[Bug 1174162] Re: chrome-browser makes gnome-keyring-daemon use 100% cpu

2017-11-14 Thread Jesse Glick
I see this from time to time, according to no apparent pattern. I will
just suddenly hear my laptop fan come on, and from running `top` will
see `gnome-keyring-daemon` consuming 60–80% CPU, along with some CPU
from `chromium-browser`. The problem seems to go away on its own after a
while.

Disabling keyring integration in Chromium is not a viable workaround for
me; this feature was in fact a “key” reason I switched from Firefox.

Currently running Xubuntu 17.10 with all updates. I have 800+ passwords
in the store acc. to `secret-tool search --all scheme 0 2>&1 | fgrep
label | wc -l`, not synched with a Google account.

[Bug 1732245] [NEW] [wayland] Fullscreen games offset after returning from alt-tab

2017-11-14 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

Impact
==
Using Alt-Tab to leave a fullscreen game and then return breaks the game by
offsetting the display by the size of the GNOME Shell top bar (and the Ubuntu
Dock if running).

Test Case
=
1. Log into the default Ubuntu session. (Make sure that Wayland is running by
running this command. If you have output, you are running Wayland.

env | grep -i wayland

2. Run a game full screen.

I installed Steam and used Team Fortress 2 because it's free (but a very
large download)

3. Press Alt-Tab to switch to another window and then press Alt-Tab to
switch back to the game.

The game should display and function normally.

Workaround
==
Open the Activities Overview and click the game window instead of using Alt-Tab
to switch back to the game.

Other Info
==
This bug is split from LP: #1725649 where the problem was seen and fixed for
the Xorg session. This bug is for the Wayland sessions.

[Bug 1725649] Re: Fullscreen games lose "fullscreen" after an Alt+Tab

  Regression Potential

This is fixed in mutter 3.26.2 (LP: #1730097)

These patches also fix LP: #1725821 but I was having trouble coming up
with a specific test case for that issue that I could reproduce with my
  Intel graphics card.

The upstream bug mentions that this may re-introduce tearing with full-
screen videos with Firefox because Firefox disables hardware graphics
acceleration on Linux. Personally, I feel that is a Firefox bug and
shouldn't block this fix. (The workaround for that is to visit
about:config in Firefox and set layers.acceleration.force-enabled to
  true and restart Firefox.)

The issue of poor performance with full-screen games with GNOME 3.26 (a
regression from GNOME 3.24) is a popular complaint in forums and should
  be fixed by these patches.

  Original Bug Report
  ===
When playing a steam game in "fullscreen" (in this case stellaris) if I
alt-tab out and then back the game is no longer full screen and a portion the
size of the menu bar at the top is reserved, not showing the menu just a
portion of the background colour. Also after this happens all mouse clicks are
offset by that same margin.

[Bug 1725649] Re: Fullscreen games lose "fullscreen" after an Alt+Tab

2017-11-14 Thread Jeremy Bicha
I can verify that mutter 3.26.2-0ubuntu0.1 fixes the bug for the Ubuntu
on Xorg session on Ubuntu 17.10. I opened LP: #1732245 for the similar
unfixed issue with the Ubuntu on Wayland session.

[Bug 1580605] Re: gnome-shell crashes often

2017-11-14 Thread fermulator
I do not know why this was changed to invalid. This is a critical issue
that has clearly introduced a regression set of crashes.

(there MAY be confusing reports from other users for other issues, but I
can confirm the originally submitted report)

This isn't fun, several times per day a crash:

I recently installed Debian 9 with GNOME, it worked perfectly there.
Upgraded to testing, keeped working. I don't know why Ubuntu is broken
here, maybe just check the patch diff to debian. Must be there
somewhere?

Again - how can I help here further?

[Bug 1181666] Re: gnome-shell randomly blocks mouse clicks from working in app windows

2017-11-14 Thread LuisC
I have the same issue in Ubuntu 17.10 (Wayland).

I was using Netbeans, Chrome and a VirtualBox VM running Windows 10. It
seemed that the VirtualBox grabbed the mouse, but it has mouse
integration, and the actions bar and activities were clickable.

I couldn't resolve it by switching to another virtual terminal, neither
by running "gnome-shell -r" on a gnome-terminal (it said: (gnome-
shell:5963): mutter-WARNING **: Can't initialize KMS backend: Could not
get session ID: No such file or directory).

So, I had to close everything and logout and login again. It worked.

I have the same issue. especially when VLC is hung.

I think it happens when a not-responding dialog is showing on some
window.

Yup - I have the same problem. Be nice is Ubuntu would recognize and issue a
patch

[Bug 1715811] Re: GDM crash loop Ubuntu 17.10 (Intel)

2017-11-14 Thread Max Goodman
I ran into this upgrading from 17.04 to 17.10 on an X1 Carbon 3rd Gen
(Intel HD Graphics 5500). Inspired by reading Mentis's comment. This
fixed it for me:

apt purge gdm gdm3
apt install gdm3 ubuntu-desktop (reinstalling ubuntu-desktop which got removed
in the last step)

Then running `systemctl restart gdm` got gdm3 to start successfully. Is
it possible lingering config files from gdm (version 2?) are conflicting
with gdm3 on some upgraded machines?
