2018-09-26 Thread Lutchy Horace (Bug Management)
Public bug reported:

When I use Bitwarden extension by clicking on the icon, the popup
immediately hides. See [1], although further digging suggest the bug
was/in iBus, see [2] and [3]. Although, the source (or code path)
originates from Gnome-Shell, see [4] and [5]. There is a propose fixed
but it hasn't been merged. I'm reporting the issue here, so it can at
least be tracked and I can get notified when it arrives in Ubuntu.

[Bug 1794638] [NEW] gdm crashes immediately after login

2018-09-26 Thread Rocko
Public bug reported:

Immediately after I login on Ubuntu 18.10 into gnome-shell, gdm
disappears even though gnome-shell is fine: if I try switching to tty1
with CTRL-ALT F1, I just see a list of bootup messages (like 'Starting
Fingerpint Authentication Daemon').

loginctl shows only one session:

$ loginctl
SESSION UID USER SEAT TTY
  2 1001 rocko seat0 tty2

1 sessions listed.

There's no crash file in /var/crash, and no useful information in gdm3's
status:

$ systemctl status gdm3
● gdm.service - GNOME Display Manager
Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/gdm.service; static; vendor preset:
enabled)
  Drop-In: /lib/systemd/system/display-manager.service.d
   └─xdiagnose.conf
Active: active (running) since Thu 2018-09-27 09:33:45 AWST; 4min 46s ago
  Process: 1356 ExecStartPre=/usr/share/gdm/generate-config (code=exited,
status=0/SUCCESS)
 Main PID: 1364 (gdm3)
Tasks: 3 (limit: 4915)
   Memory: 9.0M
   CGroup: /system.slice/gdm.service
   └─1364 /usr/sbin/gdm3

Warning: Journal has been rotated since unit was started. Log output is
incomplete or unavailable.

If I try switching to another user via the gnome-shell menu, gdm3 gets
restarted and I get the login screen again on tty1. However, if gnome-shell
crashes (eg when it freezes), I can't easily restart gdm3, so it's a nuisance.

Previously, the gdm3 login screen was always available on tty1 so it was
easy to switch to backup user if the first user's session crashed.

[Bug 1794280] Re: gdm doesn't start on a fresh installation of Cosmic Desktop

2018-09-26 Thread Treviño
Still I can't find a way to reproduce this here...

Using that command fails here as probably my user isn't part of libvirtd
or something similar (I'm getting qemu-system-x86_64: failed to
initialize KVM: Permission denied).

While installing from virt-manager seem to work properly.

If you've machines with reproducible results, sharing an image
(shrinked) would be the only way I think.

I have reproduced it running the beta image on a local kvm instance. Command

Got the black screen + blinking cursor on first boot. Trying to see if

[Bug 1788220] Re: [snap] Ubuntu 18.04 LTS includes gnome-calculator as a snap

2018-09-26 Thread Ivan
@paulw2u I disagree with this being a gnome-calculator problem. This is
a much more general problem that has to do also with the installation
size.

I believe that bugs like this, and like [1], indicate that snap is not
yet ready to be included by default, and especially not for basic
desktop applications like calc.

I would like the status of this bug to be reset to affect Ubuntu (or
perhaps ubuntu-desktop if that's the one that should depend on gnome-
calculator), and the inclusion of snap or potential removal from the
default installation (meaning as a direct or indirect dependency of
ubuntu-desktop) to be discussed.

Lowering because it is not reproducible. It seems that first boot takes

[Bug 1791373] Re: [FFe] Update gnome-terminal to 3.30.0 and vte to 0.54

2018-09-26 Thread Egmont Koblinger
Hi guys,

- Due to a change in vte-0.54 around the child-exited signal,
unfortunately lxterminal (LP: #1794440) and sakura (LP: #1790317) now
crash when a tab is closed by clicking on the X button. Luckily, a fix
is available for both of them. Could you please make sure to apply those
fixes?

- I know that normally you update to the .1 minor release, I'd just like
to point out that vte-0.54.1 fixes a segfault around encoding switches,
so please indeed make sure not to miss this update.

Thanks!
