[Bug 1927840] Re: [SRU] Update to 1.68.1

2021-05-14 Thread Treviño
Sure, so yes 1.67.2 was a unstable version (in gnome, the libraries that
follow the old versioning schema use odd minor version numbers for
unstable versions).

The first stable version of the serie was 1.68.0, but it was affected by
mayor crashes [1] and so we decided to delay releasing it to the first
stable release update, that is 1.68.1

[Bug 1927840] Re: [SRU] Update to 1.68.1

2021-05-14 Thread Steve Langasek
Can you please clarify how 1.67.2 -> 1.68.1 fits under the gnome stable
update policy? these appear to be separate minor versions. Was 1.67.2
not a stable release?

[Bug 1872870] Re: When zoom is enabled, mouse pointer leaves square trails on desktop

2021-05-14 Thread Patrick Smyth
So as a number of people have already observed, this bug is kind of a
showstopper for many using Gnome's magnification feature on a regular
basis, and it should definitely be fixed sooner rather than later.

However, looking at the behavior of the bug, I noticed there were no
trails when the zoom feature was on and zoomed in. They're only present
if the zoom setting is at 1.0 but the zoom feature is on. As a
workaround, I wrote a small script that adds some logic to zooming in
and out. If the feature is off and a zoom in is requested, the zoom is
set to 2.0 and then the zoom feature is turned on. If a zoom out is
requested and the updated magnification would be less than 2.0, i.e.
fully zoomed out, the new magnification is set and then the feature is
disabled. So, if you use the script to zoom in and out, you won't see
trails, since the zoom feature will be disabled at max zoom.

The script can be found on GitHub here:

https://github.com/smythp/gnome-magnifier-mouse-trails-workaround

I've provided some usage guidance in the README and added some xbindkeys
settings in another file that will replicate the default Gnome zoom in
and out shortcuts. I haven't tested it extensively, feel free to
contribute or open an issue, though no promises as to quality here.

[Bug 1891270] Re: Iranian calendar shows in Azerbaijani language

2021-05-14 Thread esmaeelE
Prove this change will fix bug.

1. Boot system with live installer for example
`xubuntu-21.04-desktop-amd64.iso`.
2. Fix file : `/usr/lib/ubiquity/localechooser/post-base-installer`
and add `IR) deflang=fa ;;`.
3. Run ubiquity

Run:
$ ubiquity -d gtk_ui --debug

Logs:
$ tail -f /var/log/syslog

See screenshot taken after install with this change to ubiquity
installer.

[Bug 1926104] Re: Ubuntu software center lists Wesnoth as proprietary

2021-05-14 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Thanks for taking your time to report this issue and making Ubuntu
better.

I can confirm that wesnoth-1.14 is wrongly listed with proprietary
license in Ubuntu Software on Ubuntu 21.04. I remember seeing reports
for other open source packages also listed with wrong license, but I
don't know if there's a common root cause for these.

Btw, when reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. This will
automatically add information such as version numbers. You can learn
more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Exact same problem here but for me it happens with both Desktop Icon NG

I see this message in journalctl when the issue happens:

meta_window_set_stack_position_no_sync: assertion
'window->stack_position >= 0' failed

not sure though if this is related.

[Bug 1922353] Re: Overview sometimes fails to appear or disappear in 21.04

2021-05-14 Thread Xema Fuentes
Happened to me again. Just in case is of help:

1- Computer was some time idle with the browser opened.
2- Updated some flatpaks through the terminal with "flatpak update".
3- Closed the terminal
4- Closed the browser, and then it happened.

File attached following instructions on #20

And following the instructions from the linked website, I don't see any
crash reports.

[Bug 1928458] [NEW] inconsistent and unneeded password prompts

2021-05-14 Thread Nicolas Damgaard Larsen
Public bug reported:

On several occasions I have experienced that gnome-keyring prompts to be
unlocked when I believe it should not.
* I have Spotify installed as a .deb. When starting Spotify, on some occasions
gnome-keyring prompts to be unlocked, on others not. This behaviour has been
observed both when gnome-keyring has been unlocked in advance as well as when
not. I have not added my Spotify password to gnome-keyring.
* same behaviour as described above when starting Lutris. Did also not add any
Lutris related passwords to gnome-keyring.
* similar behaviour is observed with other applications where no passwords have
been added to gnome-keyring.

Whether or not I actually unlock the keyring, it has no functional
impact in these cases.

and, yes, it seems to only happen (and at the moment quite reliably)
when the extension is enabled.

[Bug 1926932] Re: Error message too short to understand what is wrong

2021-05-14 Thread Nav
@Daniel. I ran the command in command #4. That's a lot of sensitive
info, in my opinion, to post on a public forum. Besides, this bug is
about the display of an error message, and does not require all that
info. For any future bug reports that do require such information, it'd
help to either have a private mode of submitting info, which allows only
a limited number of legit people to view the details, or to request the
user for specific portions of the journalctl output, explaining why that
info is required.

2021-05-14 Thread Nav
Also, I've marked bug 1928208
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1928208) as a duplicate of this
bug. 1928208 has a better image description of how the problem could be
solved, by displaying the message higher up. Perhaps what could also be
included, is the functionality of taking to the user to a screen where
they can see more details about the message if they click the message. I
noticed that clicking a circle near the date displayed, opens up a box
that shows recent messages. Perhaps this existing functionality could be
developed further (image attached) to be made more useful in terms of
displaying more details.

2021-05-14 Thread Martin Kaistra
I disabled the extensions you listed and could still reproduce it. Then
I also started to disable the extensions shipped with Ubuntu, it also
happens with 'Ubuntu Dock' disabled.

However, at least right now, I cannot reproduce it when 'Desktop Icons
NG (DING)' is disabled, so maybe this is the problematic extension?

[Bug 1926932] Re: Error message too short to understand what is wrong

2021-05-14 Thread Nav
@Daniel: I'm not reporting a bug about the error displayed in the image I
attached. I'm saying that the message bubble was too small to display the
error, and even if I clicked the message bubble, it didn't expand to display
the full error message. Moreover, the bubble appeared over some folders, and
temporarily blocked my view of the files/folders in Nautilus.
@Chris. I ran appport-collect for this bug just now. When I received your
message about running apport-collect, I didn't have a clue about how it'd work
and what the point of it was. So I didn't run it until now. I've been through
the https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs page innumerable times, and I assure
you, it's extremely frustrating to read through all that text and not be able
to figure out why y'all wrote all that, when all I wanted to do was to just
search if the bug is already reported, and then just file a bug report. I could
volunteer to improve the UX of that wiki page. But Perhaps what's more
important, is to not require users to read through all of that, and maybe have
a web page that would take them through a step-by-step process of what they
want to achieve.

** Description changed:

This is on Ubuntu 20.10 (Groovy Gorilla). I placed a text file on my desktop,
and on clicking it, I was shown the error "Execution of
/home/myUsername/Desktop/.goutputstream-WU... Command not found".
Even on clicking the error message that popped up, it didn't expand to show
more details.
So basically, the bug I'm reporting is about error messages being too
short/obscure to be useful for users to figure out what the problem actually
is. Image attached. The black spot in the middle was added by me to obscure the
username.

- (on a a side note, I was clicking a plain text document which had the
- checkbox for "allow executing file as a program" ticked). Clicking any
- other textfile didn't show this error.
