[Bug 1746773] Re: Search for Skype in GNOME Software doesn't list Skype as the first match

2018-02-18 Thread Robert Ancell
This is due to a change in GNOME 3.22 which started ordering search
results by "match value" (essentially a value indicating how well the
result matches the search terms). This is generated by a bitfield of
metadata items that matched the search terms. Snap doesn't provide this,
so the snap results were getting ordered by the fallback sorting field -
the app id.

I've proposed getting rid of the default sorting field, thus keeping the snaps
in the order they were returned from snapd:

I didn't know this alternative, thanks for the info. However, the
extremely low quality of apport strikes here as well (selecting upload
causes the program to return immediately with return code 0 and no
output which is in conjunction with a missing verbosity switch just
inacceptable).

With some luck that will create a new crash file in /var/crash. You can
then upload it to a new bug report using this command:

[Bug 1707898] Re: systemd translations are not synced with upstream

2018-02-18 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
All this has now been fixed upstream. You can disregard the previous
patches I've polluted this bug report with. The attached patch is a
concatenation of the applicable upstream commits. It includes:

* Translations are no longer merged into the .policy files
* 'gettext-domain="systemd"' added to the .policy files
* The ninja() call in debian/rules (so far only in Debian git) now
extracts strings also from the .policy files.

I suppose that this patch should better be committed to Debian.

(And no need any longer from a systemd POV to consider a change of the
policykit-1 packaging.)

** Patch added: "upstream-translation-fixes.patch"

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/policykit-1/+bug/1707898/+attachment/5058025/+files/upstream-translation-fixes.patch

** No longer affects: policykit-1 (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1750030] Re: Report fwupd version in user agent

2018-02-18 Thread Robert Ancell
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+ Some firmware updates fail require a recent version of fwupd to work.
Upstream has requested we update the user agent sent in HTTP requests so that
they can stop sending firmware to clients that may not work.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ Check with the fwupd server that the correct user agent is being sent.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Low. The fix is simply to add to the user-agent string used in HTTP requests.
+
There are some situations that LVFS shouldn't be offering firmware to certain
machines.
Upstream is going to use the user agent for filtering these firmware
offerings and it would be good if gnome-software can report the user agent.

The following has been added to the gnome 3.20 tree:

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-software/commit/9bf4ecef4daa2d31827810d672458768c3c2a2b3

Can this please be backported to xenial?

Bionic can already report this as part of 3.26 gnome-software.

[Bug 1750197] Re: App Drawer Animation Causes Heavy CPU Spikes in Wayland & XOrg

2018-02-18 Thread Luke B.
** Description changed:

- Ubuntu Release: 17.10
+ Ubuntu Release: 17.10 and 18.04
  gnome-shell version: 3.26.2
  System Theme: CommuniTheme Beta

Upon navigating through various areas of the system, GUI animations are
very stuttery. This heavily affects the CPU usage of my device. For
instance, opening the shell app drawer displays a very janky animation,
and my CPU will spike to nearly 85% for each open/close. This happens
regardless of using XOrg or Wayland; however Wayland appears to have an
overall lower impact on resource usage. The CPU in this laptop isn't the
greatest (being a 2014 Celeron), but this is noticeably more sluggish
compared to previous releases like 16.04 and 16.10.

This same issue is still existent, but somewhat less noticeable on my
other i5-6400 (GTX 1050) machine. Also, emulating this release in a VM
with 2 CPUS and 4096MB of RAM renders it unresponsive for 3-5 seconds
  after opening/closing the app drawer.

Please do not hesitate to follow up with requests for more info, as I
  will be happy to help.

There are suggestion that one should add 'nomodeset' to the kernel

would this be the solution for now?

[Bug 1750288] [NEW] Support snap channels

2018-02-18 Thread Robert Ancell
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

[Test Case]
1. Open GNOME Software
2. Select the VLC snap

Observed result:
No channel information is shown.

Expected result:
The snap is shown with four (at the time of writing) channels available -
stable/candidate/beta/edge. You are able to choose a channel at the time of
install and this installs the appropriate version (can be confirmed with 'snap
info vlc' on the command line). Once installed the channel can be changed and
the snap updated (requires clicking install again).

[Regression Potential]
Patch is quite large and could cause new bugs.

[Bug 629258] Re: Battery life estimation never comes around

2018-02-18 Thread Doug Parker
I have it on 16.04 LTS running on a Fujitsu LifeBook T4215. There is an
"estimating" message, and the percentage rises from 50% to 100%, then
cycles in the same range.

The laptop is a dual boot with Windows 10, and Windows is also showing
the same, "estimating and cycling" behavior. I've read in other threads
that it is a potential BIOS update issue. IJS.

Yes,
same goes for totem as well.

Double clicking on video/audio files shows totem loading for a few

If you mean is Wayland installed and an option in GDM? Yes, correct. I'll
try your suggestion and report back. Thanks!

[Bug 1749878] Re: GDM doesn't accept mouse clicks

2018-02-18 Thread Jouni Mettala
But your GDM is still using Wayland, Right?

I had to edit /etc/gdm3/custom.conf and uncomment line:
WaylandEnable=false

After that mouse worked in GDM greeter too.

I managed to reproduce this on another computer by using bionic-proposed main
universe repository.
Maybe this is bug in gnome-session or related package.

[Bug 1734806] [NEW] Reset Ubuntu to Factory Defaults

2018-02-18 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Ubuntu users can really benefit from an easy GUI app built-into Ubuntu
that allows the user to reset the OS to factory defaults and/or wipe the
entire device, similar to the built-in Recovery options Microsoft offers
users in Windows 10.

There's already an app in development that works with Ubuntu called
'Resetter.' Maybe this or something like it can be implemented into the
next release?

2018-02-18 Thread Jouni Mettala
I noticed this bug in Gnome with Wayland. Selected Gnome with Xorg and
mouse buttons work. GDM session selector was affected so I had to change
session with keyboard.
