[Bug 1796550] Re: Separate keyboard brightness control keys (down/up) don't work

2018-10-07 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Now upstream in: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-settings-
daemon/issues/100

** Description changed:

- https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/issues/636
+ https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-settings-daemon/issues/100

  ---

  On laptops with two separate (down,up) keys to control the backlit
  keyboard, both keys seem to do nothing. The OSD for the backlit keyboard
  is displayed but no progress bar and no actual effect to the backlight.
  Almost as if the shell only understands laptops with a single key for
  controlling the keyboard backlight...

  Bug verified in cosmic on:
    * Asus UX331UAL
    * Apple Macbook Pro 12,1
    * Apple Macbook Air

  All of them have these keys and they all fail in the same way. However
  it is not a kernel bug. The kernel interface
  (/sys/class/leds/*::kbd_backlight/*) works when I write to it directly.
  This seems to be a problem with Gnome Shell only.

[Bug 1795028] Re: Nautilus crashes during search in is_recursive_search (search-engine)

2018-10-07 Thread vanadium
It is my experience that Ubuntu Search also crashes when searching from
the home directory.

- Most likely to occur with short searches (three to four letters)
- More likely to happen early in the session than after a few restarts of the
session.

Core functionality of a modern file browser that stripped type-ahead
search away to make place for recursive search. More dan "Medium"
importance according to me.

Nautilus 3.26.4 is where I am still experiencing the issue.

[Bug 1778011] Re: SRU: PRIME Power Saving mode draws too much power

2018-10-07 Thread Unkraut
I tested this on a Dell XPS 15 9570.
When using the kernel is 4.18.12-041812-generic, boot options:
acpi_rev_override=5 acpi_osi=Linux scsi_mod.use_blk_mq=1 and selecting nvidia I
don't get any graphical login.I have to switch to intel via the recovery root
console.

When selecting intel, power consumption is between 8 and 9 W which means nvidia
GPU is off.
After standby the screen is corrupted.

[Bug 1796550] [NEW] Separate keyboard brightness control keys (down/up) don't work

2018-10-07 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Public bug reported:

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/issues/636

  * Asus UX331UAL
  * Apple Macbook Pro 12,1
  * Apple Macbook Air

All of them have these keys and they all fail in the same way. However
it is not a kernel bug. The kernel interface
(/sys/class/leds/*::kbd_backlight/*) works when I write to it directly.
This seems to be a problem with Gnome Shell only.

  Xorg sessions have higher output lag than Wayland sessions.

  Test case:
  Grab a window with the mouse and drag it around smoothly.

  Expected: the same minimal gap between the cursor and the window's title bar
in both Xorg and Wayland sessions.
  Observed: a bigger gap (higher latency) in Xorg sessions.

  I only realized this was a bug when I stumbled on a fix while
