[Bug 1866038] Re: By default install Noto fonts for Unicode ranges not already covered by default

2023-06-21 Thread vishal goswami
Right now gnome ships with cantarell, it needs to ship with Noto Sans as
default to cover almost 78 languages.

A temporary solution to this problem is to

Install font manager

Install Noto Sans font

Select it as interface text from tweaks

Disable all default fonts and fallback fonts from font manager.

[Bug 2024598] [NEW] On a successful login the GUI session freezes after a few seconds when using hwe kernel

2023-06-21 Thread Joao Andre Simioni
Public bug reported:

[Description]

Running a Jammy Desktop inside Hyper-V, with the hwe kernel (tested with
5.19 and 6.2), around 10 seconds after a successful login, the UI
freezes.

If switching tty to tty1 using CTRL + ALT + F1 and returning to tty2
using CTRL + ALT + F2 the UI responds again, for a short time (around 10
seconds).

[Workaround]

Switching back to the LTS Kernel (5.15) brings the system back to normal
operation.

2023-06-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
** Description changed:

  [ Impact ]

Mouse cursor stutters but only over GUI elements that are animated.

  [ Test Plan ]

- 1. Open Settings > Screen Display.
- 2. Move the cursor up/down over the list on the left side.
- 3. Move the cursor up/down over a non-animated part of the window, or over
your desktop wallpaper.
+ 1. Open Settings.
+ 2. Move the cursor up/down over an empty area of the desktop.
+ 3. Move the cursor up/down over the list pane on the left side of the

Expect: No difference in cursor smoothness whether the window below is

[Bug 2016990] Re: Irregular frame rate in some fullscreen games

2023-06-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
** Description changed:

+ [ Impact ]
+
I'm having a strange issue with the game Path of Exile (free). With Ubuntu
Wayland session, vsync on, I get very irregular frame rates, it jumps around 40
fps.
If I switch to Plasma Wayland the game is very smooth 60 fps.

I'm running the game from Steam with Proton. I've tried Proton Experimental
and Proton 8.0 so far, no difference.
The game uses Vulkan so I guess it's being allowed to set up all the swap and
presentation stuff pretty much itself... ?

  MUTTER_DEBUG_DISABLE_TRIPLE_BUFFERING=1 doesn't help Mutter so it's not
strictly related to triple buffering, which makes sense since it's a
  full screen game anyway.

+ [ Test Plan ]
+
+ None known, other than the OP to run the game.
+
+ [ Where problems could occur ]
+
+ In rendering performance of fullscreen apps/games.
+
+ [ Workaround ]
+
+ Add this to /etc/environment:
+ CLUTTER_PAINT=disable-dynamic-max-render-time
+
+ [ Other Info ]

[Bug 2023688] Re: error

2023-06-21 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:

1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Please also ensure that you include the release and flavour of Ubuntu
that you are using.

Thank you!
