[Bug 1976371] Re: SRU for evolution-data-server 3.44.2

2022-06-21 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Hello Nathan, or anyone else affected,

Accepted evolution-data-server into jammy-proposed. The package will
build now and be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution-data-
server/3.44.2-0ubuntu1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
jammy to verification-done-jammy. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-jammy. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1979334] Re: can't empty trash cut paste or move files from Desktop

2022-06-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Those sound like multiple separate issues.

* Emptying the trash on the desktop in 20.04 seems to work for me so I'm
not sure what you mean is failing there.

* Cut and paste is tracked in bug 1948008. It is already fixed in Ubuntu
22.04 and later but is unlikely to ever be implemented in the old
extension for 20.04 because that extension is effectively retired
upstream. So it will only get basic fixes and not features. Please use
22.04 instead if you can.

* Not sure what you mean by "mile files".

Please pick a single issue for this bug to be about and always log
separate bugs for separate issues.

[Bug 1976371] Re: SRU for evolution-data-server 3.44.2

2022-06-21 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
It's (still ) not finalised, but the list in
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/scope-of-gnome-mru/18041/29 *does*
include both e-d-s and evolution as a part of the GNOME MRE.

It would be nice if the MRE discussion got resolved (and I've added a
comment), but based on history and the current state of that discussion
I'm OK with accepting this as under the MRE - particularly since it
looks like the existing package is going to lose functionality when
Google turns off a network endpoint.

[Bug 1969896] Re: Evince Document Viewer(42.0) does not remember last page in 22.04 and opens in a tiny window when launched

2022-06-21 Thread Etienne URBAH
In order that evince does not trigger the "dbind-WARNING : Couldn't
connect to accessibility bus" error message anymore, following
workaround works for me :

Add following line at the end of /etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.bin.evince :
  owner /{,var/}run/user/*/at-spi/bus* rw,

Does this workaround also suppress the "GVFS-WARNING : The peer-to-peer
connection failed" error message ?

If yes, this issue could perhaps be fixed by adding the above mentioned
line directly inside /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.evince

[Bug 1976478] [NEW] Telegram Desktop steals input on Lock screen

2022-06-21 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

You have been subscribed to a public security bug:

Sometimes when Telegram Desktop is running input from the password field
gets stolen & send to contacts when trying to login.

Steps to reproduce (I think):
-have "draw attention to the window" enabled in TG Desktop settings
-have telegram desktop running in foreground, with conversation open.
-lock screen.
-on mobile device send message & receive replies in same conversation
-try to log back in on desktop, notice that no star characters appear in
password field, and when enter is pressed inserted data gets send in open
conversation.

[Bug 1875285] Re: Fractional scaling zooms to 200% and crops half the screen

2022-06-21 Thread Peter Roelants
Same Issue here on Lenovo P1 with Nvidia Quadro T1000 (see attached
screenshot which is a picture of my secondary monitor).

I cannot use fractional scaling with a secondary monitor, the scaling
zooms to 200% and crops part the screen on the secondary monitor.

I have had this issue with both 20.04 and 22.04 X-Window manager
(Wayland doesn't even work on my Lenovo...)

Just install the apparmor one, the evince update is a new version but
not related to this fix.

Yes, a workaround was distro-patched into mutter 42.0-3ubuntu1 in Ubuntu 22.04
(see https://launchpad.net/bugs/1964541 for details).
So I think it is safe to mark this resolved.

Upstream changed the style of those OSD between GS 42 and 42.1 (see:

We updated Yaru in the master branch to follow these changes (see:

But it hasn't been uploaded yet to Ubuntu 22.04.

way to Shotwell 0.32. However, there is no plan for a Shotwell 0.32
release in the immediate future.

If we need a feature from Shotwell 0.31, we should probably just
backport it instead of packaging the new version.

I'm just filing this bug for more visible status tracking.

[Bug 1976204] Re: Screen freeze if a 4K monitor is added to a 4K laptop while DING is active

2022-06-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
More progress:

The cause is meta_window_wayland_update_main_monitor() constantly
changing which monitor the window (presumably DING because there aren't
any others) prefers. The toggle is happening on the last line of
meta_window_wayland_update_main_monitor() and if you remove that line
then the bug goes away.

The next step will be to figure out why mutter is switching the DING
window between monitors constantly.

[Bug 1969637]

2022-06-21 Thread Ftake
Thank you for letting me know.

I confirmed this problem has been resolved in gnome-settins-daemon 42.2

gnome-setting-daemon writes Gtk/IMModule "ibus". It seems that GTK reads
this config and loads ibus-gtk3/4 under X11 session.

Please note that GTK_IM_MODULE is not set anymore.

