[Bug 1795342] Re: High Power Consumption

2018-12-03 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks, that's a nice report.

It appears your main power consumers are Firefox, Gnome Shell and the
Intel graphics driver. Actually that's all likely just due to Firefox,
which may be consuming more power since it is now being composited
through Gnome Shell and both of them use the Intel graphics driver...

To test this theory, please close Firefox and leave the laptop idle for
some time while Gnome Shell is still open. Does eliminating Firefox stop
the high power consumption?

P.S. You can probably also uninstall the 'removeaccesibility' extension. You
can do the same thing in:
Settings > Universal Access > Always Show Universal Access Menu = OFF

[Bug 1767654] Re: [Intel Braswell] Cursor gets stuck on left side of the screen

2018-12-03 Thread Jeffery Telford
I had the exact same problem with my Intel NUC5CPYH which uses the
Braswell chipset. After reading a lot of other articles I found this
worked for me and now I can move my mouse anywhere on the desktop and my
whole experience is a lot snappier:

1. Create a new xorg.conf file in your home directory:

sudo X :1 -configure

2. Edit the new xorg.conf.new file and modify/uncomment the following lines in
the "Device" section:

Driver "intel"
Option "AccelMethod" "sna"
Option "TearFree" "true"
Option "DRI" "3"

3. Copy the file to the /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d directory and name it
20-intel.conf:

sudo cp xorg.conf.new /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf

4. Either reboot or restart the gdm service.

If it doesn't work other posters suggested using "uxa" as the
AccelMethod but apparently "sna" is faster.

[Bug 1624644] Re: By default settings unattended-upgrade does not automatically remove packages that become unused in conjunction with updating by other software

2018-12-03 Thread Brian Murray
Hello Jarno, or anyone else affected,

Accepted unattended-upgrades into xenial-proposed. The package will
build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/unattended-upgrades/1.1ubuntu1.18.04.7~16.04.0 in a few hours, and then
in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-xenial to verification-done-xenial. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-xenial. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

** Description changed:

  Hi,

I am running Ubuntu on Thinkpad. I am facing battery back up issues on both
18.04 and 18.10 versions. Before that I was running Ubuntu 16.04 with a normal
back of almost 4 hours ( 2 Sony Batteries with normal back up of up to min of 6
hours on Linux Mint 19) and when upgrading to 18.04 it reduced to 3 hours max
on normal usage and less than 2 hours on heavy use.
I tried installing Unity session on 18.04/10, the back up increased. I think
it is Gnome doing the mess.

[Bug 1806448] [NEW] dragging a window to the edge of the screen does not produce the desired effect

2018-12-03 Thread Alexander Kallenbach
Public bug reported:

Have a relatively fresh installation of Ubuntu 18.10. Unfortunately, I just had
to realize that dragging windows to the left or right edge unfortunately does
not have the desired effect in a number of cases that they fill half the
screen. This applies to the following apps, among others:
- LibreOffice
- Nautilus
- Gnome Calendar
- Gnome Tasks
- Settings
Seems to be the same in a wayland and X Session. Especially the problem with
LibreOffice makes working almost impossible for me.

Should not necessarily be part of a bug report, but I'm thinking about
switching back to Unity or another desktop environment, as the Gnome
desktop doesn't seem to be mature for a long time (I've already reported
well over 10 bugs now).

[Bug 1800352] Re: screen lock leaves desktop and current applications displayed unless activated twice

2018-12-03 Thread Gabriel C.
@hjwp2 - FWIW, for me it does bring up the lock screen but it's still
bugged, as--while I cannot interact with them once they're started--I am
able to start applications in the Gnome Dock and as well as interact
with any Gnome Activities Bar widgets.

Depending on what's on your dock, I suppose this could be "bad".

day. Promoted on the Gnome website:
https://www.gnome.org/news/2017/03/gnome-3-24-released/attachment/night-
light/

The internal screen of my Thinkpad X1 Yoga is set to 2560*1440, scaling
200%, 60,01 Hz.

