[Bug 1993907] Re: nautilus freezes randomly

2023-07-29 Thread emmanuel poirier
Environment:

Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS
64-bit
GNOME 42.9
Windowing System Wayland

FreeOffice 2021 installed and used to open

Bug description:

When in Nautilus, I select a .docx file and press space bar for previewing,
then the machine freezes. Only remedy is to reboot. It's a fully reproducible
freeze not random.
I tested with various .docx file and one specifically made for that and issue
is the same. These .docx files open perfectly well in FreeOffice 2021.

If you tell me how to produce a process dump I' ll add it.

Hi Daniel,

I found out that since I don´t use wps office the bug has not
manifested so I think it was the root cause. I removed it and use Free
Office now.

I forward this email to their email officesupp...@wps.com

Hi again,

/var/crash$ ls
_opt_kingsoft_wps-office_office6_wpscloudsvr.1000.crash
_opt_kingsoft_wps-office_office6_wpscloudsvr.1000.upload
_opt_kingsoft_wps-office_office6_wpscloudsvr.1000.uploaded

Nothing with Ubuntu but indeed wps may have been launched when the
freeze occured. Let me launch it and see if freezes comes back.

sudo cat /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id

Re: [Bug 2017528] Re: windows don't accept mouse input

2023-04-25 Thread emmanuel poirier
Hi Daniel,

attached the settings file.

There was 2 extensions:

~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions$ ls
desaturate_all gnomebedt...@ionutbortis.gmail.com

I removed them, we will see if issue comes back.

This morning I got 3 or 4 freezes lasting 30 secs then stopping: they
froze the machine completely and nothing shown in system monitor, nor
in htop as both got frozen too.

Will note the exact times issue occurs next time if any and look into
the logs.

Regards

[Bug 1969963] Re: Increasing the Terminal window height on 22.04 LTS using Alt + F8 + [Up|Down] is broken.

2022-04-25 Thread Emmanuel Cagadas
** Description changed:

I experienced a bug on 22.04 LTS when resizing the height of the
Terminal window using Alt + F8 + [Up|Down]. Increasing the height no
longer works while decreasing the height still works. I tested other
applications (e.g. Gedit, Firefox, Files) and I can still increase the
  window height.
+
+
+ Additional Details:
+ When I installed nvidia-driver-510 the issue went away. But then I tried to
uninstall the said package and the issue went back. My system is a laptop with
Nvidia 940MX GPU. I encountered the issue when I was not using any Nvidia GPU
drivers. Perhaps when I'm on Nouveau?

[Bug 1722353] Re: Screen blanking and/or screen lock crashes gnome-shell user session on wayland - Ubuntu 17.10 beta

2017-10-23 Thread Emmanuel Pirsch
I have the same issue, running on a laptop with a dual monitor splitter
plugged in my displayPort.

The crash happens under Wayland and XOrg.

I've disabled auto-source selection on the monitors.

The crash happens only when I log-in after the session has been locked.
It also happens when I press the reset switch on my displayPort
splitter.

[Bug 1705369] Re: Ubuntu 17.10 boots to black screen when using Nvidia drivers (on a desktop with an Intel GPU)

2017-10-03 Thread Iamanan Emmanuel
I too am affected by this bug

The device is a Dell Vostro 5470 with Intel integrated graphic card + Nvidia
GT740M using
driver version 375.66.

The bug appears when doing a clean install of Ubuntu gnome, changing the
nouveau driver to proprietary 375.66 and rebooting. Upon reboot the
login screen doesn't show (all black with display on)

The same happens with Ubuntu 17.04 and even 16.04
but only with gnome desktop. unity works just fine.

