Juerg, also, if you have a core file handy (or a full /var/crash/

[Bug 1714989] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance_cast() from st_label_set_text() (dash-to-panel specific?)

2017-10-19 Thread Treviño
Indeed these bugs might be triggered by one extension, more than vanilla
experience, but they still underline issues in the code, so it's still a
bug we've to fix.

As I said, if you happen to catch this wile running gnome-shell in gdb,
please run `call gjs_dumpstack()` from the gdb shell in order to get
logs in your journal.

Related to this, thanks Juerg.
I've a point now, at least. While the statement above is still valid for people
getting this and running g-s without dash-to-panel extension.

[Bug 1723554] Re: Highlight border flickers in Overview when you hover mouse away from & over window

2017-10-19 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Confirmed. Although in 17.10 the default theme uses an orange border,
not blue.

** Summary changed:

- Blue border flickers in Overview when you hover mouse away from & over window
+ Highlight border flickers in Overview when you hover mouse away from & over
window

** Description changed:

  BEHAVIOR
- When you enter activities overview, and hover your mouse over an open window
(or away from an open window and then back over an open window) the blue border
around the window flickers: it briefly fades, then returns. The blue border
also flickers when you hover over the "X" close button at the top-right of a
window in Overview, and then back to the window.
+ When you enter activities overview, and hover your mouse over an open window

flickers when you hover over the "X" close button at the top-right of a window

[Bug 1725068] Re: /usr/bin/gnome-shell:11:meta_plugin_manager_event_simple:start_simple_effect:meta_window_actor_show:meta_compositor_show_window:meta_window_show

2017-10-19 Thread Treviño
Similar report at https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1452914

Fix can be simple as https://pastebin.com/qjkTU1Rk but root cause is a
bit more tricky to find, maybe anticipating in meta_compositor_manage
compositor->plugin_mgr = meta_plugin_manager_new (compositor);

Or simply supporting the case where's no compositor is around (yet?) and
thus ignoring the effect.

2017-10-19 Thread Chris Hermansen
I reported this separately as 1725030 but it is apparently a duplicate
of this.

I'm a bit surprised at that because this problem never occurred in 17.04
but did so the first time I plugged my phone into 17.10.

Anyway if anyone here needs more info, I'm your person.

[Bug 1725055] [NEW] pptp vpn cannot be easily connected in gnome network manager and gnome control center

2017-10-19 Thread David Gil
Public bug reported:

I tried to reactivate a VPN (for PPTP) several times again and again
using PPTP, and it is just that it just suddenly turns off every time I

I tried to use an OpenVPN plugin for VPN, it works depending on the VPN
server.

I depend on VPN a lot especially on FreeVPN PPTP.

[Bug 1724957] [NEW] gnome-shell crashes → unable to log in after artful upgrade

2017-10-19 Thread Paul Natsuo Kishimoto
Public bug reported:

CONTEXT

I was running 17.04, and had manually installed gdm3, gnome-shell etc.
to use the GNOME Shell. I had also installed some extensions (from both
the respositories and through extensions.gnome.org).

I used "sudo do-release-upgrade" to upgrade from 17.04 to 17.10.

$ lsb_release -rd && apt-cache policy gnome-shell
Description:Ubuntu 17.10
Release:17.10
gnome-shell:
  Installed: 3.26.1-0ubuntu4
  Candidate: 3.26.1-0ubuntu4
  Version table:
 *** 3.26.1-0ubuntu4 500
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu artful/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

After rebooting, I tried to install in with all of the available sessions,
including:
- GNOME
- GNOME Classic
- GNOME on Xorg
- Ubuntu
- Ubuntu on Xorg

Expected: I'm able to log in to the desktop.
Observed: In every case, I would be kicked back to the GDM greeter.

WORKAROUND

Checking the output of `journalctl`, I noticed the following lines:

Oct 19 15:51:17 khaeru-laptop gnome-session-binary[30205]: WARNING: Application
'org.gnome.Shell.desktop' killed by signal 5

In particular, the complaint about the settings schema always appeared
as the last message before the "kernel: traps: gnome-shell" message.

On a hunch, I disabled all extensions:

$ dconf reset /org/gnome/shell/enabled-extensions

After this, I was able to log in.

COMMENT

I understand that my manual installation/use of Gnome Shell prior to the
upgrade might have produced some unusual contents in that dconf key. The
prior value was:

enabled-extensions=['places-menu@gnome-shell-
extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'user-theme@gnome-shell-
extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'remove-dropdown-arr...@mpdeimos.com',
'workspace-indica...@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com',
'suspend-button@laserb', 'pixel-s...@deadalnix.me', 'dash-to-
d...@micxgx.gmail.com']

The bug, IMO, is that this caused gnome-shell to crash that left me
unable to log in to any session. If particular extensions or dconf keys
are erroneous or broken, I would expect them to be disregarded and
perhaps some error message displayed while login continued.

2017-10-19 Thread Sebastien Bacher
The segfault is on this line

gs_app_set_install_date (app, g_date_time_to_unix
(snapd_snap_get_install_date (local_snap)));

the issue seems to be that snapd_snap_get_install_date() returns NULL
but the code is not handling that case