[Bug 1976204] Re: Screen freeze if a 4K monitor is added to a 4K laptop while DING is active

2022-06-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Small progress trying to trace the root cause today:

I don't yet see gnome-shell doing anything wrong. It is reacting to an
infinite flood of workspace 'window-removed' signals. That signal can
only come from one function in mutter, and during the infinite flood I
see 'on_all_workspaces' is toggling between 0 and 1:

(gdb) bt
#0 meta_workspace_remove_window
(workspace=0x55a010a2d1d0, window=0x55a01135ce20)

I'm not saying gnome-shell isn't to blame, just that I've only worked
back to mutter so far.

[Bug 1979289] [NEW] Network icon in GNOME title bar flickers sporadically with network bridge

2022-06-21 Thread Siegfried
Public bug reported:

After creating a network bridge (for QEMU), the network connection on the top
right flickers, which means it sporadically disappears and then appears again
after a short while.
The time between the icon disappearing ranges between 5 minutes and 45 minutes,
most of the time it's around 10 minutes.
The time between the icon re-appearing ranges between 1 seconds and 2 minutes,
most of the time it's gone for around 3 seconds.
There's no apparent correlation to any user behaviour, it happens independent
of the network being idle or under load.

The physical network traffic is not affected, i.e. the network
connection still works while the icon is gone.

The network bridge was created with 'nmcli' according to this guide and
works flawlessly: https://www.answertopia.com/ubuntu/creating-an-ubuntu-
kvm-networked-bridge-interface/

[Bug 1979281] [NEW] Maximized window expands behind dock after wakeup from monitor energy powerdown

2022-06-21 Thread Siegfried
Public bug reported:

To reproduce:
- maximize a window like the terminal or file manager.
- open another window maximized in the foreground.
- wait until the energy saving powers down your monitor.
- wake the monitor up again

The covered, maximized terminal window expanded behind the dock on the
left (but not behind the title bar on the top). I'll attach screenshots
that are more descriptive than pure text

2022-06-21 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thanks, I've uploaded the fix as a stable update now, the bug will be
update with testing instructions once it's accepted from the queue

** Description changed:

+ * Impact
+
+ The keyring daemon crashes after login on arm installation with ssh keys
+ in use
+
+ * Test case
+
+ - configure a ssh key on your machine
+ - try to use to log into another machine from a desktop session
+
+ The keyring should prompt for the passphrase. You should be able to
+ store the key in the keyring and use it still after a logout/login. No
+ crash prompt should be displayed
+
+ * Regression potential
+
+ The fix is in the ssh agent service so if there is an issue it's going
+ to be with ssh key authentication.

[Bug 1969896] Re: Evince Document Viewer(42.0) does not remember last page in 22.04 and opens in a tiny window when launched

2022-06-21 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Hello ManOnTheMoon, or anyone else affected,

Accepted apparmor into jammy-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apparmor/3.0.4-2ubuntu2.1 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

+ * Evince does not behave as expected and launches with a very small
+ window resulting in a poor user experience
+
+ * Fixing this requires only a minor change to the exo-open abstraction
+ and results in correctly functioning evince
+
+ * By removing the dbus deny rule in the exo-open abstraction, evince is
+ able to correctly communicate with gvfs and start up as normal
+
+ [Test Plan]
+
+ * Start dbus-monitor to watch for AppArmor denials
+
+ $ dbus-monitor --session | grep AppArmor
+
+ * Launch evince and there should be no AppArmor message shown above
+ from dbus-monitor
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+
+ * By removing this deny rule from the exo-open abstraction, AppArmor
+ will be more permissive for anything which uses the exo-open abstraction
+ and potentially allow it access to gvfs where it did not before.
+
+ * This should not result in any regressions as we are granting extra
+ functionality which wasn't allowed before, however perhaps in the case
+ of an application which expects *not* to be able to use gvfs as this was
+ previously explicitly denied, it may now be able to (if it has a less
+ specific allow rule) and hence it may function differently than before.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ * Whilst on the surface by removing this deny rule it may appear that this
grants additional permissions to anything which uses the exo-open abstraction,
this is not necessarily true as AppArmor denies all accesses by default unless
explicitly allowed by a profile. And so in general this will not grant
permission to use a DBus interface that an application did not have before.
However, due to the way that deny rules take precedence over allow rules in
AppArmor, if an application had been allowed generic dbus access to the user's
session bus, the previous deny rule in the exo-open abstraction would then have
denied them access to just gvfs via dbus. With this new proposed change, this
is not explicitly denied and so is now allowed as expected. But for applcations
which may have used the exo-open abstraction and which did *not* have DBus
access before, this change will not result in them obtaining DBus access either.