[Bug 1449112] Re: can't move files to trash without any owner/permission issues

2015-08-06 Thread Emmanuel
Happens the same to me. I have two symlinks to two specific folders on my NTFS
partition, that has all my personal files and data (Dual-Boot PC). When I
access to this folders via Home Folder using symlink folder and try to delete
some file that is inside this, the next message appears ... can't be put in
the trash. Do you want to delete it immediately?. Not happening the same when
I acces via Data partition to the folder.
By the way, I had observed that this weird behavior only appears to happens on
the symlinked folder, and not on the folders that can be contained inside of it.
If, after accessing via Home Folder to you symlinked folder, you create any new
file and a new folder, put this file on the folder, and try to delete this last
one, no problem occurs. But if you try the same with any file inside symlinked
folder, the message appears. I do not know how to explain it well, but what I
try to said is that there is no problem at all in folders contained (and the
files this folders contain) inside symlinked folder. The problem is with files
contained inside symlinked folder.

IE: if my symlink folder is /media/user/Personal Files, any file
contained in Personal Files will have problem if accesing via Home
Folder. But no problems at all will occur with files contained in
/media/user/Personal Files/Music.

Hope this help to someone to fix this.

[Bug 1241309] Re: Ubuntu 13.10 has no way to change individual input method settings

2013-12-08 Thread Emmanuel Castro
To make shorter the workaround proposed by David Shih #17.

Installation (once only):
  sudo apt-get install python-ibus

Running the setup tool for pinyin:
  cd /usr/share/ibus-pinyin/setup/
  python main.py

Running the setup tool for bopomofo:
  cd /usr/share/ibus-pinyin/setup/
  python main.py bopomofo

You might have to restart your session to make the changes effective.

[Bug 1020770] Re: gdm install prompts about dm when debconf value set

2013-03-22 Thread Emmanuel Thomé
Hi,

Pardon me if I'm misunderstanding, but it very much seems to me that the
gdm/lightdm configuration scripts are unconditionally setting the
default value of the debconf choice to gdm, irrespective of the previous
value of the setting.

Is that normal behaviour ?

In the transcript below I would have found more logical to see a GET
just after the two METAGET's.

Best,

[Bug 861272] Re: No easy way to configure primary display

2012-09-09 Thread Emmanuel THIERRY
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 800136 ***

Are you aware you propose to solve an ergonomy bug using commands that are
definitely not user-friendly ?
If i wanted to type commands for administrating my desktop system, i would have
installed a Gentoo, a Slackware or an Archlinux...

Regards.

[Bug 221112] Re: Can't use space bar in search bar when using french alternative keyboard

2012-07-03 Thread Emmanuel Castro
After discussions about the bug #1013881, it seems that the right way to solve
this bug is to change the line 128 of symbol/fr
include nbsp(level4nl)
by
include nbsp(level4n)

For an unknown reason, the line «include nbsp(level4nl)» produces the
bug of Rhythmbox.

This way, we can get :
– Right Ctrl works
– Rhythmbox Ctrl-Space works
– Nbsp is available (on level 4)

2012-06-25 Thread Emmanuel Castro

No, when I read the #26662, I don't understand why with this bug would
be a duplicate of #26662.

In the present case, if one renames the .ods file to .zip, it works.
It is only that File-Roller should have a look inside the file before rejecting
it.

[Bug 221112]

2012-06-22 Thread Emmanuel Castro
The solution posted in comment #27 disables the standard behaviour of
the Right-Ctrl key. It is annoying for most users! (I first thought that
my keyboard was broken).

See the bug 1013881 in Ubuntu
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xkeyboard-config/+bug/1013881

My opinion is that the right solution to solve the RhythmBox bug is to remove
the line
  include nbsp(level4nl)
not patching the keyboard with the ugly
  include level5(rctrl_switch)

Maybe we can solve the nbsp handling as it is the problem.

Which language has a successful keyboard that handles nbsp?

And what if instead of level 4, we put non-breaking space to level 3. I
find it is more convenient (and I think I am not alone).

So, instead of:
include nbsp(level4nl)
we put non-breaking space to level 3:
include nbsp(level3n)

This gives us back the Right-Ctrl. It does not break RhythmBox behaviour
any more. And people using non-breaking spaces will be happy.

