[Bug 1884396] Re: Ubuntu freezing intermittently when the mega.nz appindicator is loaded

2020-06-23 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I'm thinking if this is a general problem with animated indicators then
bug 784055 might cover it. If however it's due to lots of logging then
bug 1849142 might cover it. Until we know which this bug is incomplete.
If you don't care to investigate further then I understand, and this bug
will auto-close after 60 days.

[Bug 1872796] Re: gnome-shell animations are noticeably stuttery when the Ubuntu extensions are enabled

2020-06-23 Thread Daniel van Vugt
> I believe the app is designed to work on per user extensions only.

That's incorrect. The 'Extensions' app displays those from /usr/share
/gnome-shell/extensions/ as "Built-in" and you can toggle them via the
GUI (I just checked again on 20.04). An extension can be installed
system-wide and manually disabled per-user, via the GUI. If that's not
working for you then please log a new bug about the Extensions app by
running:

[Bug 1876286] Re: Evolution reports "Error performing TLS handshake: Internal error in memory allocation."

2020-06-23 Thread Rod Rivers
I'm able to confirm the xenial-proposed updates/3.4.10-4ubuntu1.8 worked
for pop connections to pop.verizon.net on port 995. I started with a
fresh install of Ubuntu 16.04 and applied all updates except proposed.
As expected gnutls-cli and evolution returned the error. After
installing the proposed versions of libgnutls30 and gnutls-bin I was
able to connect to the server with both programs.

I also used gnutls-cli to connect to imap.aol.com port 993 as a second
check to make sure the new code supports zero length tickets. I also
tried port 443 on www.yahoo.com, www.google.com, www.microsoft.com, and
www.cnn.com as regression tests. All tests connected to the server and
started simple client mode. No errors were displayed.

[Bug 1870736] Re: [nvidia] Screen scaling 125% gives 200%

2020-06-23 Thread mastorak
@3v1n0
It is desktop GPU.
I tried the new mutter package. It doesn't fix the problem.
The behavior now is the following:
-enable fractional scaling
-select and apply 125%
-goes to 200%
-select to go back to to 100%
-things are tiny again but the desktop pixels have increased beyond the borders
of the screen so you have to scroll to view the rest of the desktop.
When going from 100% to 200% and back to 100% -without- enabling fractional
scaling going back to 100% behaves correctly.
Please find attached the log.

[Bug 1884813] [NEW] gvfs truncates files in ftp and ftps

2020-06-23 Thread Nathan Baumann
Public bug reported:

Xubuntu 20.04 LTS
Kernel linux: 5.4.0-37-generic
gvfs version: 1.44.1-1ubuntu1

This bug occurs when I connect to a ftp server through the files manager
(test with thunar and pcmanFM) and I open a file with a text editor
(test with sublime text 3 and Mousepad).

Sometimes when I save the file, it is send truncated to the server (ex:
4KiB instead of 6KiB or 160KiB instead of 235KiB). Save again the file
(even after a change) don't fix it. I must copy my file content, close
the file, re-open it from the file manager, paste content and try again
to save.

It seems don't have problem with SFTP (ssh) protocol. Just the FTP and
FTPS ones.

It isn't a server problem because there is no problem with other FTP
client like Filezilla.

** Affects: gvfs (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1877401] Re: The Italian translation is not complete

2020-06-23 Thread Brian Murray
Hello Marco, or anyone else affected,

Accepted evince into focal-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evince/3.36.5-0ubuntu1
in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-focal. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1876937] Re: Dock location reversed in RTL

2020-06-23 Thread Sebastien Bacher
** Description changed:

+ * Impact
+
he dock location is horizontally reversed, selecting left puts the dock
to the right and vice versa.
+
+
+ * Test Case

  Steps to reproduce (Ubuntu 20.04):

  1. Switch to an RTL language of your choice

  2. Open GNOME Settings

  3. Observe the Appearance icon (The default dock location is to the
right while the icon shows as if it's to the left)

  4. The selection says "Left" (שמאל in Hebrew) yet the dock is aligned to
the right, selecting the opposite option moves the dock to the left
although I selected "Right" (ימין in Hebrew).
+
+
+ * Regression potential
+
+ Check that the position setting does match what the dock is doing

[Bug 1876891] Re: The fractional scaling toggle applies instantly and not when "Apply" is pressed

2020-06-23 Thread Sebastien Bacher
** Description changed:

+ * Impact
+
+ The fractional scaling toggle applies instantly and not when "Apply" is
+ pressed
+
+ * Test Case
+
Do this when in an Xorg/Ubuntu session:

  0. Have fractional scaling disabled and set to 100%
  1. Go to gnome-control-center -> displays
  2. Turn on the fractional scaling toggle
  3. Select 125%
  4. Press apply (the scaling should apply correctly)
  5. Turn off the toggle
  6. Turn the toggle back on

At 5 and 6, the scaling changes. It shouldn't - this should only happen
when you press 'Apply'. The toggle needs to not be directly connected to
  GSettings.

[Bug 1876894] Re: Scaling is not reverted properly (appears shrunk) when disabling fractional scaling

2020-06-23 Thread Sebastien Bacher
** Description changed:

+ * Impact
+
+ Scaling is not reverted properly (appears shrunk) when disabling
+ fractional scaling
+
+
+ * Test Case
+
Do this in an Ubuntu/Xorg session:

  0. Be on a "clean" system wrt. fractional scaling, i.e. disabled & scaling at
100%
  1. Open gnome-control-center → displays
  2. Turn on fractional scaling
  3. Select 125%
  4. Press apply (the scaling should correctly change now)
  5. Turn off fractional scaling by changing the toggle

Now everything is shrunk - it's not been returned to 100% properly. See
the attached screenshot where the text is tiny instead of regular 100%
size. If you do this instead of step 5:

  5. Select 100% scaling
  7. Press apply
  8. Turn off fractional scaling by changing the toggle

Then everything returns to the normal size.

