The bug is also present in 20.04. I got it after a system resume from

[Bug 1874262] Re: User session does not start: Problem with chrome-remote-desktop

2020-05-15 Thread Erik Jensen
After some further testing, fixing the GDM bug allows logging into both
X11 and Wayland on 19.10 while Chrome Remote Desktop is running, but on
20.04, I cannot start a Wayland while CRD is running (X11 still works
once the GDM fix is applied).

Taking a brief look at the logs, it appears there is a separate but
similar bug with how Gnome Shell attempts to determine its seat when
running as a Systemd user service. My guess it that it is finding the
CRD session, which doesn't have a seat, instead of its own, and then
failing.

[Bug 269441] Re: Trash always full

2020-05-15 Thread Endriux
Linux Mint 19.3 Cinnamon - This issue has plagued me since I decided to share
an entire volume over my home network with samba.
One day, I noticed the sharing emblem on the volume's .Trash-1000 icon.
Thus I right-clicked on it -> Properties -> Share tab, I switched off sharing
of .Trash-1000 folder and BOOM! The issue disappeared.
Strangely, the sharing emblem was just on .Trash-1000 icon.
Just for the record, the "indicted" volume is formatted to ntfs.

[Bug 1878670] Re: Gnome crash frequently

2020-05-15 Thread Kurt Aaholst
Hi,

Thanks for the fast responses.

I have tried to collect the requested information but:

1) There are no files in /var/crash

2) The only item in https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/8dfc634ec... is:

https://errors.ubuntu.com/oops/6c75c4c0-8996-11ea-a340-fa163e6cac46

3) I commented out line23 :"'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package']," from
/etc/apport/crashdb.conf, rebooted and managed to reproduce the crash.
(it's not easily reproducible, or at least I haven't found out how to
reliably reproduce). But still no files in var/crash.

I also tried "apport-collect 1878670" (with and without sudo):

[Bug 1878275] Re: wayland session hard freezes on login from GDM (X11 session works fine)

2020-05-15 Thread John Jacob
Daniel,

I reproduced the same issue in a VM in post #4, and I gave you the steps
to reproduce it. I strongly suggest you *try* it. It is trivially
simple, takes less than five minutes to reproduce, or 15 minutes tops if
you want to spin up a new VM. This is exactly the same issue that I saw
on my laptop.

The reason I reproduced this on a VM was to confirm that the issue could
be seen on other machines, and to give you an easily reproducible test
case, so that you can confirm the bug and move it the right team to
investigate.

Otherwise, we can keep repeating this dance of asking for more information and
moving the bug back to incomplete, but this does nothing to advance our mutual
goal of helping make Ubuntu better.

[Bug 1872364] Re: Launchpad translations are not exported back to the snap package

2020-05-15 Thread AsciiWolf
Simos, the "Permissions" string translation is now correctly applied in
Snap Store, however the "_Permissions" string one is not although the
string is available and translated on Launchpad
(https://translations.launchpad.net/snap-store). Here is a new ticket
for this issue: https://bugs.launchpad.net/snap-store/+bug/1878672

[Bug 1874217] Re: [nvidia] Dual monitor setup with secondary monitor in portrait-right mode cause tiled windows to occupy 1.5 monitors

2020-05-15 Thread Chris Seager
An amendment to my previous post re selecting "say" File. Some
applications ie. Arduino IDE behave correctly (e.g. selecting File
produces a dropdown immediately under the File option in the same
screen) whereas other apps ie. OpenOffice causes the dropdown under File
to open in the other screen.

Re: [Bug 1876286] Re: Evolution reports "Error performing TLS handshake: Internal error in memory allocation."

2020-05-15 Thread Martin Althoff
It is obviously related to yahoo for all of us, but that does not mean
Yahoo caused it.

While it might be that Yahoo has done some changes, I have other mail clients
(Thunderbird
on Ubuntu, K9 on Android, Mailmate on Mac) that have not been updated and have
had no
problem with yahoo. We are very specifically looking at Evolution in relation
to Yahoo.

Two mere suspicions, and I have no way to check due to lack of knowledge, a)
there was an
update on Ubuntu that caused the issue. b) indeed, yahoo did some changes, but
they were
no problem before. Whatever library in the background handles this, worked fine
so far,
but could not cope with this hypothetical change. Then it must be that
Thunderbird works
differently.

cheers, Martin

[Bug 1878956] [NEW] Shutdown continues even after cancelled by application

2020-05-15 Thread Timur Tabi
Public bug reported:

1. Open a text editor of any kind and edit any document. Do not save
2. Initiate a shutdown from the GUI menu
3. The application will prompt you save because it's being closed. Select
"cancel" to abort the save and close. The file won't be saved and the
application will not close.
4. After a few seconds, the computer will immediately shut down, losing your
document changes.

This means that when a shutdown is initiated, there's nothing the user
can do to abort the shutdown.

What should have happened is that Ubuntu should have noticed that the
shutdown was cancelled. That's how Windows and Mac works.

