When a file is named .something in Linux, it's considered a hidden file,
and Nautilus can be toggled to display these or not.
I guess OS X uses the same convention, so .DS_Store and the like will
not be shown?
But other OSes don't, so we have

Yes, because there's enough space. It's like making a submenu with only

I am not getting the transport endpoint error, but ~/.gvfs locations
are not working after logout. I created an sftp bookmark with Connect
to Server, and when I link to it, the link is actually to ~/.gvfs as
expected, but after reboot the ~/.gvfs folder has disappeared, and
doesn't even reappear
Where does the weather report come from? The Location name or the
Latitude and Longitude?

of space, but file-roller is apparently copying the entire thing to a
hidden file in my home directory first?? This prevents it from
unarchiving. Why would it copy to the home directory in the first
place?

don't have that much control over this. They should officially say
we'd like this to be consistent for all apps, but then they have to
pass it upstream to the people writing the various programs and desktops
to get them to build

My Dell Inspiron 8600 just goes black without any warning at all and I
lose all my work. Quite frustrating, as you can imagine. It just
happened and I'm restraining my anger.
I have my Power Management settings to Suspend for critically low
battery, but, of course, it does nothing. No warning.

of the idealized way they should theoretically behave.

between an icon in the taskbar and an

explicitly placed on the panel, whereas notification area icons just
appear in any old order in a pleasantly helpful sort of way

much more fundamental overhauls,

general agreement to use the standard units and stop confusing our
users. You'll notice that chpe's patch on this thread is reported as
1.1 KiB, for instance.
Here are at least 130 other Ubuntu users who also vote to follow
DVD−R and DVD+R have slightly different capacities (4.71 GB vs 4.70 GB,
respectively), and you have to take into account the difference between
standard GB (1,000,000,000 bytes), and Nautilus GB (1,073,741,824
bytes = 1 GiB). Nautilus CD burner should actually be reporting in GiB,
though, so a

This is a very simple thing to fix. Why hasn't it been fixed yet? It
just needs:
1. A launcher script for parsing .URL files
2. A MIME type for .URL files
3. A binding between the MIME type and the launcher script
All of these have already been done, they just need to be included in
Ubuntu.
I don't know of any package, but as I understand it this is very simple
to fix for someone familiar with the MIME stuff; just a matter of
creating or modifying 2 or 3 text files in the system.
