[Bug 1809217] [NEW] Image icons appear as black rectangles instead of previews
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Sorry, but I'm a french guy and my english isn't fluent enough for telling you what is happenning to me . So I must follow in french. Please !!! I don't think this would be a regression. And it seems the instructions for how to get it working have changed over the years so I don't know what works right now... [Bug 1765304] Re: Ubuntu 18.04's ibus package breaks password fields in Firefox (by lowering & raising window whenever they're focused)
Hi Brian. I have been running Cosmic (Ubuntu 18.10) as my main OS since its release, and I don't think I've ever actually hit the bug on Cosmic. (I just verified that I have the GTK_IM_MODULE=ibus variable set, too. So I think I would be hitting this bug, if Cosmic were affected.) So, my assumption has been that Cosmic has a newer snapshot of gnome- shell or ibus or some other involved package which has changed in some way to avoid the bug. All of which is to say: based on my experience at least, the update from comment #52 here isn't necessary to fix this bug in Cosmic (but perhaps it's still valuable to keep pace with upstream, or something like that). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1765304 Title: Ubuntu 18.04's ibus package breaks password fields in Firefox (by lowering & raising window whenever they're focused) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1765304/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1806404] Re: After the screen turns off the machine has to be rebooted to get back to a working session
I was an intel machine, and disconnecting the external video connection caused a lot of devices to disappear and then reappear, including the usb ports, the touchscreen, the webcam, and indeed the video card. When the video card gets pulled out lots of things get upset and you end up at a black screen. Switching to vt1 and back to 2 gets back to the running session. This smells more of a hardware issue than a bug. andyrock did some debugging but we couldnt get to the bottom of it. The user is also now reporting that the headphone socket has stopped working. This makes me think it's even more likely to be a hardware issue. I'll follow up again in the new year, but I don't think there is anything else we can do here. [Bug 1809117] Re: Screen corruption on "Lock Screen" or "Switch User" command
Not a problem on live USB stick I installed from. I booted the live medium for Cosmic, set a password for the live user, created 'anotheruser' from the Settings panel, logged out and back in as the live session user. Clicked the User Menu -> Live Session User -> Switch User, and I was taken straight to the GDM login screen, where I could switch user to anotheruser. And I was able to switch back and forth between the live user and anotheruser without any issues. An oddity is in the live session the 'Lock screen' icon isn't offered even though the accounts are password-protected - only Switch User is present - which makes me wonder if I'm activating the same code path this way. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1809117 Title: Screen corruption on "Lock Screen" or "Switch User" command To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1809117/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1809117] [NEW] Screen corruption on "Lock Screen" or "Switch User" command
Public bug reported: Click the user menu (top right) and choose either the Lock icon or $username -> Switch User. I expected to be sent to a lock screen (possibly via a blanked screen or a screensaver - I don't know what normal behaviour is for Ubuntu 19.04). What happened was most of the Gnome shell was left up on screen, including all my apps that were running, along with the user menu with greyed-out Lock button. If I click the menu again, I get the cut-down version I would expect from GDM with only the option to alter volume and network connections. If I click the top bar again, I get a sort of shimmering version of the cut-down user menu superimposed on the original full version of the user menu that never went away. The favourites icon on the left dock are also clickable and hoverable, but they don't actually do anything and any tooltips are left imprinted on the screen. I can unlock the screen again by manually pressing Ctrl-Alt-F1 to return me to the original GDM login screen, clicking my user picture and entering my password. I have an unlisted youtube video of most of this behaviour, except there's no recording of me switching to VT1 to unlock again (the recorded screen goes blank for that part). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjocsxBLUpE My assignment of 'gnome-shell' is a guess. As far as I know it could be related to gdm3, the X intel driver, X itself or even the kernel, or some nasty interaction between those. [Bug 1809103] [NEW] Memory leak in evolution
Public bug reported: I have been experiencing huge memory leaks in evolution data server in the last days and I came to this bug report https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/evolution-data-server/issues/46 which apparently has been fixed in 3.30.2. [Bug 1722455] Re: Creation of mail/contact/calendar accounts impossible
I want to connect to an IMAP and SMTP service. I have to enter the email address (which is something other than the login name). Do I give the login name, I cannot forward, do I give the email address, I can forward but the login into the server fails. "Error connecting to IMAP server Invalid certificate." Ignoring brings me to SMTP "Error connecting to SMTP server Could not connect to : Connection refused" I can use Encryption: None, STARTTLS after connecting or SSL on a dedicated port (where I cannot specify the port) Here I can press Try Again as long as I want. No config file is generated, I can Cancel the process and have no way to access CAL or CARDs There are some providers (mostly cloud services) hard coded but a general connection option is not available (as is in Thunderbird). If this does not work, Gnome Calendar, Addressbook, Geary and related applications are extremly limited in the usefulness. I first filed this with Ubuntu 17.10, then tested with Budgy 17.10, then 18.04 and now with 18.10. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1722455 Title: Creation of mail/contact/calendar accounts impossible To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1722455/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1809092] [NEW] gnome-shell 3.30.1-2ubuntu1.18.10.1 prevents DE access (unable to login)
Public bug reported: An upgrade to gnome-shell on 18.10 was recently released which made it impossible for me to log in to my DE. Upon typing my password, the gdm screen would disappear, only to re-appear a few seconds later. This was not a password typo as I didn't get the usual msg to that effect (I made at least 5 attempts, carefully typing my passwd). I solved the issue by switching to a terminal screen (using CTRL+ALT+F6 I believe), logging in, analyzing recent changes through /var/log/apt/history.log. Beside the gnome-shell packages, a handful of Wayland packages were also upgraded as follows (I use X.org so left those alone): Start-Date: 2018-12-19 09:13:20 Commandline: aptdaemon role='role-commit-packages' sender=':1.8821' Upgrade: libwayland-egl1:amd64 (1.16.0-1ubuntu1, 1.16.0-1ubuntu1.1), keybase:amd64 (2.11.0-20181204152506.f11f4191e3, 2.13.0-20181218221625.d72e065cbe), gnome-tweak-tool:amd64 (3.30.1-1, 3.30.2-0ubuntu1), gnome-tweaks:amd64 (3.30.1-1, 3.30.2-0ubuntu1), libwayland-client0:amd64 (1.16.0-1ubuntu1, 1.16.0-1ubuntu1.1), gnome-shell-common:amd64 (3.30.1-2ubuntu1, 3.30.1-2ubuntu1.18.10.1), gnome-shell:amd64 (3.30.1-2ubuntu1, 3.30.1-2ubuntu1.18.10.1), libwayland-server0:amd64 (1.16.0-1ubuntu1, 1.16.0-1ubuntu1.1), libwayland-cursor0:amd64 (1.16.0-1ubuntu1, 1.16.0-1ubuntu1.1) End-Date: 2018-12-19 09:13:31 I solved the issue by downgrading the just-updated gnome-shell packages as follows: sudo apt install gnome-shell-common=3.30.1-2ubuntu1 gnome- shell=3.30.1-2ubuntu1 Having done this, I switched back to the GDM screen and managed to log in as normal. I couldn't find any smoking gun in system logs but please let me know if there's a way to collect any useful debug info. One thing I'm using which differs from stock 18.10 is the System76 "Pop" theme (let me know if you need details).
