[Bug 1505409] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGTRAP in x_io_error() from _XIOError() from _XEventsQueued() from XPending() from gdk_check_xpending() ["Connection to xwayland lost"]

2018-01-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Happy 2018.

Now we've got Xwayland leaving core files when it crashes (fixed in
mutter 3.26.2), we still see very few Xwayland crashes. Too few to
account for most (90%+) of the instances of this bug...

 https://errors.ubuntu.com/?package=xwayland=month
 https://errors.ubuntu.com/?package=gnome-shell=month

So the most likely explanation I can think of now is that Xwayland is
exiting prematurely, in some way that looks like an unexpected crash to
its parent (mutter code in the gnome-shell process). We'll need to look
for possible ways Xwayland might exit prematurely without dumping
core...

In analyzing the thread manually, this most recent one appears to be

[Bug 1739525] Re: gnome-shell segfault at e8 in libgdk-3.so.0

2018-01-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Crash files need to have a new bug report created in order for them to
be auto-analysed correctly, and kept private from the public during that
time.

So I think using '-u' is incorrect. Just run:
  ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_usr_bin_gnome-shell.1000.crash

It will either open a browser window or print a URL for you to copy
follow on any machine. For the former to work, the terminal needs to
have some idea how to get to your graphical desktop (and there should be
one running at the time). So if there is a crash file to upload, try
rebooting and logging in first, then run ubuntu-bug on the file from a
graphical terminal like gnome-terminal.

[Bug 1721428] Re: Artful (17.10) Session logout after screen turned off

2018-01-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Hi all,

There are a number of bugs in gnome-shell that would exhibit symptoms
like this bug describes. So I'm going to ask:

@koalay only: Please run 'apport-collect 1721428' on the affected
machine to help us gather more information.

Everyone: Look in /var/crash for some .crash files. If you find any then please
use the command:
  ubuntu-bug /var/crash/YOURFILE.crash
to create a new bug. And then mention your new bug ID here. Careful not to
attach crash files to existing bugs. Each crash file should create a new bug.

[Bug 1739525] Re: gnome-shell segfault at e8 in libgdk-3.so.0

2018-01-02 Thread fermulator
On the weekend I upgraded to Ubuntu 17.10;
Amazingly, it crashed again :)

This time, apport is working, AND I get goodies in /var/crash.

[Bug 1740963] [NEW] Ubuntu 17.10 - Clicking on Favorite in Nautilus results in Favorite being dragged

2018-01-02 Thread Fadi Racy
Public bug reported:

I'm running Ubuntu 17.10 on X.Org (I will confirm later if this bug
occurs in Wayland). I have a Lenovo X1 Carbon with a touchpad,
trackpoint and touch screen.

I have this on and off bug in Nautilus that occurs at least once a day
(though sometimes it could be upwards of 50% of the time). Using the
touchpad, I click on one of my favorites in Nautilus and even though I
did a very light tap, the favorite goes into drag and drop mode. This is
not related to my touchpad settings or drivers. I've gone as far as
disabling my touchpad's drag and drop function and the bug still occurs
even though I can't drag and drop anything else in the OS. This bug is
not affected by the touchpad driver as it has materialized under both
libinput and synaptics. The bug occurs even when I boot out of an Ubuntu
live usb.

Is there some kind of logs you would like me to put up on pastebin or
some kind of troubleshooting you can recommend?

Same problem on 17.10. Memory consumption of gnome-software seems to be

[Bug 1740921] [NEW] Nautilus renames partitions on external USB HDD

2018-01-02 Thread Glenn Brumfield
Public bug reported:

Nautilus adds the number "1" to the partition names on my external
backup USB HDD (e.g., EXT4 = EXT41, JFS = JFS1, NTFS = NTFS1). This
seems to have occurred since the last set of updates. I speculate that
this may or may not have something to do with the recent 'Backups'
(Deja-Dup) update within the last week, but I don't know how to verify
this. I have verified the correct partition names using GParted from a
Live-DVD of Ubuntu 16.04.3; the correct names do not have the appended
"1" added to the partition name(s) on the external USB drive. Names
appear to be correct for the internal HDD for my PC. I have attached a
screenshot of Nautilus with the affected partitions displayed. I am
using Ubuntu 16.04 with all updates as of this date.

[Bug 1728653] Re: Update evolution-data-server to 3.26.3

2018-01-02 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

+ Note to SRU Team
+
+ I guess we might as well wait for 3.26.4 now, scheduled for January 9.
+
  Impact
  ==
evolution-data-server (e-d-s) has released a new stable bugfix release.
(These will happen about once every month until 3.28 is released.)

