I occasionally get this, though I'm at a loss to debug it. It seems
like one in N (when N is a large enough number to let me get work done,
but a small enough one to be annoying) seems to open with what appears
to be some sort of flow control or buffering turned on.

I'm not closing this as the menubar not being technically disablable is

To manage notifications
The apt log here clearly shows it installing the metapackage instead of
the task. Is there a reason why it's happening this way? Task
installation would do the right thing here.

This works just fine for me with bash too, with the default profile, no
less. Not sure why it hates you. But pretty please, don't change
gnome-terminal to do things it shouldn't.
In fact, I think I'll just wontfix the gnome-terminal bug before anyone
