[Bug 1874972] [NEW] Nautilus search in file names shows results from full text search

2020-04-24 Thread Andreas Tsourouflis
Public bug reported:

Nautilus full text search works fine. However, a search in file names
brings the same results as in full text search. The only difference is
that, in the file name mode, no text is shown beside the file name.

[Bug 1849426] Re: Daily Limit Exceeded error for Google calendar

2020-04-24 Thread Mike Graves
Problem exists only when email accounts are set up using the settings
feature and adding online accounts. If you add the email accounts
(Gmail) through the Evolution application then there is no problem. I
suspect the problem is with Gnome's online accounts through settings -
not Evolution's mail product. Hopefully this points you in the right
direction.

[Bug 1874950] [NEW] Steam is shown on Gnome as being "unknown" without any icon, even though the steam launcher is simply downloading an update and the icon appears on previous versions of Ubuntu

2020-04-24 Thread Seija Kijin
Public bug reported:

When I installed Steam, the launcher opened. However, instead of showing
the icon, which the Gnome launchpad did, the side-bar showed no icon and
only showed "Unknown" as the title, even though the window is titled
"steam".

To reproduce, simply download Steam from the steam website, run dpkg -i
on the deb, and run the launcher after downloading the prerequisites.

Sorry, I made a typo above: systemd.dsystemd.default_standard_output=kmsg ==>
systemd.default_standard_output=kmsg.
BTW, it looks systemd.show_status=true makes no difference for me. I don't see
any status info during the boot-up time -- not sure if I did something wrong.

[Bug 1848534] Re: [Microsoft Hyper-V guest] System shows graphic artifacts for a moment, then text cursor for about minute and then starts

2020-04-24 Thread Dexuan Cui
I don't have much knowledge bout systemd, either :-) I just did a "man
systemd" and found the options of systemd. "man systemd" says that we
can use pass these kernel parameters to systemd:

systemd.service_watchdogs=true systemd.show_status=true
systemd.log_level=debug systemd.dsystemd.default_standard_output=kmsg
systemd.default_standard_error=kmsg

I tried these by adding them into /boot/grub/grub.cfg manually, at the end of
the line "linux /boot/vmlinuz-5.3.0-23-generic ...".
I also replaced "quiet splash $vt_handoff" with "ignore_loglevel". So I can get
more messages from systemd, but not so much as I expected. Not sure if this
would be helpful to troubleshoot the long delay issue for you, and I'm not even
sure if I enabled the systemd loggong completely correctly -- again, I'm not
really familiar with systemd. :-)

To stop/disble a systemd "service", I think we can use something like this
(taking the setvtrgb.service as an example):
  systemctl stop setvtrgb.service
  systemctl disable setvtrgb.service
  systemctl status setvtrgb.service

2020-04-24 Thread Dexuan Cui
Since Alt-SysRq-w gives nothing, I'm sure the long delay is not a
kernel/driver issue but a user space issue. It looks due to some reason
I just can not reproduce the long delay. :-(

In the Hyper-V Virtual Machine Connection window's "View" menu, there is
an item "Enhanced Session". In my Ubuntu 19.10 VM created by "Quick
Create...", the xrdp daemon/service is configured to automatically run
during the boot-up procedure; I think as soon as the xrdp daemon starts
to run, the "Enhanced Session" item becomes clickable/usable, and I can
click it to toggle between "Enhanced Session" mode (i.e. xrdp mode) and
the native Xorg GUI mode; when I'm in the xrdp mode, I click VM
Connection window's Action | Shut Down, then Start, and the VM will boot
up to the xrdp login screen in about 14 seconds; when I'm in the Xorg
mode, I click Shutdown then Start, the VM will boot up to the Xorg GUI
desktop in about 30 seconds. If I shut down the VM, close the VM
Connection window, and start the VM and open VM Connection window, I'll
be prompted by a small pop-up window to choose a resolution when (I
think) the xrdp daemon starts to run: 1) if I click the close icon of
the small window, I'll be in the Xorg GUI mode; if I accept the default
resolution (or change to a different resolution) and click "connect" in
the small window, I'll be in the xrdp mode. So all these work pretty
good for me.

