[Bug 1772271] Re: stuttering mouse movement after any shell window opens
Yes I would expect Xorg to be slightly better right now. For reasons unknown as yet, moving the mouse in a Wayland session forces the GPU to redraw everything which will slow it down and stutter more. But in Xorg sessions the mouse pointer can move freely without the GPU having to redraw anything. I'm surprised you see a difference with lowlatency kernels, but if it works for you then great. So this is a general performance bug. Even though the system is over 10 years old I think it should be performing better, but know that gnome- shell is not yet fast enough for most machines, even new ones. I will continue working though the lists of performance problems here: https://trello.com/c/Q6JYXPPs https://trello.com/c/pe5mRmx7 and hopefully in future we will have good enough performance to close this bug. ** Summary changed: - stuttering mouse movement after any shell window opens + Stuttering mouse movement after any shell window opens, on AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 with Radeon HD 3450 ** Also affects: mutter (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: mutter (Ubuntu) Status: New => Triaged ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Medium ** Changed in: mutter (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Medium ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1772271 Title: Stuttering mouse movement after any shell window opens, on AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 with Radeon HD 3450 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1772271/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1772271] Re: stuttering mouse movement after any shell window opens
I ran a bunch of configs none of them had a very big load on the processors. gnome shell 15%pk although eyeballing it, the stable mouse conditions look a little less(?) natural boot: both wayland and xorg have stuttering mouse. boot adv option: non low latency: both wayland and xorg have stable mouse, except wayland gets 'stuck' when crossing off the background onto the favorites bar (mine is on the bottom). The mouse is stable in both regions, but gets hung up when crossing the border. There is no hang up when crossing desktop icons. xorg looks better than wayland under rapid motion and careful examination. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1772271 Title: stuttering mouse movement after any shell window opens To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1772271/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I think you mean "the installation disc was able to do it automatically". This is expected. The problem after installation is that the login screen itself defaults to using Wayland instead of X, and so you will hit the problem there first. ** Summary changed: - [radeon] Every time I boot up ubuntu, the login screen looks like a static TV screen. [Bug 1778143] [NEW] SIGSEV when turning on display while screensaver is active (gnome-screensaver-dialog crash)
Public bug reported: Since the update to Ubuntu 18.04 (ubuntu budgie) the screensaver stopped working. Description of the error: When I lock the screen, the display turns black (as intended). However, when I press a key or move the mouse to turn the display again, no login-dialog is shown - instead I see the lockscreen wallpaper and the mouse cursor shows graphical glitches (becoming invisible and visible when moving it). [Bug 1778134] [NEW] Switching between files in Nautilus using keyboard pointers leads to incorrectly chosen file.
Public bug reported: ## Summary Switching between files in Nautilus using keyboard pointers leads to incorrectly chosen file. Unfortunately I was unable to get debug log from the terminal. ## Prerequisites Ubuntu 18.04 Desktop version is instilled, with GNOME nautilus 3.26.3, nautilus-sendto 3.8.6. ## Steps to reproduce 1) Open nautilus (by clicking on nautilus icon, or by typing "nautilus . &" in a terminal 2) Open a folder with many files that have similar names (reproduced on: * lectures with file names {1..10}-{01..20} "name of the lecture" * pictures, with names as follows DSC{0..1}.JPG) 3) Select a file in the end of a row and press "->" (right) keyboard pointer, to (presumably) navigate to the next row. (I also noticed, that if the issue is not reproduced easily, zooming in/out in the folder increases the probability of the bug) ## Actual result If the last file in a row is selected and right pointer button is pressed on the keyboard (sometimes) selection jumps not to the next row, but 2-5 rows ahead. In the screenshot attached, it jumped from a file named "2-01 Introduction.mp3" to file named "3-08 An Implicit Agreement.mp3" # Expected result The selection should jump to the next row, regardless of file names, zoom or other factors. [Bug 1748147] Re: [SRU] debhelper support override from /etc/tmpfiles.d for systemd
Proposed fix in systemd. Run systemd-tmpfiles, during postinst, the way it would be run on boot, such that all base files are correct, including any overrides shipped by any other package; systemd; in transient runtime dir. At the same time, the dh_installinit is silenced to not produce the systemd-tmpfiles snippet which this package does not need. This solves the issue of integration with rsyslog; generically; without requiring to backport debhelper, nor change rsyslog package. ** Changed in: rsyslog (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Invalid ** Changed in: rsyslog (Ubuntu Xenial) Status: Confirmed => Invalid ** Changed in: rsyslog (Ubuntu Artful) Status: Confirmed => Invalid ** Changed in: rsyslog (Ubuntu Bionic) Status: Confirmed => Invalid ** Changed in: systemd (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Fix Committed ** Patch added: "lp1748147.diff" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1748147/+attachment/5155096/+files/lp1748147.diff ** Changed in: debhelper (Ubuntu Bionic) Status: In Progress => Won't Fix ** Changed in: debhelper (Ubuntu Bionic) Assignee: Seyeong Kim (xtrusia) => (unassigned) ** Changed in: debhelper (Ubuntu Artful) Status: In Progress => Won't Fix ** Changed in: debhelper (Ubuntu Artful) Assignee: Seyeong Kim (xtrusia) => (unassigned) ** Changed in: debhelper (Ubuntu Xenial) Status: In Progress => Won't Fix ** Changed in: debhelper (Ubuntu Xenial) Assignee: Seyeong Kim (xtrusia) => (unassigned) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1748147 Title: [SRU] debhelper support override from /etc/tmpfiles.d for systemd To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/debhelper/+bug/1748147/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
