[Bug 1771943] [NEW] nautilus accessing samba shares doesn't use cached credentials

2018-05-17 Thread piviul
Public bug reported:

I don't know if the bug is in nautilus or other package but accessing samba
shares in a samba domain membership authentication using winbind, nautilus
doesn't try to use cached credentials to access network shares.
Before the upgrade to ubuntu bionic (18.04) all works as expected.

I have configured winbind bind module for samba authentication on a
samba server and all seems works flawless. I have enabled winbind
offline logon (in smb.conf) and cached credentials (in
/etc/security/pam_winbind.conf). Offline logon seems to work but when I
access samba shares, nautilus ask me for a username and password even if
I log on using a valid domain account and this valid account can access
the samba share.

If you need some more info please ask me

Have a great day

Piviul

[Bug 1725807] Re: CPU % sort direction (ascending/descending) indicator reversed

2018-05-17 Thread Robert Roth
@6th: the request was to report this upstream, however I have just
tested it with system monitor 3.28.2 on Fedora, and it works just as it
should: with upside down pyramid the highest cpu% is on top, the lowest

[Bug 1769224] Re: keyboard layout on greeter is not stored per user (function lost from 16.04 to 18.04)

2018-05-17 Thread Bodinux
I would like to add the following information :

at login, there is the helper with the possibility to have a virtual
keyboard.

Fist issue :
This virtual keyboard appears in qwerty regardless of the active layout

Second issue :
When I try to change the layout, the list of layouts is displayed. When I move
my mouse to select the layout I want, the virtual keyboard disappears. So I
can't change the layout of the virtual keyboard.

2018-05-17 Thread Bodinux
Tested this gdm3/3.28.0-0ubuntu1.1 from bionic-proposed.

Bad password entry followed by correct password entry works correctly.

I then tried to switch user, Bad password entry followed by correct password
entry : screen with the grayed password box, nothing happening.
crtl-alt-f1, ctrl-alt-f2, log back to previous session ok
I then tried to switch user, correct password entry : screen with the grayed
password box, nothing happening.
ctrl-alt-f1, ctrl-alt-f2, log back to previous session ok

(this might be another bug …?) but the test as I did failed.

I am marking this as a duplicate of bug 1771788, because any crash in
Xwayland will cause gnome-shell to crash. So we need to treat this as an
Xwayland crash. When that is fixed gnome-shell should also stop
crashing.

[Bug 1771902] [NEW] Can't enter password in lock screen after running "gnome-shell --replace"

2018-05-17 Thread dmiller309
Public bug reported:

Gnome Shell stops accepting mouse input from time to time, and when it
does I run "gnome-shell --replace" to get mouse control back. After
running this command, I can't log in because it's as if the ENTER key is
pressed every half second on the login screen. The lock screen tells me
that I typed in the wrong password and clears the password input. I
can't type my password in half a second.

I can workaround this by bug pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1 which makes the lock
screen's password input form stop clearing its input. This isn't the
ideal workflow though because I have workarounds on workarounds.

Re: [Bug 1672297] Re: gnome-shell uses lots of memory, and grows over time

2018-05-17 Thread Balazs Pere
After some minutes I logged in (Ubuntu 18.04, gnome-shell) something used a lot
of memory (approx. 1GB). I checked gnome-system-monitor, but there was not any
process which used more memory as usual (neither user nor system). Nothing was
opened or launched. Only one thing helped: logout and login again.
I have no idea what was that, and I can not repeat it again.
(gnome shell is extremely laggy :-( )

Re: [Bug 1767817] Re: Full text search does not work

2018-05-17 Thread Balazs Pere
I have three computers, two desktops and one laptop. Two of them has a newly
installed Ubuntu 18.04 and one has an upgraded 18.04 (from 17.10). In one
desktop I installed ubuntu 18.04 in virtualbox. For every operating system I
installed tracker. Full text search in nautilus doesn't work in any of them.
It must be a bug.