Note: after I just created the 19.10 VM by "Quick Create..." and set up
the host name and user name/password stuff, I rebooted the VM and when
the VM booted up, I found the "Enhanced Session" was not
clickable/usable -- this looks like a bug -- while I still don't know
the root cause, it looks this can be resolved by manually adding the
line "initrd/boot/initrd.img-5.3.0-23-generic #This line is
added by Dexuan manually" into "/boot/grub/grub.cfg":

menuentry 'Ubuntu' --class ubuntu --class gnu-linux --class gnu --class os
$menuentry_id_option 'gnulinux-simple-55829715-0091-4b86-b060-1cb88f342faf' {
...
if [ "${initrdfail}" = 1 ]; then
  linux /boot/vmlinuz-5.3.0-23-generic
root=PARTUUID=43e99d31-1277-402c-a13b-6cc8fb93169b ro  quiet splash $vt_handoff
  initrd/boot/initrd.img-5.3.0-23-generic
else
  linux /boot/vmlinuz-5.3.0-23-generic
root=PARTUUID=43e99d31-1277-402c-a13b-6cc8fb93169b ro  quiet splash $vt_handoff
panic=-1
  initrd/boot/initrd.img-5.3.0-23-generic #This line is added
by Dexuan manually!!!
fi
initrdfail
}

With the addition of the line, it looks "GRUB_TIMEOUT=0" in "/etc/default/grub"
is always really applied every time I reboot the VM.
Without the line, it looks sometimes the grub timeout is 30 second and
sometimes it's 0 second.
BTW, I reported a bug for the missing initrd line a few weeks ago for a
different issue: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1870189.

I suggest you also manually add the line, then I guess you should be
able to reliably toggle between xrdp mode and Xorg mode.

Note: "/boot/grub/grub.cfg" is overwritten when update-grub is run by us
or some automatic-update daemon, so we may want to check if the line is
still there when we see something unexpected (i.e. unable to use xrdp
mode, or see a grub timeout of 30s). I hope Bug 1870189 will be fixed by
somebody ASAP...

[Bug 1874914] Re: screen size too big / title bar on second screen

2020-04-24 Thread anderson.de...@gmail.com
Yes, my second screen (1920x1200) is rotated.

Bug #1874567 says the rotation doesn't work, that it stays in landscape.
My screen rotation does work correctly.

When using the nouveau drivers it never gets past the purple boot screen
(tho I can ssh in fine).

When I scroll to the right, the title bar lines up correctly to the
first screen. (Another pic attached.) Notice also the backgrounds
overlap.

Thanks for the reply.

The relevant journactl output (at least from what I can guess) follows,
I attached both full command outputs as txt files. It reconnects because
you have to change from no data transfer to file transfer in the android
settings, but I did the same in 18.04 and it worked there.

[Bug 1866194] Re: External audio device shows up in the sound output options but the sound keeps being emitted from the internal laptop speaker, or none at all.

2020-04-24 Thread David Bridson
I'm experiencing the same problem on a fresh install of Ubuntu Mate
20.04 on a Dell XPS 13 9350.

Sound works correctly using the internal speakers. If you plug in analog
headphones to the 3.5mm jack, there is no sound from the headphones or
the internal speakers. All relevant options are unmuted in Sound
Settings. The Speaker Test exhibits the same behaviour.

Analog headphones worked correctly on this system under 18.04.

[Bug 1871359] Re: Ubuntu Cant switch languages- shortcut alt+shift doesnt work

> Well cant switch keyboard

If you have added some keyboard layout(s), so you have two or more
layouts available, I'm pretty sure you can switch between them using the
default shortcut + (or by using the input source menu in
the top bar).

> and default in other OS is left sides alt+shift

In Ubuntu/GNOME it's not. But, as I explained in a previous comment,
there is a way to make + work.

I don't see a bug here, so closing. If you need help with using Ubuntu,
please seek support in for instance some of the places mentioned here:

2020-04-24 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Thanks, now I understand. If the Latvian locale has been generated, the
Latvian layouts are not shown under "Other", but a Latvian item should
be shown in one of the previous views.

Can you please let us know the output of this terminal command:

locale -a | grep ^lv

[Bug 1874886] [NEW] Ubuntu 20.04 I cannot set different default application for .zip and .mcsz files

2020-04-24 Thread Vijay
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 20.04 I cannot set different default application for .zip and
.mcsz files

I right click a .zip file in Nautilus, go to "Properties" and choose
Archive Manager, but now the OS will try to open all my .mcsz files with
Archive Manager. I right click a .mcsz file and select MuseScore, now
all .zip files open in MuseScore (error).

I would ideally like to open .zip files with Archive Manager and .mcsz
files with MuseScore by default. Is this fixable or a bug?

