2022-06-23 Thread Andy Chi
Based on comment#57, I built a test deb for this issue. If anyone wants
to test the patched gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons-ng, please refer
to https://launchpad.net/~andch/+archive/ubuntu/experimental-package.

@vanvugt, thanks a lot!

[Bug 1979655] Re: System reboots random

2022-06-23 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Unwanted reboots are most likely to be a kernel bug, so reassigning.

Also, the message:

> clutter_actor_iter_next: assertion 'ri->age == ri->root->priv->age'
failed

is unrelated. See https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-
shell/-/issues/4747 instead.

That said, the above bug only occurs when gnome-shell is shutting down.
So maybe the system reboot is a clean one?!

[Bug 1969305] Re: Export XDG_CONFIG_HOME and XDG_DATA_HOME as well

2022-06-23 Thread Akbarkhon Variskhanov
After a bit of testing and consideration, I have come to a conclusion
that X11 hierarchy is not fit for this purpose since Wayland or pure
virtual terminal sessions never get to source those files.

A more suitable destination for such an init file would be
/etc/profile.d, which contains system-wide init files for login shells
(sourced upon shell invocation). Ideally, this should be standardized
across all XDG-compliant systems.

For now, another file should be placed in debian and included in
d/gnome-session-common.install for installation at /etc/profile.d

[Bug 1969896] Re: Evince Document Viewer(42.0) does not remember last page in 22.04 and opens in a tiny window when launched

2022-06-23 Thread tea for one
Following the comments from Alex Murray in #55:-

I enabled the jammy-proposed repository
I updated evince to version 42.3 (I do not know if this was essential or not)
I installed apparmor/jammy-proposed libapparmor1/jammy-proposed
I then shut down the PC and rebooted

After opening evince graphically and selecting a suitable pdf (Full
Circle magazine Issue 181), I then saved my current settings as default.

I re-opened evince graphically and the saved settings were used.

Opening evince via the terminal does not produce any error messages and
the saved settings were preserved.

A successful fix.

Ubuntu 22.04
Gnome 42.1

[Bug 1969140] Re: Window minimize animation flickers and appears in the wrong place in Xorg sessions

2022-06-23 Thread Coeur Noir
Hi,

I can see "flickering" animation too :
https://i.ibb.co/7WytBXj/anim-minimize-glitch.gif

This is on Ubuntu 22.04, with :

This happens ONLY on Xorg.

This happens both while DiNG extension ENABLED or DISABLED.

[Bug 1976204] Re: Screen freeze and high CPU when a second monitor of different scaling factor is attached (but only if DING is active)

2022-06-23 Thread Daniel van Vugt
DING fix proposed:
https://gitlab.com/rastersoft/desktop-icons-ng/-/merge_requests/356

I will keep working on a mutter fix, but we're no longer blocked waiting
for it. Regular app windows can get stuck in the same kind of infinite
loop so we should figure out a test case in that style before proposing
anything to mutter.

[Bug 1976204] Re: Screen freeze and high CPU when a second monitor of different scaling factor is attached (but only if DING is active)

2022-06-23 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I have a workaround/fix for DING that works. But before I propose that
I'm going to see if I can fix mutter still. It seems the problem is more
fundamentally in mutter, though they are fighting.

Roughly the problem is:

1. DING creates a fixed size window the size of the monitor. But it always
starts on the primary monitor because the extension hasn't noticed it yet so
hasn't moved it to the correct monitor.
2. Mutter moves the window down below the panel because on startup it doesn't
have any special window type just yet (the extension hasn't seen its own window
yet).
3. Now the window extends below the bottom of the monitor.
4. Mutter moves the window right to the next monitor because there's no panel
there and it can fit fully on screen.
5. Mutter mistakenly delays in logical window resizing and halves the size of
the window to match the OLD monitor scale it is no longer on.
6. Mutter decides this new smaller window is now so small it should move back
to the old monitor.
7. Mutter moves the window down below the panel to fit in the work area.
Everything fits.
8. Mutter resizes the window to match the scale of the OLD monitor it is no
longer on.
9. Goto 3.

The infinite loop in mutter prevents the extension from completing
proper startup. It never calls hide_from_window_list() that would allow
us to use proper placement rules.
