[Bug 1456668] Re: evince cannot display one of my postscript files

2021-06-02 Thread Alex Cherepanov
The problem seems to be caused by evince that uses DSC processing on a
non-DSC-conforming file.
Removal of all DSC comments makes evince display the last page of the file
only. This indicates that evince cannot handle non-conforming files at all.

Perhaps evince can convert all PostScript files to PDF and avoid the
reliance on DSC parsing.

[Bug 1872802] Re: Resizing any window will randomly result in graphics corruption for a fraction of a second (in Xorg sessions)

2021-06-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It's only as a test. Does a Wayland session avoid this bug? I know other
people have said it does in the past but they are no longer experiencing
problems and it would be most useful to have an answer from the original
reporter.

Please open a new bug about that or it's unlikely to be investigated and
fixed. Although check to see if it is bug 1874578 first.

> Also applications like OBS, Discord and Teams have issues with
> recording and/or streaming, so I have to stay on X.

That's due to missing support for PipeWire in those apps, required for
screen capturing in Wayland sessions. OBS has a fix coming in version 27
for example (bug 1838967).

Please remember to report back on your findings from comment #33.

I've tried this before commenting last time and it had way worse
performance with the desktop itself. For example the dash would take a
minute or so to load all the icons. Also applications like OBS, Discord
and Teams have issues with recording and/or streaming, so I have to stay
on X.

[Bug 1841826] Re: Going to sleep instead of logging in while lid closed & external display

2021-06-02 Thread Eric Jackson
I believe I have the same behavior with different hardware, and no
docking station: I have a Dell Latitude 7480 which I typically use with
an external monitor (via HDMI), USB mouse, and USB keyboard, while the
laptop sits behind a desk with its lid closed.

Up until April 2021, I was running Ubuntu 16.04 on this machine with the
(standard for 16.04) Unity desktop, with the same physical configuration
--that is, while working at home, I kept the laptop itself closed behind
my desk, and used it via the external mouse, keyboard, and display.
Prior to upgrading, I was able to log in without any problems associated
with the lid being closed.

On April 22, 2021, since 16.04 would no longer be getting updates, I
finally upgraded through 18.04 to 20.04, still using the Unity desktop.
Now, from a cold start, I get the user log-in screen, and immediately
after entering my password, the system suspends. If I open the lid a few
centimeters, the system resumes without prompting for a password.

If my problem is really the same problem that @twetzel21 is seeing--and
in terms of the behavior he describes, it appears that it is--this
suggests to me that it's neither related to a dock, nor to anything with
Nvidia drivers (since I have only Intel integrated graphics and do not
have any Nvidia drivers installed), nor related to a hardware issue.
Although I use my laptop with an external screen, mouse, and keyboard,
they're not connected through any dock, but just using the normal ports
on the machine. Moreover, this behavior didn't happen for me with the
same hardware in 16.04, but began only when I moved through 18.04 to
20.04.

Moreover, when I upgraded to 20.04, I installed gnome-tweak-tool, and
under General I have "Suspend when laptop lid is closed" *un*checked.
Moreover, in the system settings > Power options, the dropdowns are set
to "Do nothing" when the laptop lid is closed, both on battery or on
outlet power.

I *do* have the Dropbox client installed and set to start up on login,
which I see was one issue that was raised as potentially related. I know
that, since my system doesn't represent a clean install of 20.04, it's
going to have a bit more cruft than normal, but I'm happy to make any
system information or syslog portions available.

available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/3.38.2.1-3ubuntu1
in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See

to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
hirsute to verification-done-hirsute. If it does not fix the bug for
you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed-hirsute. In either case, without details of your
testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1930567] [NEW] popup menu handling broken with multiple monitors

2021-06-02 Thread Andy Whitcroft
Public bug reported:

I have two (hopefully related) problems with popup-menus for
applications on an external monitor. For background I have two
displays, the first a builtin LCD panel, the second and HDMI connected
LCD monitor. The external monitor is stacked "above" the internal LCD
panel, the internal LCD panel is the "primary" display from a where the
dash et al are placed.

The first issue occurs with gnome-terminal. When using right-click on
an element in the window such as a link, a menu is shown to allow
OpenURL et al. This menu will not appear when the link it too close to
the bottom of the upper display (the external one); the cursor changes
to the arrow menu item selector cursor but not menu is rendered. This
occurs regardless of whether the window is maximised and it related to
proximity to the boundary of the display. It behaves correctly at the
bottom boundary of the lower display. Two screenshots attached showing
it working/not-working.

The second issue occurs in firefox. When it is rendered on the upper
displays its internal menus are displayed at the top of the lower
display rather than on the upper display rooted at the menu item itself.
This also does not occur on the lower display. Screenshot attached.

[Bug 1917362] Re: PAM: smartcard owner isn't associated to user by default

2021-06-02 Thread Treviño
As expained in IRC:

23:42 bdmurray: on https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1917362 I did
upload ages ago in hirsute (at the time, as impish wasn't open yet). But it has
never been copied to impish (I feel)
23:42 Launchpad bug 1917362 in sssd (Ubuntu) "PAM: smartcard owner
isn't associated to user by default" [Medium, Triaged]
23:43 bdmurray: so ideally it should be copied the one that is in
hirsute queue... I've no such powers on that pkg though

[Bug 1930192] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV just after: clutter/clutter/clutter-offscreen-effect.c:213: Unable to create an Offscreen buffer

2021-06-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I've tried forcing the error in GNOME 3.36, 3.38 and 41.beta, but none
of them result in a crash. Only error messages. So whatever your crash
is or was, we will need more information. Please:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then try reproducing the crash again and then look
at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file
/var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to
recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us.
