[Bug 1803807] Re: Lock screen doesn't hide the screen contents

2018-11-18 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Interesting. It might be a bug in one of those (standard Ubuntu
extensions). It might also be an old extensions hiding in:

  ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/

[Bug 1803807] Re: Lock screen doesn't hide the screen contents

2018-11-18 Thread Andras Veto
I just tested something, and it turns out that the issue was I had the
Extensions turned on (even though each extension itself was off, as in
the picture). Once I toggled that off, the issue resolved itself and now
locking appears to work perfectly. Not sure why having extensions on
would cause this behavior, though.

The lock screen should maintain the functionality present in 18.04. Pressing
the shortcut once should lock the screen, no ui elements should remain on the
locked screen, locking and unlocking the screen should not result in the dock
disappearing.

The lock screen no longer works. It is possible to view and interact with ui

[Bug 1762952] Re: Alternative shortcut for layout switching Alt+Shift unexpectedly set by default

2018-11-18 Thread C. Daniel Mojoli B.
This bug made using emacs and IntelliJ Idea a nuisance. I found a simple
workaround.
0
=1=

You can verify how ALT and SHIFT are not being detected simultaneously by
running
$ xkbwatch

Notice how the blinky lights change for ALT and for SHIFT but not for
both at the same time.

=2=

$ setxkbmap -query
rules: evdev
model: pc105
layout: us,us,us
variant:,intl,
options:grp:alt_shift_toggle,grp_led:scroll

THIS IS THE PROBLEM

=3=

We will now unset ALT-SHIFT toggle.

$ setxkbmap -option -option grp_led:scroll
^^^
DELIBERATELY EMPTY

The first empty -option erases all options, the second one just carries
over an option we want to keep. Additional -option clauses can preserve
other preexisting options.

I can still change to next/previous input source with whatever is
configured in Settings/Keyboard/Typing

=4=

Do step =2= again and notice how ALT and SHIFT now play together
simultaneously.

I am now a happy Emacs and IntelliJ user. This is a single command
workaround.

[Bug 1803807] Re: Lock screen doesn't work in 18.10

2018-11-18 Thread Andras Veto
This is after locking the screen once.

I opened the top right menu after locking the screen, and then opened
the keyboard menu to the left of it. Both stay up, and can no longer be
interacted with. The blurriness on the menus is not just because of the
picture, that's what it looks like.

[Bug 1803807] Re: Lock screen doesn't work in 18.10

2018-11-18 Thread Andras Veto
Thanks for your response. Sorry for not seeing the existing bug reports.

When I lock once, the ui freezes completely and is still visible.

However, on the top bar (sorry, not sure what the specific terms are),
the "Activities" button, any open application indicators (the things
with the icons and the application name in the top bar), and the
date/time disappear, but the keyboard language indicator and other
indicators on the top right remain visible. It is still possible to
click on the keyboard indicator or top right menu to bring them up, but
at that point they can no longer be interacted with. The top right menu
does show a pause button instead of the settings/lock/power button.

Pressing lock a second time locks the screen as normal.

This morning, I tried locking the screen by pressing the button itself
instead of using the keyboard shortcut, and that worked the first time,
but displayed the behavior described above the second time.

I only have gnome-tweaks installed that I know of (for disabling mouse
acceleration). In the extensions tab, both items (kstatusnotifieritem
and ubuntu dock) were disabled.

Please let me know if I can provide any more information to help resolve
this, or if this was unclear. I would attach pictures, but PrtSc doesn't
do anything after pressing lock the first time.

[Bug 1803830] Re: Mouse pointer trailing and disturbing the content that the pointer "touches"

2018-11-18 Thread Daniel van Vugt
When things appear and disappear, blinking, it means they have been
rendered in one graphics buffer but forgotten in the next. It's unusual,
but not impossible, for the mouse pointer to be included in that. So
it's a bug either in the shell, or in the graphics driver.

Please start by removing the kernel module
'lkp_Ubuntu_4_15_0_38_41_generic_45' from the machine. Reboot and see if
the problem persists.

Please also run this command:

  dpkg -l > allpackages.txt

and send us the resulting 'allpackages.txt'.

[Bug 1803581] Re: PrepareForShutdown() signal from logind is not handled

2018-11-18 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I know. Thanks.

** Changed in: gdm3 (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete => New

** Description changed:

+
+ ---
+
When a user logged in to the GUI session and she/he request shutdown of
the system a PrepareForShutdown() signal is emitted by logind:

  https://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/systemd/inhibit/

Processes holding delay inhibitor locks can start their pre-shutdown
operations and until they finish there is no feedback in a Unity session
for the logged in user that shutdown is successfully requested on
Xenial. On Bionic, the default Gnome 3 session does handle the signal
and logs the user off to GDM, but GDM does not tell that shutdown is
pending and the user may think that she/he can log in again or should to
something to really start the shutdown.