Thank you,
Vijay

RE: [Bug 1848534] Re: [Microsoft Hyper-V guest] System shows graphic artifacts for a moment, then text cursor for about minute and then starts

2020-04-24 Thread Matthew Swift
I followed your instructions of 4/21 regarding changing kernel
parameters and attaching PuTTY etc. Screenshot of the edited parameters
is next to your email attached (if attachment won't get published, I
will post online). I can send the PuTTY output, but I don't think we
learned anything we didn't already see in dmesg. Console login prompt
comes up quickly, then the long delay in the Hyper-V Connection window
before arriving at the Xorg GUI login. Alt-SysRq-w during this time
gives nothing, just two lines like these:

[ 70.428525] sysrq: Show Blocked State
[ 70.429990] taskPC stack pid father

While doing this, I noticed today that some previously reliable ways to
get to the "shortcut boot" (the XRDP login screen, which comes up
quickly, instead of waiting for the Xorg screen) were no longer reliable
(e.g., sometimes "power off" force in Hyper-V Manager and restart led to
a long boot). I also discovered a state in which starting the VM from an
"off" state in Hyper-V Manager apparently skipped even the Grub screen
and went quickly to XRDP login screen. At this point I rebooted the
host. Some deep kind of Windows caching going on? After reboot,
behaviors earlier described became predictable again.

Three questions:

1) You wrote on 4/22 (second mail): "I also tried xrdp mode and the VM
booted up to the xrdp login window in 14 seconds, which is faster than
the "native Xorg GUI mode" (which needs 30s)". How did you intentionally
"try XRDP mode"? How do you have any control over whether you get the
XRDP or Xorg login screen? It seems to me I do not have any control.
>From a user's perspective, that is the whole problem here, how to get
the XRDP login screen on first startup (and all subsequent) of a 19.10
VM within a given Hyper-V Connection window. As shown earlier, when the
user gets the XRDP login, the (presumably) same processes are still
being delayed for the same length of time as when the user is forced to
wait for the Xorg login screen, but the user has meanwhile been able to
log in via XRDP and begin doing his or her work. Furthermore, screen
size control and cut-and-paste from guest to host are available only
with the XRDP login. From user's perspective, I think the problem is
solved once user can log into the VM and start working without waiting
for a 90s timeout, and screen size control and cut-paste are
operational. Which in my case seems to be equivalent to being able to
get the XRDP login screen reliably; if I get it, it always arrives
quickly.

2) You wrote on 4/21: "It looks systemd can be configured to use
"--log-level=debug --default- standard-output=kmsg --default-standard-
error=kmsg". Please advise me how to do this. I administered Debian
systems from Buzz (1996) to Squeeze (2011), and a lot of the boot
process is new to me. (In those days, one had to use Ctrl-S / Ctrl-Q to
be able to read booting output.)

3) You wrote on 4/22: "I'm wondering if you can disable
setvtrgb.service, system-getty.slice, systemd-update-utmp-
runlevel.service, and plymouth-quit-wait.service, and see if the long
delay will disappear. I guess these 4 services don't look critical to
the GUI desktop." Likewise, please advise me *how* to disable them. I've
been trying unsuccessfully to disable Ubuntu automatic updates (in
another VM, not the one I am testing) and have concluded that I really
do not understand any of this newfangled .service stuff. (And I
shouldn't have to, to achieve that objective, but that is a different
gripe.)

[Bug 1874848] [NEW] Opening folders lead to ghost pages to be created

2020-04-24 Thread jkelol111 [Nam]
Public bug reported:

When opening folders, the shell creates many ghost pages (demo attached
in webm format). Clicking on the page 'dots' doesn't do anything for the
ghost pages.

Disabling remember-app-usage solves this bug, because it removes the
Frequents/All apps tab at the bottom of the application menu that seems
to be 'clashing' with the folder display.

Display resolution is 1366x768 on a 14 inch laptop display. Laptop is
the HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 14-ba0xx using Intel HD Graphics 620.

This bug did not occur under GNOME 3.34 on Ubuntu 19.10, where this
current install was upgraded from. This also occurs on fresh
installations of Ubuntu 20.04.

Moreover, while not possibly directly related to this issue, the app
running dots below the app names don't have enough padding and clash
with the text (screenshot attached).

[Bug 1872796] Re: gnome-shell animations are noticeably stuttery when the Ubuntu extensions are enabled

2020-04-24 Thread Carlos Pita
Further investigation shows that using linux-5.5 (from
https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.5/) has a very
positive impact on performance and gnome-session/Wayland becomes
comparable with Arch and Fedora. At least this points to a definite
cause, but it's somewhat of a sad outcome since LTS comes with 5.4.

@vanvugt, do you think I should open a new ticket more specifically
focused in the overview animation? Moreover, I don't think my issues are
related to Ubuntu extensions, at least not mainly or clearly related to
them.

