Happy 2018. Now we've got Xwayland leaving core files when it crashes (fixed in mutter 3.26.2), we still see very few Xwayland crashes. Too few to account for most (90%+) of the instances of this bug... https://errors.ubuntu.com/?package=xwayland=month https://errors.ubuntu.com/?package=gnome-shell=month So the most likely explanation I can think of now is that Xwayland is exiting prematurely, in some way that looks like an unexpected crash to its parent (mutter code in the gnome-shell process). [Bug 1739525] Re: gnome-shell segfault at e8 in libgdk-3.so.0
Crash files need to have a new bug report created in order for them to be auto-analysed correctly, and kept private from the public during that time. So I think using '-u' is incorrect. Just run: ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_usr_bin_gnome-shell.1000.crash It will either open a browser window or print a URL for you to copy follow on any machine. For the former to work, the terminal needs to have some idea how to get to your graphical desktop (and there should be one running at the time). So if there is a crash file to upload, try rebooting and logging in first, then run ubuntu-bug on the file from a graphical terminal like gnome-terminal. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1739525 Title: gnome-shell segfault at e8 in libgdk-3.so.0 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1739525/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1740963] [NEW] Ubuntu 17.10 - Clicking on Favorite in Nautilus results in Favorite being dragged
Public bug reported: I'm running Ubuntu 17.10 on X.Org (I will confirm later if this bug occurs in Wayland). I have a Lenovo X1 Carbon with a touchpad, trackpoint and touch screen. I have this on and off bug in Nautilus that occurs at least once a day (though sometimes it could be upwards of 50% of the time). Using the touchpad, I click on one of my favorites in Nautilus and even though I did a very light tap, the favorite goes into drag and drop mode. This is not related to my touchpad settings or drivers. I've gone as far as disabling my touchpad's drag and drop function and the bug still occurs even though I can't drag and drop anything else in the OS. This bug is not affected by the touchpad driver as it has materialized under both libinput and synaptics. The bug occurs even when I boot out of an Ubuntu live usb. Is there some kind of logs you would like me to put up on pastebin or some kind of troubleshooting you can recommend? ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1740963 Title: Ubuntu 17.10 - Clicking on Favorite in Nautilus results in Favorite being dragged To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1740963/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1740921] [NEW] Nautilus renames partitions on external USB HDD
Public bug reported: Nautilus adds the number "1" to the partition names on my external backup USB HDD (e.g., EXT4 = EXT41, JFS = JFS1, NTFS = NTFS1). This seems to have occurred since the last set of updates. I speculate that this may or may not have something to do with the recent 'Backups' (Deja-Dup) update within the last week, but I don't know how to verify this. I have verified the correct partition names using GParted from a Live-DVD of Ubuntu 16.04.3; the correct names do not have the appended "1" added to the partition name(s) on the external USB drive. Names appear to be correct for the internal HDD for my PC. I have attached a screenshot of Nautilus with the affected partitions displayed. I am using Ubuntu 16.04 with all updates as of this date. [Bug 1723857] Re: onscreen keyboard appears whenever i touch touchscreen
update to #49 even after installing 18.04 updates on Jan 2nd the following feature persists: a few times a week the cursor goes nuts - it looks like it's jumping to the lower left corner (gnome desktop), clicking, and thereby calling the program tiles onto the screen. Then clicking again making the tiles disappear, clicking again calling the tiles,. sometimes with quite a high frequency, turning the laptop pretty much useless when it's "trapped" in this state. Whatever you try it's always calling the tiles :-( This happens even if I'm not touching the notebook at all!! I couldn't find anything to influence this behavior. Even after rebooting it continues! But at some random point in time the jumping stops and the notebook can be used as before and works like a charm - until the jumping starts again. Because I used the fix from @keringar (see above) the on screen keyboard is not coming any more. But for me it looks that the root cause of the osk popping up is the cursor jump/click. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1723857 Title: onscreen keyboard appears whenever i touch touchscreen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-shell/+bug/1723857/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1739931] Re: missing entries on popup menus from dock icons
Those lines aren't blank. They're horizontal separators. Unfortunately those horizontal separator lines are so faint you can hardly notice them. Maybe on some monitors they're not visible at all. Thanks. It looks like Xorg is running but sounds like gnome-shell is missing or hung. Do you find any crash files in /var/crash? If so, please use the 'ubuntu-bug' command to upload them and also add a comment here mentioning the new bug ID. Otherwise... While your screen is black, switch VTs again (Ctrl+Alt+F4 or really anything from F3 upward) and login. Now does 'ps auxw | grep gnome- shell' show any gnome-shell process?