[Bug 1771880] [NEW] Seahorse unable to import certificates in Ubuntu 18.04

2018-05-17 Thread Angelo Giacomini Ribas
Public bug reported:

Seahorse 3.20.0-5 / Ubuntu 18.04 LTS / GNOME 3.28.1

When trying to import a certificate into seahorse/gnome-keyring on
Ubuntu 18.04, seahorse GUI application shows the 'import' button greyed
out, while mouse hovering the "import" button shows the message "Cannot
import because there are no compatible importers".

This problem doesn't occur on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Seahorse 3.18.0), as
I've just tested on my wife's laptop, but happens in my Laptop with
Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Seahorse 3.20.0-5).

Because that problem, it's not possible to digitally sign documents with

Hello Chris, or anyone else affected,

Accepted gdm3 into bionic-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/3.28.0-0ubuntu1.1
in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1770971] Re: Update gnome-system-monitor to 3.28.2

2018-05-17 Thread Brian Murray
Hello Jeremy, or anyone else affected,

Accepted gnome-system-monitor into bionic-proposed. The package will
build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/gnome-system-monitor/3.28.2-0ubuntu1 in a few hours, and then in the
-proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

This bug exists in all password prompts throughout the GUI for me:

[Bug 1765261] Re: [regression] Ubuntu 18.04 login screen rejects a valid password on first attempt. Usually works on the second attempt

2018-05-17 Thread Vadim Peretokin
Second time does not work for me - neither the third, nor the tenth.
Once I lock the screen, there is a chance the GNOME environment will
reject all password attempts to lock it and I have to lose all my work
by forcing a restart. This is a very serious problem.

Is there a workaround available?

gdm3 (3.28.0-0ubuntu2) cosmic; urgency=medium

  * debian/patches/0001-libgdm-Don-t-unref-a-connection-that-s-in-use.patch,
debian/patches/0002-libgdm-add-weak-pointer-for-connection-object.patch:
Cherry-pick two patches from the 3.28 branch. These fix a refcounting bug
in the GDM Client object, which had meant that the DBus connection was
being disposed too early in some cases, particularly when logging in after

assumption is that free software is preferred (if not hidden in the way
that the FSF would prefer)? Presumably there's a reason why upstream

OTOH what the client should be doing is looking at 'tracks' to get the
order of the channels, and then using that to look up each track in the
map; this would've avoided the issue (but not the info leak which is

[Bug 1771802] [NEW] enable rc-local.service unit by default

2018-05-17 Thread Matthew Hawkins
Public bug reported:

Every other systemd-infected distribution leaves the rc-local.service
unit enabled; this is probably because provisioning systems need to use
it to launch first-boot tasks.

Ubuntu has been blindly following suit in every other respect and should
do the same here also. It's a null op unless the file exists and is
executable, so enabling it gives all the benefits for extremely
negligible cost.

Example reproducable bug:
* preseed a new host and an rc.local expected to run on boot
* boot and realise rc.local didn't run
* realise you can't enable it in the preseed as systemctl is not affecting the
target system
* curse Lennart (again) and run Devuan instead where things just work as they
should

confirmation/denial. There will be a message when they're accepted into
bionic for testing.

[Bug 1766137] Re: [regression] Password accepted but login fails (blank purple screen and mouse pointer only)

2018-05-17 Thread Iain Lane
** Description changed:

- WORKAROUND: After typing an incorrect password, click Cancel, then click
- your name, then enter your password again.
+ [ Description ]
+
+ Due to a refcounting bug, a GDBusConnection was getting disposed when it
+ was still required. The symptom of this was that you couldn't log in if
+ you'd got your password wrong.
+
+ [ Test case ]
+
+ 1. Boot to GDM
+ 2. Click your username
+ 3. Type the wrong password a couple of times, pressing enter after each time
+ 4. Type the right password
+
+ If the bug is happening, after 4. the system hangs at a blank screen
+ with the mouse cursor. If you then switch to a VT or otherwise connect
+ to the machine, you can examine the journal and you'll see a
+ G_IS_DBUS_CONNECTION failure.
+
+ [ Fix ]
+
+ Marco and I worked upstream on this fix. We found out that there was a
+ problem like this-
+
+ The GdmClient has a shared GDBusConnection for its operations. The first
+ time someone calls for it, it is created and stored in the object's
+ private structure. Subsequent calls return *a new reference* to this
+ same object. It turned out that the asynchronous method to get the
+ connection was accidentally unreferencing its object before giving it to
+ the caller if it was returning an already-existing connection.
+
+ For this to work properly, we need to nullify the pointer we stored when
+ the connection goes away, so we know when to make a new one. There were
+ some cases where we didn't add the weak references required to do that.
+ Those are also fixed.
+
+ [ Regression potential ]
+
+ Now we share connections more than we did before. We also more carefully
+ track when to clear our object. If we got this wrong, we might end up
+ leaking the connection or dropping it in even more cases.
+
+ [ Original report ]
+
+
+ WORKAROUND: After typing an incorrect password, click Cancel, then click your
name, then enter your password again.