[Bug 1874835] [NEW] gdm3 hangs after entering password with automounting network share

2020-04-24 Thread spi
Public bug reported:

Whether I am using autofs or systemd automount units to mount network
shares (mainly cifs), gdm3 hangs regularly as soon my notebook returns
from suspend mode and the user enters their password.

With automount being disabled gdm3 doesn't hang.

1) lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS
Release:18.04

2) gdm3:
  Installiert: 3.28.3-0ubuntu18.04.4
gnome-shell:
  Installiert: 3.28.4-0ubuntu18.04.3

3) I'd expect to gdm3 to login the user after authenticating the user.

4) gdm3 hangs after the user typed in their password.

Steps to reproduce - as an example a samba network share gets mounted in
/shares/transfer:

a) The notebook is connected to network via ethernet.
b) Network share gets mounted by automounter (eg. ls /shares/transfer).
c) As soon the share is mounted suspend the notebook.
d) Disconnect ethernet (eg. undocking the notebook).
e) Power on the notebook (in undocked state with no ethernet connected).
f) Whether the notebook has a wifi connection or not, after typing in the
password, gdm3 hangs. tty logins still possible, hanging automounter connection
is to see.

My current workaround:
I am using a systemd unit to unmount all automatically mounted network shares.
Additional NetworkManager dispatcher script kills network connection to file
server in case network device changes with automounts being active.

[Bug 1874818] [NEW] Please pull Mutter/Wayland fixes for desktop freeze

2020-04-24 Thread Ppaalanen
Public bug reported:

I have upstreamed a GNOME/Wayland desktop freeze fix in:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/merge_requests/1209 (master)
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/merge_requests/1215 (3.36 branch)
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/merge_requests/1216 (3.34 branch)

I diagnosed the freeze on Mutter 3.34 Ubuntu 19.10 flavour first, with
DisplayLink hardware. Any DRM driver that may temporarily fail
drmModePageFlip() calls might trigger this.

I triggered the freeze particularly by trying to make a DisplayLink
output the only active output via GNOME display settings. Other triggers
are possible.

This fix may help with
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1853357 but I
don't know for sure.

[Bug 1630417] Re: the control center chokes on initial number in user name

2020-04-24 Thread Josep Lladonosa Capell
I come from just trying to document the same bug (I searched first to
check something similar but did not find it)

The GUI to add a user in Ubuntu allows a username beginning with a number
(checked appears ok but call to user creation fails).
The reason is that the called Perl script adduser does not accept it. This
script is configurable in /etc/adduser.conf:

  # check user and group names also against this regular expression.
  #NAME_REGEX="^[a-z][-a-z0-9_]*\$"

As it is commented out, (same) value is taken from
  /usr/share/perl5/Debian/AdduserCommon.pm:

  $configref->{"name_regex"} = "^[a-z][-a-z0-9_]*\$";

  To solve this, you could:

  - validate only names matching the expression.

  - modify /etc/adduser.conf with another NAME_REGEX to fit Ubuntu's policies
(in this case, adduser would be affected, too).

Added to this, in a root terminal, adduser/passwd allow any password.
This GUI limits this possibility (for security matters, that is ok, but IMHO
user creating an account from GUI should behave "like root").

Is is it possible that shift-alt-TAB can create
strange sound lag while alt-TAB doesn't?

Sometimes it is noticeable that sounds
lags if you this key combo which
shouldn't be the case.

[Bug 1874713] [NEW] Instabilities when returning from idle mode and delay when detecting bluetooth peripherals

2020-04-24 Thread Edson T. Marques
Public bug reported:

I have noticed instabilities in my bluetooth, mouse and keyboard, whenever I
return to my desk I go back to using my notebook that went into idle mode. In
addition, I realize that when turning on the computer and entering the Ubuntu
login interface, there is a relevant delay before the bluetooth peripherals
(mouse and keyboard) are detected. The time difference is very relevant
compared to what happened at Eoan.
Whenever I leave the idle mode, the mouse pointer became slow, with unstable
and heavy movements. The keyboard also has erratic and strange functioning.
I have an old sony vaio notebook and use a wireless keyboard and mouse
communicating directly with the notebook's bluetooth without the need for
adapters (dongle). The Mouse is an original sony vaio that I bought with the
notebook, the keyboard, unlike, was recently purchased.
For now the workaround solution I've been applying is to turn bluetooth off and
on again, through the gnome configuration panel. In fact, whenever I do this,
there is again a long delay before the peripherals are detected. I need to keep
moving the mouse for about 10 to 20 seconds for detection to occur. I need to
type on the keyboard many times until detection occurs.