I'm on nvidia(-440), but Séb said that he saw this on his Intel machine
  too.

+
+ * Regression potential
+

So I've checked with the Debian maintainer, the package needs to build
with gnutls for licensing reasons, specific in https://alioth-

are going to fix the gnutls backend if we want that issue resolved

[Bug 1884754] Re: Fractional scaling broken in VMware Player

2020-06-23 Thread Niels Keurentjes
As a sidenote: the "Fractional scaling selector" in display settings
allows me to choose between 100%, 125%, 175%, 175% and 250%. Note the
duplicate 175% that should likely be 150%.

[Bug 1884754] [NEW] Fractional scaling broken in VMware Player

2020-06-23 Thread Niels Keurentjes
Public bug reported:

Related to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1825593,
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1852860, but
those report the issues are fixed. They also do not mention the VMware
specific issues.

Install Ubuntu 20.04 in VMware Player, install open-vm-tools (done
automatically with Easy Install), go to settings, enable Fractional
Scaling and select any non-integer value.

Results:
 - The scaling is applied
 - VMware Tools (open-vm-tools) appears to break, no more seamless mouse
between host and Ubuntu
 - After next reboot the setting is reverted to 100%

[Bug 1876286] Re: Evolution reports "Error performing TLS handshake: Internal error in memory allocation."

2020-06-23 Thread Sebastien Bacher
@Rod, right, if I understand things correctly it should be fixed in 2.56.1
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/glib-networking/-/blob/glib-2-56/NEWS

I've uploaded that version to a ppa now
https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-desktop/+archive/ubuntu/transitions/+sourcepub/11384375/+listing-archive-extra

and I'm going to trigger autopkgtests now on that build to see if they
are back to green, if that's the case I'm going to upload that as a SRU

[Bug 1876286] Re: Evolution reports "Error performing TLS handshake: Internal error in memory allocation."

2020-06-23 Thread Rod Rivers
@seb128 can you double check my thinking? It looks like the regressions on
Bionic with glib-networking/2.56.0-1 are related to newer versions of GnuTLS
reporting GNUTLS_CERT_INSECURE_ALGORITHM on the test certificates. Michael
Catanzaro posted a patch on 2018-04-11 on comment 3 at:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=794286#c3

This fixed test 3/8 certificate after applying the patch, generating the
certs (tls/tests/files/create-files.sh) and building the package. Test
4/8 file-database failed with the same error. It looks like
tls/tests/files/ca-verisign-sha1.pem was signed with sha1 and also needs
to be updated.

I believe this indicates the tests are no longer valid and is unrelated
to the changes I made. How do you want to handle this?

[Bug 1870736] Re: [nvidia] Screen scaling 125% gives 200%

2020-06-23 Thread Treviño
I've uploaded some test packages this ppa:
 https://launchpad.net/~ci-train-ppa-service/+archive/ubuntu/4112

Try them with:
 sudo add-apt-repository ci-train-ppa-service/4112

I'm quite sure they don't solve this issue, but with them I should get
some better debug information.

So please, once installed and restarted your session (or Alt+f2 -> 'r' -> enter
to restart the shell only):
 - Run this in a terminal:
 journalctl /usr/bin/gnome-shell -b0 -ef
 - change your settings to a fractional value from g-c-c
 - attach here the journalctl output (with the outcome)

[Bug 1872796] Re: gnome-shell animations are noticeably stuttery when the Ubuntu extensions are enabled

2020-06-23 Thread Roger James
I am running Ubuntu Focal 20.04. The gnome-shell version is
3.36.2-1ubuntu1-20.04.1. The desktop icons version is
20.04.0-2-1ubuntu1-20.04.1. The app does not work. I believe the app is
designed to work on per user extensions only.

The desktop icon extension is installed as a system extension in
/usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions.

See the review by akram87 on the page
https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/1465/desktop-icons/

But that is not the point. All I am trying to achieve is to gather
information about the impact the ubuntu version of the extension has on
the desktop rendering. The easiest way for the user to do this is by
issuing one simple command.

sudo mv /usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions/desktop-icons@csoriano
something-else

If I am missing something here please accept my apologies.

2020-06-23 Thread Sebastien Bacher
The bionic autopkgtest failure isn't new from that version, retrying the
version currently in updates has the same error
http://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/g/glib-networking/bionic/amd64

it seems like a regression introduced by the security updates but those
seem to bypass the autopkgtest infrastructure so we don't have results
for those uploads...

The Extensions app does not appear to work fro the csoriano version of
desktop icons. It thinks that it is the rastersoft fork.

[Bug 1874371] Re: disks reports incorrect smart details

2020-06-23 Thread Humphrey van Polanen Petel
All relevant information is in the description; specifically, this:

see also
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gsmartcontrol/+bug/1873546

and I copy my latest comment from there, because it seems quite relevant
here.

The hardware maintenance phase of 16.04 finished end Q1 2018.
The release date of the Kingston SA400S37 ssd was Q1 2017.
Therefore, the upstream decision from Debian maintainer, see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/smartmontools/+bug/1858121
is within the bounds of the hardware maintenance phase.
Accordingly, update-smart-drivedb should be reinstated, backported from 18.04.
