managed to solve it.

I use a logitech mx wireless mouse, and found some post saying that
windows can mess something up with the receiver. It seems to be related
to smooth scrolling, I noticed just before the problem started that my
scrolling was way faster then usual. Tried making changes via gnome
shell to mouse settings but it didn't do anything. Then I installed
"solaar" and through solaar-cli tried to reset, or at least view, what
the settings were, but to no avail. It couldn't access any settings,
however it did show my devices properly (K270 and MX mouse).

I managed to reset the scrolling issue by flipping the power on the
mouse itself. Scrolling went back to normal and the problem is gone for
now. Hopefully it stays that way.

It's amazing how many things can break for almost no reason...

[Bug 1703690] [NEW] Add support for Budgie Desktop using GNOME Screensaver

2017-07-11 Thread fossfreedom
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Budgie and Budgie Desktop uses GNOME Screensaver for its lock-
screen.

It also uses gnome-control-center to control both the desktop background
and the lock-screen background.

GNOME Screensaver does not support gnome-control-center lock screen
dialog - GNOME has changed to a gsettings path
org.gnome.desktop.screensaver. GNOME Screensaver is expecting the path
org.gnome.desktop.background.

To resolve this requires patches in two packages - gnome-screensaver and
gnome-desktop3.

1. GNOME Screensaver has been patched to support Budgie Desktop and
gnome-control-center.
Note - I've taken the opportunity to reuse the existing "Unity" patchwork which
is now defunct (I believe) since Unity uses an alternative locking mechanism.
The lock-screen is styled as per the old "Unity" implementation before Unity
16.04 moved to the new lock screen.

2. The consequence of making the requisite changes to GNOME Screensaver
has unfortunately impacted gnome-desktop3. gnome-desktop3 has a Ubuntu
specific patch to revert a GNOME upstream decision to remove a key
called draw-background. GNOME Screensaver calls a public function in
gnome-desktop3 - the gsettings path causes a segmentation fault since
draw-background does not exist in org.gnome.desktop.screensaver. I have
worked around this to check the path being called before pulling the
draw-background key.

All of this is explained in the dep3 headers of the two debdiff patches
attached

same here. 17.04 just got hit by this.
clean install ubuntu 17.04, nvidia gtx-1060 with proprietary driver.
I was hibernating my PC for about 3 weeks now, suddenly my mouse started to act
weird. some clicks worked, some didn't I had problems with moving windows.

the keyboard was working fine apart from the windows key, bringing up
activities, it seemed stuck, but occasionally became unstuck, very
weird.

managed to logout/login and problem disappered.

[Bug 1703662] [NEW] [MIR] rhythmbox-plugin-alternative-toolbar

2017-07-11 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Public bug reported:

[Availability]

The package is a python plugin and of type arch all, it's building fine in
artful
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox-plugin-alternative-toolbar/0.17.3-1

[Rationale]

The plugin improves the look of rhythmbox and the desktop team believes
it would be a welcome change to the default experience.

[Security]

The plugin only change UI layouts and has no known security report.

[Quality assurance]

The package is in sync with Debian and has no open bugs on the Debian
BTS nor on launchpad. Upstream seems active though activity is rather
low (but there are no open bugs or request so not a lot is needed)

[Dependencies]

The dependency are minimal and already in main

[Standards compliance]

The packaging is classic dh and using the current standards.

[Maintenance]

The package is well maintained upstream and in Debian, the Ubuntu
Desktop team is going to keep an eye on it in Ubuntu though (desktop-
bugs is subscribed)

[Bug 1703640] Re: nplan and libnss-resolve should be in same dependency

2017-07-11 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
I don't think it is; you should be able to use things just as well with
/etc/resolv.conf, and having systemd-networkd (or systemd-resolved)
update it, depending on whether this is automatic via DHCP or for a
static IP.

Regardless, in general I tend to agree libnss-resolve probably should be
included at the same level as nplan; this will need some more testing.

In any case, not a bug in nplan, possibly a bug for libnss-resolve
(systemd); so reassigning.

[Bug 1703640] [NEW] nplan and libnss-resolve should be in same dependency

2017-07-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I am filing this under nplan because I don't know what better anchor to
use. I discovered for systems which I bring up by using debootstrap and
then extend that installation to be bootable, I end up with nplan
installed but not libnss-resolve. This results in broken DNS resolution
when starting to use nplan.

It looks like nplan is a dependency of ubuntu-minimal but libnss-resolve
is only in ubuntu-standard. But it is also required when using networkd
as renderer for netplan.

[Bug 934291] Re: Deleting or stopping print jobs does not work

2017-07-11 Thread shemgp
Now, yes. I thought it was working but I was using a gnome-shell
extension that used the command 'cancel' to cancel a job and not cups-
pk-helper. Anyway, still digging into it. Sorry for the non-working
patch.

[Bug 934291] Re: Deleting or stopping print jobs does not work

2017-07-11 Thread Till Kamppeter
OdyX, WDYT about applying the patch of comment #24 to the Debian/Ubuntu
package of CUPS? It adds root to CUPS' system group and this way cups-
pk-helper (runs as root) can authenticate queue and job manipulations
from GUIs.

If there are any objections from the Debian side, what about letting
only Ubuntu builds include root in the system group?

[Bug 934291] Re: Deleting or stopping print jobs does not work

2017-07-11 Thread Till Kamppeter
shemgp, did you test this patch?

There is no user "lpadmin". With "run as lpadmin" I mean run as a user
which is in the lpadmin group.

So the better solution would be to build CUPS with root in the system
group or let root be member of the lpadmin group.
