Thanks. I thought just replacing gnutls-bin would be enough. Now that I've updated all three .deb files, Evolution is once again pulling emails, etc from my ISP's rogers-yahoo server! @sil2100 - I'm able to confirm the bionic-proposed updates worked for pop connections to pop.verizon.net on port 995. I started with a fresh install of Ubuntu 18.04 and applied all updates except proposed. As expected gnutls-cli and evolution returned the error. I also tried www.yahoo.com:443 www.google.com:443 www.microsoft.com:443 and www.cnn.com:443 as regression tests. All tests connected to the server and started simple client mode. [Bug 1849142] Re: appindicator extension slows down GUI spamming the log with "[AppIndicatorSupport-FATAL] unable to lookup icon ..." or "Impossible to lookup icon"
I reported this issue on the GNOME Shell GitLab: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/2908 Thanks to @vanvugt over there for the explanation, this appears to be the crux of the issue: > Although the simple act of logging to the disk can also cause such problems. > If you write anything to the disk more than once every 5 seconds then every 5 > seconds it will block while the kernel (ext4) flushes the journal. > So make sure you're not doing anything that causes regular log messages (run > journalctl -f). This means that there is a bug in both the AppIndicator extension and GJS. AppIndicator should not be erroring out when it encounters this, and GJS (which provides the native method for log and error output) should not write to the journalctl log this frequently to avoid huge journal flushes to disk. ** Bug watch added: gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues #2908 https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/2908 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell-extension-appindicator in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1849142 Title: appindicator extension slows down GUI spamming the log with "[AppIndicatorSupport-FATAL] unable to lookup icon ..." or "Impossible to lookup icon" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell-extension-appindicator/+bug/1849142/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1058515] Re: inheriting environmental variables when creating new terminal window or tab
I just tried switching from xfce4-terminal to gnome-terminal, only to discover that new tabs spawned via Ctrl+Shift+T (or File->New Tab) in the latter fail to inherit my session's $SSH_AUTH_SOCK or $SSH_AGENT_PID. The second-best workaround is indeed to only spawn new tabs via "gnome- terminal --tab", but that's a bit unwieldy and it's not quite the same (the new tab inherits the environment of the shell running that command, which may have changed from the session environment), so I'm afraid the best workaround was to switch back to xfce4-terminal... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1058515 Title: inheriting environmental variables when creating new terminal window or tab To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/1058515/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Ah, sorry. Yes, if you rebuild the focal package with f56a65f and use openssl, then connectivity and file transfers work correctly. There does not appear to be any other changes required. I can't vouch for all the functionality, of course. The device backup functionality seems popular, but I don't use it. I've tried doing a device backup and that seems fine, but I'm not going to attempt to restore it. :-) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to libimobiledevice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1854403 Title: Need updated libimobiledevice and dependencies to access iOS 13 devices To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libimobiledevice/+bug/1854403/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1807056] Re: Occasional Keyboard freeze
This is the main reason i quit Ubuntu. The bug was always there since I begun with 18.04 and my workaround was to press the power key on my laptop and click cancel when shutdown window appears. It was taking away from professional feel of a computer and making it feel like a 2013 smart phone. I believe one of the reasons not a lot of people report this issue is because they silently read forum posts that have no resolution for about 2 years and then go install another distro like I did. It's sad that Ubuntu had a few other bugs that were appearantly experienced by a very few people, therefore never getting really addressed; like this keyboard bug will be ignored on this page as it have been the last 2 years. [Bug 1812883] Re: Desktop view flashes every time ~/Desktop changes
This bug is still present in Focal. It seems to have lost focus in upstream. In Focal it is much harder to remove the extension as it is even more tightly linked in as a mandatory dependency for a number of major system components. The only way to remove it is by deleting or renaming its files. It seems to me that this extension is responsible for numerous performance issues. A number of bugs have been raised on different symptoms, but all have a common factor of impacting performance and involving this extension. May I suggest that an umbrella bug is created and named something like "Unacceptable Gnome shell perfomance" and marked as critical. The first priority is to make this extension optional and disabled by default. The process of enabling should warn of potential performance issues. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1812883 Title: Desktop view flashes every time ~/Desktop changes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons/+bug/1812883/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1882462] Re: Displays wake up pre-maturely (likely driven by notification)
There's a slight chance this is a side-effect of gnome-settings-daemon trying to enforce the default colour profile. It's a bit of a mess but I believe that does so by programming the display hardware directly, independently of the power mode mutter/gnome-shell last set. So if gnome-settings-daemon has touched the hardware more recently than mutter /gnome-shell I imagine problems like this might occur.
