Mutter actually *does* support 10bpc, just not with zwp_linux_dmabuf_v1.
It seems that mesa will incorrectly try to use formats advertised by
wl_drm but not zwp_linux_dmabuf_v1.
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/merge_requests/4294 fixes
this for me.

Thank you for taking the time to report this crash and helping to make
this software better. This particular crash has already been reported
and is a duplicate of bug #1858414, so is being marked as such.
Please run this command while the bug is still assigned to xorg:
apport-collect 1868614
After that we should probably move it to gnome-shell.

Three different modes sounds confusing indeed. I suspect what you are
actually seeing is:
1. The login screen is 3840x2160 but scaled 2x to look like 1920x1080.
2. Successful login is 3840x2160 at scale 1x.
3. The desktop loads and your personal setting of 1920x1080 is used.

After successfully downgrading, I upgraded again to 1:13.99.1-1ubuntu1,

I wonder if simply reinstalling the pulseaudio packages instead of

To complicate matters, the fix for comment #3 has now landed in upstream
gnome-shell 3.36.1. So if we want we can say "Won't Fix" to the now
redundant Plymouth fix in comment #7. Or land both because it's more
robust to have two fixes (both would have to regress before you noticed
a regression).
Please also remember to keep all extensions uninstalled while
investigating leaks. We don't want to spend time finding leaks in
extensions unless they happen to be the default Ubuntu ones.