I've just tried scrolling. On pinch to zoom the orientation doesn't
matter. Can I test other gestures? Is there an overview of available
gestures?

I'm using the touchscreen of my ThinkPad X1 Yoga.

[Bug 1801429] Re: Empathy TLS error

2018-12-03 Thread Jennifer Richards
This affects me as of updating to 18.10. All Google Talk accounts
complain that the connection is untrusted. The certificate details show
a CN of "invalid2.invalid" and an OU of "No SNI provided; please fix
your client."

This completly blocks use of Empathy with Google Talk, as even trying to
accept the untrusted connection fails to connect.

I traced this down last week and I believe this is caused by making a
request using TLS1.3 without specifying the SNI properly. Google has
apparently decided not to play along, instead rejecting such clients.
This suggests that Empathy is incorrectly using TLS.

[Bug 1806402] [NEW] Chinese input fails to input if you don't select 1st candidate and persists

2018-12-03 Thread Nicholas Cheng
Public bug reported:

1) Ubuntu release
Description:Ubuntu 18.10
Release:18.10

2) Package version
ibus-libpinyin:
  Installed: 1.10.0-1
  Candidate: 1.10.0-1
  Version table:
 *** 1.10.0-1 500
500 http://my.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu cosmic/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3) Typing pinyin and selecting first candidate works. Selecting another
candidate results in inputting the number of the candidate instead of
the Chinese character. Chinese input also fails to continue working
until you switch back and forth (Pinyin -> English -> Pinyin).

4) Being able to select and input all characters displayed in the
candidate window & Chinese input continually working.

[Bug 1806384] [NEW] lock screen shows application list and allows launching apps

2018-12-03 Thread Martin Vysny
Public bug reported:

Sometimes the login screen suddenly does not hide the app list. Clicking
on individual apps will actually launch that app behind the lock screen.

I haven't found a way to reliably reproduce this issue - it happens
"randomly", mostly after I dock/undock laptop, or suspend/resume the
laptop, or maybe plug/unplug the monitor.

[Bug 1800352] Re: screen lock leaves desktop and current applications displayed unless activated twice

2018-12-03 Thread Harry P
hi there, i've been trying to find the time to do a little video, but in
the meantime i have some more details:

- related bug: pressing lock (super+l) does effectively "lock" the
machine in that it prevents input/interaction, but does not hide the
desktop. pressing it a second time displays the lock screen

- further detail: bug where desktop is displayed only happens to me
when I close the laptop lid, rather than locking it manually, presumably
because when I lock I hit super+l twice because of the above.

- to resume from "broken-lock" i need to press the lock key to display
the password input screen.

[Bug 1806379] [NEW] [MIR] gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons

2018-12-03 Thread Iain Lane
Public bug reported:

Availability

Currently in binNEW - synced from experimental.

This is an arch:all package (no compilation; all JS), successfully
built.

Rationale
=
The desktop team would like to include Nautilus 3.30 in disco. However,
Nautilus as of 3.28 - Ubuntu currently has 3.26 - drops support for having
icons on the desktop. We'd like to keep this.

The upstream team have provided a GNOME Shell extension to replace this
functionality, which we want to ship. It is not "1.0" yet - we are
working with upstream on iterating it.

This package is a GNOME Shell extension written for 'gjs', i.e. in
Javascript with GObject/GNOME support. It uses the standard GNOME
libraries.

Our intention is to work with upstream improve this extension over
'disco' and following cycles up to the next LTS; to that end we would
like to include it in Ubuntu Desktop fairly early on, to identify and
shake out any problems.

Security

No known security issues, but this is a relatively new piece of software.

https://security-tracker.debian.org/tracker/source-package/gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons
(once accepted):
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons/+cve

Quality assurance
=
Desktop is subscribed.

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?src=gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons

Dependencies

No binary universe dependencies

Standards compliance

4.2.1, compat 11, dh rules

Maintenance
===
We've packaged this as part of the Debian GNOME team, and we'll maintain it
there.