With Ubuntu's default configuration the confusion only lasted up to 5
seconds (default max delay for inhibitor locks), but the next upload of
unattended-upgrades increases the delay up to 30 seconds which is more
  than noticeable (LP: #1803137).

Please consider either logging the user off from Unity and stopping GDM
to switch over the plymouth shutdown screen or at least showing a
  notification about the ongoing shutdown.

a Xorg bug. Maybe mutter or maybe the kernel.

[Bug 992430] Re: ubuntu update to 12.04 LTS wipes ~/.local data

2018-11-18 Thread Humphrey van Polanen Petel
Sorry, Paul, but I have lost my faith in the idea of volunteer support
without strict oversight (which I gather is how things are working
here). There have been too many problem that I felt were important that
were graded low importance or even placed on the wishlist. I get the
strong impression that this is the consequence of essentially a CLI
mindset while the rest of the world is GUI. I plan to one day write to
Canonical about this, but I have other priorities. Meanwhile I am happy
to let this one expire.

[Bug 1803586] Re: SeaHorse hangs Panel when trying to decrypt file

2018-11-18 Thread Rami Hakim
** Description changed:

  Hello ,

Let's say that we have a file that we need to encrypt , so you go ahead
and click Encrypt and then SeaHorse will ask you to choose which PGP to
use , if you don't have one then you will be prompted to make one ,
let's say that we have made the PGP key and we encrypted the key but we
didn't save the passphrase in the password manager so you will be
prompted to put the password so you can decrypt the file and see the
  content

But when you get prompted to put the passphrase to decrypt, then you
decide not to put the passphrase but to cancel the process, you will be
prompted second time to put the password automatically , I cancel it
again and then the PC works just fine , but the whole menu is stuck , I
can't click on Applications/Places/System , but I am able to click on
  the icons in the panel

But it's frozen , I need to logout and login again to be able to use the
  panel again

+ UPDATE : Even if not cancelling , putting the passphrase and unlocking
+ the encryption will result in having the unencrypted file but still the
+ panel freezes, And a logout/restart is needed to get it back working.
+
If I'm missing any information please tell me I would update

  Thanks.

[Bug 1800749] Re: Ubuntu 18.10 doesn't like fullscreen mode for sauerbraten(game)

2018-11-18 Thread Paul
Correction: not _epoll_, but _poll_. Again, it was a hack at trouble-
shooting and may be unrelated.

Sorted Sauerbraten strace log snip:
---
 11 poll([{fd=7, events=POLLIN}], 1, -1)= 1 ([{fd=7, revents=POLLIN}])
 11 poll([{fd=7, events=POLLIN|POLLOUT}], 1, -1) = 1 ([{fd=7,
revents=POLLOUT}])
 11 poll([{fd=8, events=POLLIN}], 1, -1)= 1 ([{fd=8, revents=POLLIN}])
 11 poll([{fd=8, events=POLLIN|POLLOUT}], 1, -1) = 1 ([{fd=8,
revents=POLLOUT}])
---

Generated by stracing sauerbraten in fullscreen mode, counting 10 rogue
mouse pointer flickers, and exiting game.

[Bug 1770502] Re: Brasero hangs when burning cds

2018-11-18 Thread Nigel Stewart
Same problem for me with Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS

Workaround succeeded but seems reasonable for brasero to prompt for
sudo, or similar.

[Bug 1800749] Re: Ubuntu 18.10 doesn't like fullscreen mode for sauerbraten(game)

2018-11-18 Thread Paul
It appears that the xinput devices(keyboard/mouse) are being hijacked by
desktop? As long as there is user input(keyboard/mouse activity) at
least once second within Sauerbraten, everything works as expected in
Ubuntu 18.10. Further bug info: I noticed that if you're moving forward
with the 'w' key(with no mouse activity), and jump(press 'spacebar')
while keeping the 'w' key pressed, the bug returns about a second later.
The forward movement stops and the rogue mouse pointer returns to
flickering, as if there is no user activity, or as if the user input
activity has been cleared/reset. ***If you _don't_ jump while moving
forward, the forward movement continues as expected and the rogue mouse
pointer stays away. When there is no user input/activity for about 1
second, the flickering mouse pointer returns. Again, everything works
as expected in Ubuntu 18.04. Thanks!

PS. Sorting straces of Sauerbraten seem show a similar number of epoll
calls as flickers of the rogue mouse pointer, but that was a hack at
trouble-shooting and may be unrelated. Thank again!