[Bug 1878285] Re: gnome-control-center crashes on setting up fingerprint

While g-c-c should probably not crash on errors, the main issue here is
indeed that fprintd crashes, and given that the enroll UI is still
something going to be deprecated so it's not worth to fix in here IMHO.

What we do need to fix is libfprint, so moving the bug there instead.

Re: [Bug 1852183] Re: [X11] copy/paste (clipboard) is broken in Ubuntu 19.10 & 20.04 (see comment 93)

2020-05-15 Thread Heikki Moisander
I updated proposed mutter 3.36.2 and tried Libreoffice Calc sheet copy -
paste, cut - paste in pretty much same way with the same pc I did at the
time I reported the bug - only few times more.
I did not run into error. I don't have any need for extensive copy - paste
activity any time soon, so will not get any additional testing done.

[Bug 1878933] [NEW] Lock screen ignores user input for a few seconds after "Please try again" message

2020-05-15 Thread Bart Schuurmans
Public bug reported:

When I try to unlock my PC from the lock screen, I sometimes enter the
wrong password. After checking the password (which takes ~1s), the lock
screen displays the following message:

"Sorry, that didn't work. Please try again."

For ~2s after that, keyboard input is ignored, which means that if you
start typing you password immediately after reading the "try again"
prompt, the first few characters are discarded and your password is
incorrect again.

This is a bad user experience, and I'm not sure what the purpose of the
delay is.

[Bug 1876286] Re: Evolution reports "Error performing TLS handshake: Internal error in memory allocation."

2020-05-15 Thread richard
This same problem started the first week of May with my IMAP+ AT "Error
performing TLS handshake: ..."
Ubuntu Mate 16 Evolution 3.18.5.2-0ubuntu3.2

Sending SMTP still works.

Reading through the posts it's clear that it's a Yahoo issue since Yahoo
manages AT, AOL, Verizon and Yahoo mail and those are the only ones
affected.

Why has no fix-update been created yet?
It's not like people are so swamped with work they don't have time to.

[Bug 1878490] Re: Big delay between pressing the applications grid icon in dock and the start of the spring animation

2020-05-15 Thread Nicolás Abel Carbone
Done, here is the settings.txt

Oddly, while doing this I noticed that some extensions that I
uninstalled long ago (even before upgrading to 20.04) where marked as
active by gsettings. Pop-shell and cast-to-tv for example. I had to
manually remove their entries using dconf.

I will run in this configuration for a while and see if the bug is still
present.

[Bug 1878906] [NEW] copy/paste (clipboard) is broken in Ubuntu 18.04

2020-05-15 Thread Manfred Steiner
Public bug reported:

Since 10 days copy/paste does not work as expected. As far as I have
observed, the bug covers all applications, which are using system
clipboard to copy and paste data. A very good example is the usage of
LibreOffice Calc. You can copy some cells, which are marked with a
blinking border, but you cannot paste the content otherwhere. Most of
time, copying multiple times solves the problems, but that is not
acceptable.

Maybe, the root cause is identical to bug #1852183 ([X11] copy/paste
(clipboard) is broken in Ubuntu 19.10 & 20.04 (see comment 93))

[Bug 1876908] Re: Screen not locked after resume from suspend

2020-05-15 Thread Julien Olivier
I found the problem (and the solution ;)).

It's actually the org.gnome.desktop.lockdown disable-lock-screen
gesettings key that's been set to "true". No idea how it got set to
"true" though because i never changed it, and it used to work before.
Apparently, I'm not the only one in this case:

After doing manual dconf cleanup, I've been unable to reproduce the
issue. That's since posting the previous comment, so a few days now. So
I think I'll hold off on reporting this upstream for the time being, but

[Bug 1878567] Re: gnome-software crashes with segmentation fault error

2020-05-15 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1878718] Re: Hotkey for switching display output unusable due to switching to next option immediately after release

2020-05-15 Thread Frank Blah
The Super+P shortcut works! In the report, I used a dedicated fn key
(situated on F1). With Super+P, the selection is confirmed when Super is
released. That probably causes the bug when using the single fn key.

2020-05-15 Thread Per-Inge
I don't know if this is related. It seems I always get a crash either when I
start suspend or when I return from suspend. When I send the crash report
launchpad don't open. The crash is in gnome-shell and the crash message is
"gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in_st_theme_node_ensure_background()".
It might be related to my installation and I will reinstall Focal later today.

[Bug 1877553] Re: wifi gets automatically disabled when screen is locked and can be enabled only after a reboot.

2020-05-15 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I am talking about a physical switch or key on the laptop. That
shouldn't be possible to automatically revert. Tap the wifi key on the
laptop and then the toggle switch in gnome-shell should work. Even if it
doesn't, when 'rfkill' shows 'HARD' = 'blocked' then that's a hardware
problem and we can't solve it in gnome-shell. Although it *might* be a
kernel bug after that. More likely you just need to press the wifi key
on your keyboard and then also turn it on inside gnome-shell.

The toggle switch isn't working too, it automatically reverts back to
disabled mode if you try to enable it.