  ---

Trying to log into my session (Gnome, Xorg), if I enter the wrong
password before entering it correctly, the session doesn't load and I
get a purple screen, a mouse cursor, and an invisible but clickable menu
in the top right. If I enter it correctly the first time, there is no
  problem.

I've replicated this from a fresh boot, after logging out and after
'sudo service gdm restart' from the Ctrl-Alt-F4 console.

This is a fresh install, and didn't occur when I was using a previous
  install of 18.04 (until Friday).

[Bug 1771791] [NEW] Need to pre-depend on stuff used by systemctl, so systemctl works in other package's preinst

2018-05-17 Thread Julian Andres Klode
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
systemd used to pre-depend on the libraries used by systemctl or something, but
now systemctl uses libsystemd-shared, and there are no pre-depends for that,
meaning that systemctl fails in maintainer scripts of other packages.

[Test case]
Grab the apt-clone file from comment #20 in bug 1766890, and upgrade it to
bionic with apt dist-upgrade -o APT::Immediate-Configure=0. Make sure to not
see error about missing libraries in systemctl.

[Regression potential]
Installation ordering changes. Might make things harder for apt to solve.

[Bug 1771273] Re: Gnome-shell crashes when wake up after updated to 3.28.1-0ubuntu2

2018-05-17 Thread Zihang Ye
Hi Daniel,
The problem never appeared after it happened last time. However, I found the
crash file for the previous crash, and here they are.

Bug #1771788

And there's still another crash, which happened at the same time.
However, the owner is gdm, and I can't upload it neither with my
permission nor with sudo. How should I do?

Btw, you forgot to tell me that I should've commented
/etc/apport/crashdb.conf.

[Bug 1771785] [NEW] Files doesn't snap to the sides

2018-05-17 Thread Paul Tansom
Public bug reported:

With the default Ubuntu install you cannot snap Files to the side of the
screen on a 1366x768 screen. An application won't snap if it cannot be
resized to half the screen size, and the minimum width of Files is
clearly slightly larger than this.

Adjusting the minimum width by a few pixels would seem to be the best
option (that may be subjective). This may, however, be considered also
as a side effect of the Ubuntu Dock down the left hand side, which
reduces the effective screen width. An alternative fix is to reduce the
icon size of the dock from 48 to 46 as this allows enough width for
Files to now snap to the sides. Visually there is little difference, but
48 very much feels the right number (it matches native icon image sizes,
etc.), so unless a more drastic change to 32 makes sense, I would
suggest the preferred fix is to adjust Nautilus/Files - other docks used
on the side would presumably have similar problems with a commonly used
size for larger icons.

[Bug 1767648] Re: Top bar and shell dialogs are not displayed properly when zoom is enabled

2018-05-17 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I've hit a new problem: During zoom any new actors displayed for the
first time (e.g. some bubble menus) are themselves not clones. If you
start gnome-shell with zoom already enabled then even major actors like
the panel or dash are also not clones. Because the unzoomed version
either never existed or was never in a stage at least.

So we can't test for them being clones, meaning
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/merge_requests/52 won't help us
here even after fixing the bugs in that branch :(

[Bug 1771236] Re: forced use of systemd-networkd interferes with ifupdown in 18.04

2018-05-17 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Please provide the contents of /etc/netplan on the affected systems, and
please let me know, if removing files in said directory makes networkd
ignore interfaces.

Please provide output of $ networkctl

By default, if there is no netplan configuration, networkd does not

Thus specifics about your system are required to describe the bug in
