@raphael-fáistonpc: I have been having this and other GDM3 related
issues hitting the laptops I administer and its a showstopper here, too.
My current "solution" has been to give up on GDM3 and just 'sudo apt
install lightdm'. Perhaps that will let your robotics team get back to
work without having to chuck all of the latest Ubuntu.

[Bug 1788691] Re: [Cosmic] gnome-shell crashes when windows key pressed

2018-08-23 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1788690] [NEW] Display manager can't start because gdm3 is uninstalled

2018-08-23 Thread Dan McDonald
Public bug reported:

I was rebooting my laptop and it offered to install updates in the
process. I agreed. When it came back, I was presented with a terminal
login, not graphical. I installed Ubuntu 18.04 from scratch through a
flash drive.

Here is the relevant log from apt/history.log

```
Start-Date: 2018-08-23  15:11:56
```

This breaks the symlink /etc/systemd/system/display-manager.service
which points to /lib/systemd/system/gdm3.service which is provided by
the gdm3 package. Reinstalling gdm3 solves the problem.

[Bug 1788679] [NEW] Features request

2018-08-23 Thread gabry78
Public bug reported:

I use shotwell for a long time. I'm actually using version 0.28.3 –
"Braunschweig" on ubuntu 18.04.5
I think it is one of the best program for photos

In my opinion there are some fearures that should be added:
- auto-internal backup: to backup photos in shotwell we must to backup /images,
/shtotwell thumbnails, cache, etcc. Very annoying.
Could create an automatic procedure menu accessible that creates unique file,
for example .tar.gz ?
it shuold be an option to select which photos to backup. Very important the
possibility also to choice the period (from a date to another) for the backup
giving the possibility to free hdd space.

- Jpg-raw images: a function that is able to erase RAW file from a RAW-
JPG picture. Indeed when we import photos from digital camera (both RAW
and JPG format), we can decide to remove the raw format from some of
these becouse the is already used or not necessary for some photos,
obviously leaving jpg

thank you

Folks that are able to run `kdb_mode`: Please let the rest of us know
what package it's from. It's not available on my system by default, and
I can't seem to find the package that it ships with.

Also, what does this command do? I can't find a man page anywhere.
Thanks!

[Bug 1759462] Re: Keyboard shortcuts not operational on 18.04

2018-08-23 Thread chrismart
I just install 18.04.1.
With Gnome 3, no problem of keyboard shortcuts.
With Unity, some shortcuts don't work (Ctrl+Alt+T, Print screen , Media keys).

I try 2 solutions :

1. Post #11 (with delay 5sec) => in some sessions, they don't work, forced to
restart.
2. Keyboard input method system to none => don't work for me.

Annoying :(

Hello Daniel van Vugt,

I added the variable 'GDK_SYNCHRONIZE=1' in my work environment,
however, the report was marked in the same way as replica ... As if it
were an identical report to LP: #1755779

See LP: #1788613 This report has the variable 'GDK_SYNCHRONIZE=1'

Please tell me what to do ... I currently have _usr_bin_gnome-
shell.1000.crash in case I need...

Kind regards,

[Bug 1784398] Re: Changing monitor settings crashes on meta_window_wayland_move_resize_internal

2018-08-23 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
As we have experienced a regression in bionic-updates due to gnome-shell
building against newer mutter, I will be conditionally releasing this
package without this bug verified as it seems it is not easily
verifiable by unaffected users. The change is enough self-contained that
it appears to be safe. In case the bug is not fixed, please re-open and
request further fixes.

Re: [Bug 1772878] Re: Shotwell slideshow settings do not open

2018-08-23 Thread tea for one
Hello Sebastien
Thank you for the notification.
I added the repository (deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu cosmic main) to my
sources list and installed the latest Shotwell version 0.29.91.
The slideshow settings are now available and seem to be working OK. I have only
tested for about 5 minutes and it all looks good so far.
Thank you for your help
Kind regards

[Bug 1788592] [NEW] ubuntu-session should recommend gnome-initial-setup and ubuntu-report

2018-08-23 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
Public bug reported:

Currently gnome-initial-setup and ubuntu-report are recommends of
ubuntu-desktop.
However users may have uninstalled ubuntu-desktop but kept ubuntu-session or
may have installed another flavour then installed ubuntu-session afterwards.
In both cases gnome-initial-setup and ubuntu-report are not installed during a
release upgrade to bionic but gnome-initial-setup and ubuntu-report still need
to run if they log into the ubuntu session.

Based on the upgrade crash reports from xenial to bionic collected by
launchpad, over a total of 81 reports:
- 63.0% have ubuntu-desktop installed
- 81.5% have ubuntu-session installed

Which means 18.5% do not have g-i-s and ubuntu-report installed during
upgrade.

[Bug 1775226] Re: [SRU] Gnome Software offers installation of updates on shutdown independently from update-manager and unattended-upgrades

2018-08-23 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Hello Balint, or anyone else affected,

Accepted gnome-software into bionic-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
software/3.28.1-0ubuntu4.18.04.3 in a few hours, and then in the
-proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1788364] Re: Terminal not working on Ubuntu 18.04

2018-08-23 Thread Luís de Sousa
Hello again, some updates on this issue.

I have been trying to upload a report with apport when a terminal window
is greyed out. However, apport is also unresponsive when this happens,
I use the Alt+F2 command prompt, it takes about 20 seconds to display
the keyboard input (about one character per second) and never reacts to
the Enter input.

A more important point: I noticed that a process named "orca" was using
100% CPU when the terminal becomes unresponsive. I managed to end the
process in the System Monitor, and immediately the terminal started
functioning correctly again. Since the command prompt is also not
functional during these events, I am unable to upload a report on orca.

Thank you.
