[Bug 1797735] [NEW] Use Ubuntu-specific Google API keys

2018-10-13 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

Test Case
=
In the "Welcome to Ubuntu" wizard in Ubuntu 18.10, on the Online Accounts
Screen, click Google.
The dialog currently reads "Sign in to continue to GNOME"
After authenticating, it says "GNOME wants to access your Google account"

(Because it's a web page, Google can change the exact wording at any
time.)

Suggestion
==
Canonical should consider using its own Google API keys. I suggest using
different keys at least for each LTS release.

Benefits

These API keys have usage limits. Ubuntu is a substantial part of GNOME's usage
and it makes sense to spread out the load more.

Occasionally, there is a need to replace keys. If Canonical already has
a system for these keys, it might be able to replace these keys faster.
An example of when it was needed was with Evolution 3.20 which had a bug
(sort of a DDoS) that led to Google throttling all users of that API
key.

Other Info
==
Both GOA and EDS have Google keys and Canonical should probably use separate
keys for each. (Users of the Evolution app can choose to use GNOME Online
Accounts or authenticate directly in Evolution without using GOA.)

marking this bug as fixed released. I have also tested on an Ubuntu

Second screen capture : NO way to select time servers.

Either update the documentation or better, allow the choice of time
servers from the tool.

Why did this function disappear without notice?

4 years after, the bug is still here...
I just installed Linux Mint 19 Tara and the help /doc says it is possible to

'screen capture of documentation'

[Bug 483159] [NEW] pam_mount trying to unmount my auto-mounted encrypted partitions every hour via CRON

2018-10-13 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: libpam-mount

Since I upgraded to Karmic, I noticed the weird fact that my two auto-
mounted LUKS-encrypted partitions randomly seemed to disappear from mtab
- I had to manually mount them again to use them. I've been using them
for several years with all ubuntus so far, never had a problem until
now.

These partitions are automatically mounted on login via pam_mount. These are
the entries in pam_mount.conf.xml:

After digging in the logs, I've found that there is some sort of a cron job
trying to unmount my two partitions and running every 60 minutes. If the
partitions are busy then they survive; if they are not busy, then they are
umounted (very weird !)

>From my auth.log I see this every hour:

In my view this is a major bug.

A hint or workaround on how to stop this CRON thing from trying to
unmount my drives would be greatly appreciated.

I've found only this similar reference:

seems to hint that the problem was introduced recently in debian, in
libpam_mount 1.27-4

[Bug 1448778] Re: Evince fails to display some fonts (some font thing failed)

2018-10-13 Thread bitinerant
Seth--thanks for the helpful details.

I appreciate the suggestions, but none quite fit my use case. It's
really 2 users wanting to share the fonts--one owns them and the other
has a symlink. If I put them in /usr/local/share/fonts/ then they don't
get backed up and can't be modified. I think the simplest option for me
is to use the extra 74 MB and make a copy for each user.

I understand the execution privileges issue if the font files are owned
by another user, so you've convinced me that this is a valid security
precaution.

Do you agree, however, that it would be helpful to display a message for
the user rather than empty space in their PDF?

[Bug 1759462] Re: Keyboard shortcuts not operational on 18.04

2018-10-13 Thread Sey Mza
I have the same problem. I have installed Ubuntu 18.04 with Unity using
the mini ISO. So I don't have GNOME installed with Unity. Keyboard
shortcuts (e.g., launching Terminal or switching between keyboard
layouts) don't work. Adding sleep 5 before launching compiz in
/usr/lib/systemd/user/unity7.service works but only if I don't lock the
screen. After unlocking the screen, shortcuts don't work again. The
other solution that I've tried is to toggle "Commands" in "CompizConfig
Settings Manager." This works but only if I don't log out. So I have to
redo it every time I log out and log in. Is there any permanent solution
to this? This is really irritating.

[Bug 1767536] Re: Accessing the WIFI section of the "Settings" window causes massive freezes

2018-10-13 Thread Jarvis Schultz
I notice that if I launch gnome-control-center from the command line
with the "--verbose" option, when I'm on the WiFi tab it prints out all
SSIDs available at extremely high speeds. It seems like maybe the
periodic scan of networks is happening far too quickly. When I switch to
a different tab there is a message about disabling periodic scanning,
and suddenly the CPU usage drops dramatically and everything seems to
work. I also notice that if I use "rfkill" to disable WiFi, and then run
gnome-control-center I can't reproduce the high CPU usage.

I'm attaching a snippet of the printouts that are coming on the WiFi
tab. Notice it is printing about 2000 messages per second.

[Bug 1796915] Re: Volume notification popup resizes the full screen application

2018-10-13 Thread Vitaly
** Description changed:

When I playing a game (Steam, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive), and
touch multimedia volume controls on keyboard (mute, volume up, volume
down), notification popups appears, but when popups is being showed, the
game's full screen makes a bit smaller at the same time showing Ubuntu's
panel and dock (showing their spaces, but not drawing them, just void
spaces), when notification volume popup hides back, full screen
restores. The problem shown only when volume notification popup is
  showing.

Steam game called Broforce (full screen)(this game has Unity3d engine),
when I change volume, frequently it hangs the game (just before showing
notification popup), and whole computer (music still plays), having to
restart the PC, because it doesn't respond to Alt+f4, and sometimes
doesn't respond to Alt+Tab. I had hangs problems with that game in
KDE5/Plasma, but I never had problems in Xfce4.
+
+
+ UPDATE 1-
+ Now, I put the dock at bottom of the screen (I did not activate autohide),
and I don't get dock space showing problem in full screen anymore (top/upside
panel still remains showing void space in full screen), so getting the dock at
the botton fixes dock showing void panel in full screen applications. Now when
I change volume/mute, and while volume notification is showing, I see only void
panel space in full screen applications. And when I receive Telegram
notifications, happens the same as with volume notifications. Really annoying.

Right, but that's the original bug (bug #1786344) which is still open.

[Bug 1789665] Re: Intelligent Pinyin not recognized as a Chinese input source

2018-10-13 Thread Ping-Wu
Still no default Chinese input method was selected when booted into the
Chinese locale. Very inconvenient and unexpected. Should follow the
16.04 approach in which libpinyin is selected as the default Chinese
input method. The user can subsequently change to his or her preferred
method.
