[Bug 1896171] Re: Wayland GL apps appear corrupt on Raspberry Pi 4B (v3d driver)

2021-04-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Reopened (like the upstream bug) to avoid confusion about the fix not
being enabled by default. You just need to run:

  gsettings set org.gnome.mutter experimental-features "['kms-
modifiers']"

But we can close this again after that's been done automatically in a
future release.

[Bug 1922437] Re: login into desktop is stuttering on wayland

2021-04-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Sounds kind of like https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-
shell/-/issues/3571 although the root cause of that one does not exist
in GNOME 3.38. And in the end it was closed because the new design of
GNOME 40 makes the issue hardly noticeable. So this is probably a "Won't
Fix" bug, but we can leave it open for other people to find.

[Bug 1181666] Re: gnome-shell randomly blocks mouse clicks from working in app windows

2021-04-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
If there were any "crashes" then indeed using a Xorg session you would
not notice them, because gnome-shell on Xorg can restart seamlessly and
your apps are unaffected. That doesn't mean Wayland is crashing more
often than Xorg, only that a Xorg session recovers better from gnome-
shell crashes.

But this bug is not about crashes. It's about app windows not responding
to clicks while the shell does. So if you do experience that problem
then we would like to know how to reproduce it.

We probably don't want any discussions of crashes here because I don't
think they will be relevant. They should get their own separate bug
reports.

[Bug 1922548] Re: Crash accessing Home of another user

2021-04-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1181666] Re: gnome-shell randomly blocks mouse clicks from working in app windows

2021-04-05 Thread elatllat
I used Xorg Gnome on Ubuntu 18.04 every day for it's life and never had
an unresponsive desktop. (lock screen is buggy but that's different)

I used Wayland Gnome on Ubuntu 20.04 every day for it's life and get
unresponsive desktop every few weeks.

Considering Ubuntu 21.04 is to default to Wayland Gnome is there some
other data I can share next time my desktop crashes? Or is beta Testing
more likely to get something done about this?

[Bug 1920121] Re: Unable to do anything after pressing the Super key

2021-04-05 Thread funicorn
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1871262 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1871262

I comment here because I can reproduce the issue and want to add more
specifics.

The issue happened since upgrade to 21.04 dev branch with gnome-shell
both on Wayland and Xorg. It appears occasionally, not every time
though, when Super key was pressed or Mouse was moved onto the hot
corner, calling up activity (application) previews. Then suddenly screen
doesn't respond to any keyboard or mouse input, with window previews
staying there. (In fact mouse movement is visible but clicking to close
a window is no longer effective. I can restart the gnome-shell by
inputting alt+F2 & r)

How to reproduce :

1. Press 'Super', or move mouse to top-left corner.
2. Try typing into the dash box while (or even before) window previews show up.
3. There are chances the screen freezes. Applications cannot be switched or
closed, and repressing Super key cannot disappear the previews.

[Bug 1872796] Re: gnome-shell animations are noticeably stuttery when the Ubuntu extensions are enabled

2021-04-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I should note that desktop-icons-ng living in a separate process is a
very good thing. It means CPU and memory usage of the extension is
clearly in a separate process from gnome-shell. There's very little
desktop-icons-ng can do to slow down the shell, other than redrawing too
much of the desktop too often (because it's a big window).

[Bug 1922540] [NEW] Display orientation resets on reboot with USB-C external monitor and refresh rate dropdown disappears when setting it sometimes

2021-04-05 Thread Freeman
Public bug reported:

When rebooting with USB-C external monitor (3440x1440) attached, display
orientation in "gnome-control-center display" resets requiring one to
reposition the windows on boot. Very annoying.

In addition, refresh rate drop down for external display sometimes goes
missing when setting refresh rate to 100hz instead of default 60?Hz.
Refresh rate listing and dropdown box disappears until setting monitor
resolution to different resolution and back or reboot.