Just my opinion: The 'up' button is one single-click and very

it would be much better if the user could configure/decide which buttons
are showing up and which are not, rather than having one of them removed

[Bug 861272] Re: No easy way to configure default monitor (regression)

2011-10-10 Thread Emmanuel THIERRY
Hello,
Thanks for having registered the bug. However, please note that even using the
technique you propose (that sounds simple), it is actually very complex ! Yet,
i don't think that my gnome configuration is odd, i don't use to hack this part
of my system.
There is no anchor to drag and drop the top panel, and when trying to drag it,
it looks to be locked. There is no button to unlock it, even when right
clicking to the panel (at least in my locale). The only way i found to move it
was to right click on the bar = Properties = Uncheck the Extend box, then
it is draggable so drag it, then recheck the Extend box. Of course, i had to
do that for both top and down panels. I hope that you understand how far it is
unergonomic.
The topic you linked shows that gnome people doesn't care much about it, you
shouldn't rely on them to fix it...

[Bug 861272] [NEW] No easy way to configure default monitor (regression)

2011-09-28 Thread Emmanuel THIERRY
Public bug reported:

Whenever a new monitor is plugged, the desktop may switch to an inappropriate
screen. System settings should permit to change the default monitor, but they
don't.
The gnome-display-properties tool (or its equivalent) has regressed from its
Hardy version, which permitted to set the default monitor. While the current
one, provided by default in the gnome-control-center package, has much less
features.
This is a very bug for normal users which shouldn't have to:
 - Install a third party package to do this very basic operation
 - Rely on drivers and tools of their graphic card, which might not provide a
specific tool to handle multi-screen or other basic features
 - Hack their xorg configuration, as it is proposed in these kind of tutorials
[http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/multi-ecran] (i haven't check on ubuntu.com, but i'm
sure it is exactly the same)

Note that this bug should be considered as important because Ubuntu
people often argue that their system is usable by human beings, and
then because the tested distribution is an up to date 10.4 LTS (so still
supported).

i'm not sure that it is related to the upstream bug as the submitter want to

The feature that is not working after the upgrade to natty is when i receive a

i found a workaround for this, you can check

Looks like nautilus-sendto is trying to use older versions of libraries.
Running the following fixed it for me:

 sudo ln -s /usr/lib/libebook-1.2.so.10 /usr/lib/libebook-1.2.so.9

 sudo ln -s /usr/lib/libedataserver-1.2.so.14 /usr/lib/libedataserver-1.2.so.13

 works for me

Sorry for the late reply.
I found an important information about my issue. Nautilus become in english
when the IBM Lotus Notes package is installed. Should I look in the deb file to
see if there is something wrong or should I report a bug to IBM ?

[Bug 532633] Re: [light-theme] please revert the order of the window controls back to menu:minimize, maximize, close

2010-03-16 Thread Emmanuel Touzery
two things:

1. i'm left handed and driving the mouse with the right hand, i think
lots of left-handed people do that

2. this will make wine applications look even more out of place, also
chrome has the problem. for wine i think it's more or less unfixable.
but i understand that wine is not really a high priority for canonical.

I'm using a slightly modified version of Shiki-brave-theme. IIRC, it
comes from an alternate ubuntu repository (gnome-colors I think).

After selecting the Clearlooks theme, f-spot works.

Moreover, after setting back my original theme, f-spot started to work

Just installing kdenlive makes that frei0r gets installed and in turn makes

He's not the only one. I alos have this issue. Please see the attached

If I log out and log in, all the applets are correctly loaded.

All I can say is, on my machine, the log in sequence is quite long,
especially after a reboot. So may be some too short timeouts are
involved in this bug. Timeouts that are not reached in the second warm

[Bug 273294] Re: Rhythmbox can not use smb:// as library location

2009-06-09 Thread Emmanuel DA MOTA
As Bastien Nocera said in Gnome Buzilla, i tried to remove
/usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libgstgnomevfs.so

I can import a folder and listen music from a smb share.

it's a good news but what about dependencies?
