CASE 1: Left Arrow
1. Open Nautilus
2. Navigate to the root directory (press CTRL-L, type "/" and press enter).
3. Notice the left arrow is shown, it appears inactive, and nothing happens
when you click on it.

CASE 2: Right Arrow
1. Open Nautilus
2. Navigate to your home directory (click "Home" in the left panel).
3. Notice the right arrow is shown, it appears inactive, and nothing happens
when you click on it.
4. Click on a directory, for example "Documents"
5. Nautilus shows the contents of the new directory, and appends the directory
name to the breadcrumbs.
6. Click on "Home" in the breadcrumbs.
7. Notice the right arrow is shown, it appears inactive, and nothing happens
when you click on it.
Clicking the right arrow does not take you to the next directory in the
breadcrumbs.

SUGGESTED BEHAVIOR:
Clicking on the left arrow should take the user to the previous directory in
the breadcrumbs (the directory path).
Clicking on the right arrow should take the user to the next directory in the
breadcrumbs.

ALTERNATIVE SOLUTION:
Remove the arrows, since they do not provide any functionality and are
misleading to the user.

[Bug 1723644] [NEW] NetworkManager hang

2017-10-14 Thread Mihai Bojescu
Public bug reported:

Recently I had issues with NetworkManager. When I try to restart or close
NetworkManager, the process hangs. First it sends a SIGTERM to the
NetworkManager process, and after a while it sends SIGKILL, yet nothing
happens. After the attempt to restart/close NetworkManager, the OS behaves
badly:
- journalctl doesn't work, doesn't output anything, SIGTERMing/SIGABRTing/
SIGKILLing it causes the kill command to hang (no matter how many times I try
it), it also hangs the terminal
- 'sudo dmesg' hangs (killing it with SIGKILL/SIGTERM/SIGABRT hangs the kill
command, can't close the terminal)
- the OS won't reboot/suspend/shutdown (it does only after holding the restart
button)

Suspending/rebooting normally/shutdowning normally the laptop hangs the OS
(because of NetworkManager).

What I've tried:
- reinstalling NetworkManager (using --purge)
- deleting ~/.config
- deleting ~/.cache
- installing a version from NetworkManager from Debian (version: 1.8.4.2),
reinstalling NetworkManager from Ubuntu back

[Bug 1723577] Re: Artfull won't start with wayland activated

2017-10-14 Thread Yvon TANGUY
Hi

I have the same problem, or at least the same consequences.

Maybe related to #1723602 ?

I no longer have an Radeon HD 6850 (since 2 weeks ^^), but an RX 560.

I tried weston a little bit to know if it was a wayland problem, but
weston works fine. I can launch some GTK apps on weston (gedit, nautilus
...), Firefox & Libreoffice don't run, even with xwayland.so module
activated.

It's just that gnome-shell (or gdm) don't display anything. The screen
stay at is at the moment it launched.

[Bug 1720649] Re: broken gnome expirience caused by unity-compatible patch

2017-10-14 Thread Johnny M3
It doesn't matter witch session I use. This bug concerns UBUNTU DEFAULT
SESSION. I dont know, why you cannot understand this. I even provide
info about patch, which should be disabled to fix this.

Once again:
1. Start ubuntu.
2. Install gnome-tweak-tool.
3. Disable "Application Menu" in "Top Bar".
4. NOTICE, THAT IS STILL UBUNTU DEFAULT SESSION
5. Start Rhythmbox. See the menubar. See the settings gear icon. All menubar
options accessible through gear icon. Menubar should go away.

One thing I'm not sure about - if ubuntu comes with enabled alternative-
toolbar plugin by default (if it is - its a mistake, because position
slider buggy in this plugin) - you should disable it.

If you still has problems with understanding this bug, pleas, contact
Daniel van Vugt (vanvugt), he understood whats wrong in similar bug
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/totem/+bug/1720654).

[Bug 1722286] Re: Same action is forced for lid-close on AC and lid-close on battery

2017-10-14 Thread Kim Nguyễn
I'm attaching a proof of concept python script that restores the
behaviour (in case it's useful to others).

The script should be launched as:
systemd-inhibit --who=me --why=because --mode=block --what=handle-lid-switch

from the session startup (gnome-session-properties)

This is public domain and only lightly tested. It relies on existing

[Bug 1717170] Re: gnome-shell crashes with SIGABRT: mutter:ERROR:backends/meta-monitor-manager.c:2274:meta_monitor_manager_get_logical_monitor_from_number: assertion failed: ((unsigned int) number < g

2017-10-14 Thread Rachel Greenham
I had one crash after applying this yesterday (and rebooting): it
crashed right out to the console, not even to the login screen, and when
I tried logging in again the session failed to start. But since a second
reboot it's apparently been fine. This bug went away, and so too has my
bug #1720149 (so far anyway, I don't seem able to reproduce it now,
although saying so will doubtless trigger it next time I let the
displays sleep). I can't explain that first crash, but as I also can't
repeat it, I guess we ignore it for now.

This in Gnome in Xorg under nVidia 387, modeset=0. xorg sessions seem
unable to start with modeset=1 btw.

[Bug 1723589] [NEW] Incorrect battery charge and discharge times on Thinkpad 410

2017-10-14 Thread BitBurners.com
Public bug reported:

The battery charge/discharge times are way off using Ubuntu 17.10. My
battery is old, but it should still be good for about 60 minutes of
usage. However using Ubuntu 17.10 the charge and discharge times are
erratic and I basically get minutes of battery life.

I have experienced similar with Fedora 25, but works fine on most other
distribution, such as Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 17.10
Package: gnome-power-manager 3.25.90-1

[Bug 1720624] Re: Ubuntu 17.10 blank CD or audio CD not detected

2017-10-14 Thread corrado venturini
I installed the fix:
corrado@corrado-p7-1011:~$ apt policy udisks2
udisks2:
  Installed: 2.6.5-2ubuntu2
  Candidate: 2.6.5-2ubuntu2
  Version table:
 *** 2.6.5-2ubuntu2 500
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu artful/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
corrado@corrado-p7-1011:~$
but while in Ubuntu 16.04
when I insert a blank CD I see a box with a message 'You have just inserted a
blank CD. Choose what application ...' and another box with 'Unable to mount
blank CD-R disk' ...
when I insert an audio CD I see a box with a message 'You have just inserted a
Audio CD. Choose what application ...'
now after installing maintenance and restarted the system I see the inserted CD
in Files and on Desktop, but I have no message also I have 'Ask what to do' in
Settings-Devices-Removable Media.
