[Bug 1782275] [NEW] Conflict between resolvconf and systemd-resolved dhclient scripts
Public bug reported: I am setting up an Ubuntu 18.04 (bionic) system with ifupdown instead of netplan, as the latter does not meet my needs. I am using resolvconf to update /etc/resolv.conf from DHCP, as in earlier releases. Unfortunately, I am not seeing /etc/resolv.conf (actually a symlink to /run/resolvconf/resolv.conf) being updated; it is only the boilerplate from /etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/head with no server information appended. (My "base" and "tail" files are empty.) I poked around the scripts in /etc, and believe I have found the problem. When resolvconf is installed, the following two files are present: /etc/dhcp/dhclient-enter-hooks.d/resolvconf /etc/dhcp/dhclient-enter-hooks.d/resolved Both of these scripts define the make_resolv_conf() shell function. What I am seeing is that dhclient runs these two scripts in the (alphabetical) order shown, and as the resolved script runs second, it overwrites the resolvconf version of the shell function with its own. As a result, dhclient does not invoke the appropriate update command for resolvconf, even though the hook script was installed correctly. Normally, I would remove the package that is providing the "resolved" script, but this package is systemd, which cannot be removed. I am not sure which of the two packages (resolvconf or systemd) needs to make an accommodation for the other, but it is clear that the current approach does not work. ** Affects: resolvconf (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: systemd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: systemd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1782275 Title: Conflict between resolvconf and systemd-resolved dhclient scripts To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/resolvconf/+bug/1782275/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal: sudo apt-get clean Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a memory test. Thanks in advance! [Bug 1768840] Re: Evince 3.18.2 claims excessive memeoy when opening a multipage file created with AbbyyFineReader14 (AFR14, runs on Windows10)
According to the people from Abbyy Fine Reader the error is caused by a "linearisation problem" in AFR14 and it will be fixed there. However for files which show the syndrome I found out that they comply to the norm according to VeraPdf. According to the people of Abbyy Fine Reader, the error does no longer show up for Poppler Version > 0.50. However I was unable to check this with Evince since I have no version of Evince at hand which incorporates a version of Poppler>0.50. I only found that pdftotext version 0.66.0 did not use excessive memory nor excessive usage of CPU. Unfortunately I can not switch back to Poppler version 0.41.0 which belongs to Xubuntu 16.04.4. It would be helpful if one could lift all Poppler-dependant programs to a version > 0.50 without changing the version of the operating system. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evince in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1768840 Title: Evince 3.18.2 claims excessive memeoy when opening a multipage file created with AbbyyFineReader14 (AFR14, runs on Windows10) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evince/+bug/1768840/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1774957] Re: Network icons in status menu disappearing
Upstream bug: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/issues/140 ** Description changed: + https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/issues/140 + + --- + Ever since the update to Ubuntu 18.04 I'm having issues with the status menu at the top right of the screen. Normally you'd have a wired network connection icon displayed at the top without opening the menu. In my case it is not displayed half of the time. In the menu list no icon nor label is displayed for the wired connection menu item. When talking about half of the time it means that I can randomly make it display again when removing the USB network adapter and reconnecting it e.g. This does not work reliably though. When connecting to a VPN, normally you'd get an additional icon at the top. This is not the case any more, nor does the switch behind an activated VPN turns change to an active state. The result is that you can activate a VPN using the switch, but you can verify that it is activated, nor can you de-active the VPN through the menu. This does change in settings though. Wireless settings are no longer displayed in the menu at all. So no way to activate it or connect to a specific network. I tried reconfiguring (dpkg-reconfigure) gnome-shell as well as network- manager-gnome, to no avail. Attached you'll find a screenshot illustrating the issue. You'll see two icons missing to the left of the volume icon, as well as the wireless menu missing completely and no icon and text label for the wired connection menu item. [Bug 1782077] [NEW] network/wifi icon missing from top bar and user menu
Public bug reported: On 18.04, after a recent update, the top bar in gnome-shell does not show a wifi icon anymore. More importantly, the network menu entry is missing in the user menu.
