[Bug 1812359] Re: Cannot install Ubuntu 18.04 in Intel Atom D425
Thanks. There are two points of interest in that log I can see: Jan 29 09:45:01 test /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[656]: (II) intel(0): resizing framebuffer to 2732x768 Jan 29 09:45:01 test /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[656]: (II) intel(0): switch to mode 1366x768@60.4 on LVDS1 using pipe 1, position (0, 0), rotation normal, reflection none Jan 29 09:45:02 test /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[656]: (II) intel(0): switch to mode 1366x768@59.8 on VGA1 using pipe 0, position (1366, 0), rotation normal, reflection none and Jan 29 09:45:51 test gnome-shell[931]: Skipping layers 1..n of your pipeline since the first layer is sliced. We don't currently support any multi-texturing with sliced textures but assume layer 0 is the most important to keep Both of these suggest the problem is that gnome-shell is trying and failing to render across two screens (2732x768) because the code that's meant to handle that for older GPUs like this is not well tested (no developers use that kind of hardware). As a workaround ~~~ Please just unplug your second monitor and leave it unplugged. The system should work fine with just a single monitor. In fact, please reinstall again without ever plugging in that second monitor and everything should just work. As a permanent fix ~~ I think this is probably one of the bugs that Gert van der Kraats has been working on recently: bug 1790525 or bug 1795774. The fix for those has only been in 19.04 for a couple of days so please try live booting 19.04 (http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/) and tell us if that seems to fix the problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm3 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1812359 Title: Cannot install Ubuntu 18.04 in Intel Atom D425 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1812359/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1812359] Re: Cannot install Ubuntu 18.04 in Intel Atom D425
Thanks but you seem to have made the same mistake again. That log is from recovery mode so is not useful: Jan 29 09:40:28 test kernel: Command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-4.15.0-44-generic root=UUID=1b38a9ba- d9c9-4b85-a152-b5f2cbc9aa98 ro recovery nomodeset Using 'nomodeset' is a workaround, and one that will prevent normal graphics modes from working. [Bug 1813385] Re: Pressing Super+1..9 should switch to the last used window of the application
** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Wishlist ** Description changed: + https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/issues/937 + + --- + In my daily work, I save a lot of time[1] by using Super+1...9 to switch to windows. When an application has more than one window (you see 1+ dots next to its icon in the task bar), and the user presses Super+N, Unity would switch to the last used window of the application. This was great, because users typically switch more often between the same two apps, e.g. an IDE and a browser window for web app development, or a browser window and another app for data input etc. GNOME on the other hand, does not switch to the last used among the windows when you press Super+N. It forces you to pick one of the windows, every single time. Screenshot: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome- shell/uploads/9f1cd1e982b051147390466b4a6a3621/image.png If you have multiple windows per app (very common with browsers in productivity scenarios), this negates the speed advantage of switching via Super + numbers in the first place. You have to navigate with the arrow keys (the mouse is out of the question if you care about speed), then press Enter. Also, pressing Num Enter doesn't do anything. Can there please be an option to enable simply switching to the last used window of that application? [Bug 1813431] [NEW] Problem with gnome panel system menu
You have been subscribed to a public bug: When I clicked on the start menu in the top right corner, that little window jumped out, and. when I wanted to lock my account, nothing happened, but when I clicked on that panel again, it was like... vibrating... It was moving up and down about 10px (If I remember well). When I left it be and came back later (I have automatic lock after 5 min) There was that menu on the left (I don't know the name :D) After I logged in, I noticed, that when I move my mouse on it, it becomes wider and icons go slightly further apart(When I'm on desktop). When I have Firefox window opened, same happens, but when I aim on Firefox icon, the icons go to normal distance, but bar is still wider. Please try uninstalling extension 'workspace- g...@mathematical.coffee.gmail.com' and any other thirdparty extensions by removing/renaming /home/henger/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/ If the problem then still persists after rebooting, please follow these instructions: 1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. 3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself. ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1813310 Title: Unable to login! gnome-shell: Execution of main.js threw exception: Script terminated with an uncatchable exception To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1813310/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1753070] Re: Cannot restore default alert sound (Ubuntu bell)
This bug is there for years, in fact for as long as I remember seeing this software around (so, maybe 10 years on Ubuntu?). It bothered me a lot (like a scratch on a brand new car or high tech device), and I always thought "well it's an obvious bug, it will be fixed soon, as everyone else will notice it and will be bothered by it (so that they will report it)". Well it turns out that nobody cares, because it's been 10 years and I could never find a solution over the internet. Up to today, I just found one: to set the default sound back, you need "dconf" and in "/org/gnome/desktop/sound/theme-name" you right-click and select "set to default value" (which appears to be "ubuntu" on Ubuntu). And voilà! --- What the bug really consists of, is that in "gnome-control-center" when selecting "default" for the sound event, it does not set the default value, but it sets "freedesktop" (which probably in some cases might be right, but generally is not, like on Ubuntu). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1753070 Title: Cannot restore default alert sound (Ubuntu bell) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1753070/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1813674] [NEW] gnome-shell freezes unexpectedly and crashes afterward killing all other applications
Public bug reported: There were many programs open as the crash occurs. There were lots of terminal windows, thunderbird, firefox, pidgin, gedit, thunar, nemo, synergy, transmission, solar, nextcloud and GNOME system monitor and maybe more open. Then I was opening a popup window and the shell froze except the mouse cursor which was responsive as always. After a while the system presents me a fresh gnome login screen. Very annoying... [Bug 1359896] Re: nautilus crashes after sshfs disconnects
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps: 1. ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1359896 Title: nautilus crashes after sshfs disconnects To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1359896/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1573728] Re: Files opened with gedit on command line no longer open within the existing gedit session
That will only come out with newer gnome versions, so this would only be fixed in 20.04 if you're using LTS releases. [Bug 1813441] Re: Can no longer drag and drop files from desktop into applications
>you can still dnd from a nautilus view on the desktop Right, because it's not like the reason why I put files on my Desktop is because I use them often and want to be able to open quickly, or like having to open a Nautilus window, click on Desktop, and then double- click on the file to open it is slower than just being able to open the file directly on the desktop. That's definitely not a stupid usability regression that anyone who keeps files on their desktops is going to notice right away. >or double click on the file so it's easy to workaround... Except that I frequently want to open files (images, text files) with something other than the default application, and double-clicking doesn't do that, and another thing that's missing from the extension is the "Open with other application" right-click menu command (https://gitlab.gnome.org/World/ShellExtensions/desktop- icons/issues/32). As one of my friends commented when I told him about all the absurd regressions introduced by ripping this code out of Nautilus and moving it to an incompletely implemented GNOME shell extension: #ThisIsWhyIUseKDE Frankly, I'm just about ready to switch myself. The penchant of GNOME's developers for regressing functionality because they don't seem to understand how people actually use their software is a long-standing, incredibly frustrating problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1813441 Title: Can no longer drag and drop files from desktop into applications To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons/+bug/1813441/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I think you mean to link this to https://gitlab.gnome.org/World/ShellExtensions/desktop-icons/issues/29? I question your designation of this as a "Low" importance issue.
