I may have changed this setting in the UI back in Hoary somehow (I don't
remember). The problem is that I couldn't find the setting in Breezy at
all
You said it doesn't respond to ctrl-f1 -- does it respond to ctrl-alt-f1? This
breaks out of
X11 and should give you a console login. You can return with clt-f7.

Update: This isn't every single time on my Compal CL56, but it is at
least 50% of the time.
Looking through the logs, I see this show up occasionally:

I'm reopening this, because this exact issue happens on my laptop using
Hardy. I'm using a Compal CL-56. Basically, it looks like video memory
needs to be wiped and/or the screensaver is getting run *after* the
suspend.
That said, shouldn't this be fixed in the X server?

Sleep/hibernate key (Fn + Esc [Zz]):
state 0x0, keycode 223 (keysym 0x0, NoSymbol)
Darken Screen (Fn + down arrow): [this is the one that was hibernating]
state 0x0, keycode 239 (keysym 0x0, NoSymbol)
Brighten Screen (Fn + up arrow):
Will gnome know what to do with this? The gnome-power-manager process
runs as the current user, wheras we're claiming that this should be run
as an OS function through eg. acpi-scripts. I guess they could edit the
acpi script config in their little power management tool...

I just tested out hibernate half a dozen times with 8.10, and it seems
stable. There were a few minor polish issues, but it seems to work.

This is probably the same as one of the other gdm font bugs, but they
didn't look quite the same.
This is with the Jaunty RC, clean install.
The fonts in the login screen are mostly microscopic -- too small to
read. This applies to the actual text

I have my system language set to English (United States), and the
spellcheck option in Empathy set to English (the only option), but
Empathy appears to be using a British spellcheck dictionary, contrary to
system settings.