Updating e-d-s is required to update evolution to 3.26.3 (LP: #1728655)

  https://git.gnome.org/browse/evolution-data-server/tree/NEWS/?h=gnome-3-26
  https://git.gnome.org/browse/evolution-data-server/log/?h=gnome-3-26

  Test Case
  =
After installing the update, restart your computer.

Run several eds-using apps like Evolution, GNOME Calendar and verify
that they continue to run at least as well as before this update.

  Regression Potential

GNOME 3.26 distros will be shipping this update.

There is a micro-release exception for GNOME:
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#GNOME

3.22.6 introduced a regression in pop3 support that was fixed within a
  week by 3.22.7.

[Bug 1740894] [NEW] KEY_RFKILL is not passed to userspace

2018-01-02 Thread Jeremy Soller
Public bug reported:

There are a couple things going on, that could be fixed by a Debian or
Ubuntu maintainer:

- libxkbdcommon needs to be updated from 0.7.1 to 0.7.2. This introduces
the RFKill key: https://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/wayland-
devel/2017-August/034721.html

- x11-proto needs a new release. This commit added RFKill, but it is not
in a release:
https://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/proto/xproto/commit/?id=98a32d328e7195e12c38baa877917335bceffbaf

- Likely other X11 packages need to be rebuilt.

[Bug 1723857] Re: onscreen keyboard appears whenever i touch touchscreen

2018-01-02 Thread Jens Forker
update to #49
even after installing 18.04 updates on Jan 2nd the following feature persists:
a few times a week the cursor goes nuts - it looks like it's jumping to the
lower left corner (gnome desktop), clicking, and thereby calling the program
tiles onto the screen. Then clicking again making the tiles disappear, clicking
again calling the tiles,. sometimes with quite a high frequency, turning
the laptop pretty much useless when it's "trapped" in this state. Whatever you
try it's always calling the tiles :-(
This happens even if I'm not touching the notebook at all!!
I couldn't find anything to influence this behavior. Even after rebooting it
continues! But at some random point in time the jumping stops and the notebook
can be used as before and works like a charm - until the jumping starts again.

Because I used the fix from @keringar (see above) the on screen keyboard
is not coming any more. But for me it looks that the root cause of the
osk popping up is the cursor jump/click.

[Bug 1733127] Re: Session crashes when monitor is disconnected

2018-01-02 Thread Andrzej Wojtaszewski
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1721428 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1721428

I'm having the same issue on Intel NUC7 (NUC7i3BHN) with Ubuntu 17.10
and Intel i915 proprietary driver.

The NUC is set up as a Kodi HTPC and connected to a Samsung TV. When the
TV is turned off and then turned on the session gets terminated and all
applications are instantly killed.

When the TV is just turned off everything works in the background (eg.
when I'm streaming music using Kore remote instead of TV) but crashes
the moment the TV is turned on. Also random crashes occur with the TV
turned off and long music playback.

This confirms that this bug is driver unrelated as it occurs on Nvidia,
AMD and Intel.

[Bug 1740599] [NEW] Selecting multiple files and dragging them to file manager is broken

2018-01-02 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

This issue is reproducible every time I try.

- Start with two or more files on the desktop
- Drag out a selection area around the files to select them
- Open "Files" file manager
- Drag and drop them to a folder

The drag and drop operation fails and the cursor gets stuck as a hand
icon. Signing out is the only way I have tried to fix the problem.

[Bug 1739931] Re: missing entries on popup menus from dock icons

2018-01-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Those lines aren't blank. They're horizontal separators. Unfortunately
those horizontal separator lines are so faint you can hardly notice
them. Maybe on some monitors they're not visible at all. I can see them
but honestly didn't notice they existed until today!

So I think the colours in our theme for separator lines might need
improving, but that's a minor theme issue.

** Summary changed:

- missing entries on popup menus from dock icons
+ Separator lines in shell popup menus are too faint to see

** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided => Low

[Bug 1739525] Re: gnome-shell segfault at e8 in libgdk-3.so.0

2018-01-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Also, if you install some debug symbols and then try gdb again then you
should get some more useful output than last time. The relevant debug
packages to start with are:

http://launchpadlibrarian.net/314610069/libgtk-3-0-dbg_3.18.9-1ubuntu3.3_amd64.deb

[Bug 1739019] Re: Gnome Shell does not start in Xorg mode

2018-01-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks. It looks like Xorg is running but sounds like gnome-shell is
missing or hung.

Do you find any crash files in /var/crash? If so, please use the
'ubuntu-bug' command to upload them and also add a comment here
mentioning the new bug ID.

Otherwise...

While your screen is black, switch VTs again (Ctrl+Alt+F4 or really
anything from F3 upward) and login. Now does 'ps auxw | grep gnome-
shell' show any gnome-shell process? If so then please force it to dump
a crash file with something like this:

  kill -TRAP

And look in /var/crash again, per above.