[Bug 1874688] [NEW] cannot add a user with username beginning with a number

2020-04-24 Thread Josep Lladonosa Capell
Public bug reported:

The GUI to add a user in Ubuntu allows a username beginning with a number
(checked appears ok but call to user creation fails).
The reason is that the called Perl script adduser does not accept it. This
script is configurable in /etc/adduser.conf:

# check user and group names also against this regular expression.
#NAME_REGEX="^[a-z][-a-z0-9_]*\$"

As it is commented out, (same) value is taken from
/usr/share/perl5/Debian/AdduserCommon.pm:

$configref->{"name_regex"} = "^[a-z][-a-z0-9_]*\$";

[Bug 1874684] [NEW] "Show on" setting does nothing in dual-monitor setup

2020-04-24 Thread Maximilian Federle
Public bug reported:

I have two identical monitors that appear with the same name in
settings: Dell Inc. 25"

In the appearance settings I have three options for "Show on":

- All displays
- Dell Inc. 25"
- Dell Inc. 25"

If I want to restrict the dock to one monitor only by switch from "All
displays" to either one of the two "Dell Inc. 25"", nothing changes; the
dock is still shown on both monitors.

Gnome-shell itself has no problems differentiating both monitors and
displays its top-panel only on the primary one.

[Bug 1871913] Re: super key does not work with secondary keyboard layout

2020-04-24 Thread Pedro Teixeira
I am facing the same problem.
Can confirm that only input 1 works regardless of language. And that keyboard
shortcuts with Super work regardless.

Here is my extra 2 cents:

When I go into 'Show keyboard layout' to see which keypresses are registered,
the left super key is not registered but the right one is.

One more thing: if I change the activities overview to be triggered by the
right super key instead of left (via gnome-tweaks), then the left super key
will be registered but the right super key will not.

Yes, sounds pretty much like it. I have two keyboard layouts configured
(German and Catalan). Now I realized that the Super key works when the
active layout is the same as the top one in the Region & Language
settings. If I change the order in the settings dialog, then it will
work only for the language that was moved to the top.

[Bug 1874655] [NEW] After suspend / resume, WiFi does not reconnect automatically to an hidden access point

2020-04-24 Thread Alan AZZERA
Public bug reported:

After letting my laptop go to sleep, the WiFi does not reconnect anymore
to an hidden access point. I must go to the WiFi settings window, then
go to the menu where hidden networks are... hidden, and force Network
Manager to connect to the hidden AP. Note that I don't have any problem
on boot. Just when resuming for suspend mode.

This is a rather recent issue, which I never encountered before these
past months. I cannot qualify exactly the time where the bug occurred.

[Bug 1874345] Re: Gnome shell x11 freez after waking from off-locked-screen

2020-04-24 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug report. Was it a one time issue or can you
trigger it again?

Could youa dd your 'journalctl -b 0' log after getting the issue (and
note the time where the bug happened to help reading the log)

The report also shows you have some extensions activated, could you try
without those? especially windowIsReady_Remover is logging some errors

[Bug 1874626] Re: dav path not complete

2020-04-24 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1873658] Re: Deb Files are not associated with an application that manages packages

2020-04-24 Thread Iain Lane
We discussed this a bit amongst the release team, and there was a
concern that this might not work properly for flavours - which I think
that Ken believes is fine, but it would be good to actually verify
explicitly.

So please could you flesh out the description to fit the SRU template,
and add a test case which makes sure to check all of these mime types
for flavours which still seed gnome-software (e.g. boot live session,
install -proposed update, try to open each of those mime types).

[Bug 1872796] Re: gnome-shell animations are noticeably stuttery when the Ubuntu extensions are enabled

2020-04-24 Thread Carlos Pita
I've been doing some testing and disabling panel self refresh (PSR) on
the Intel driver seems to help quite a lot with frame dropping in X11,
this is a known fact for the Matebook Pro, at least for Windows. Still
not perfect, still a bit of stuttering, but an improvement anyway.

[Bug 1874583] Re: Setting fractional scaling beyond 125% causes segfault

2020-04-24 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1874626] [NEW] dav path not complete

2020-04-24 Thread AdlerHorst
Public bug reported:

If I open this kind of path (Nextcloud):
davs://{SERVER}/remote.php/dav/files/{USER@DOMAIN}

Nautilus shows me the correct directory but setup the rootpath to
davs://{SERVER}/remote.php/dav/

The Problem is, that I'n not able to use the mounted path for anything
because I'm not able to navigate into the directory /files/

Please change behavior that way that if I enter a directory path to open
a path, it should be set as the route of the Mount in whole.
