[Bug 2080821] [NEW] Custom caps lock action inconsistent on login screen

2024-09-17 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have remapped the keyboard's "Caps Lock" button as an extra "Escape"
button, moving the rare use case of actually needing "Caps Lock" to
"Shift + Caps Lock". This means that pressing "Caps Lock" anywhere in
the OS performs whatever "Escape" was supposed to do (apart from VSCode,
which seems to handle keys separately and differently... but that's
their problem, not yours). This also translates to the "Caps Lock" key
on both the laptop's and the external keyboard lighting up properly when
activated.

However, at some point I think I locked the computer with "Caps Lock"
turned on, i.e. the indicator was alight on the keyboard. The lockscreen
interpreted this, correctly, as "Caps lock = ON". To turn it off, I
pressed "Shift + Caps Lock". Caps turns off, and I can login with my
password. Inside the DE, I notice now that the Caps state has _not_
shifted, and as such is kept at "Caps lock = ON". I yet again press
"Shift + Caps lock", which, again correctly, turns Caps lock off. I note
that the keyboard(s) now have their Caps Lock indicator light on, even
though my current caps state is "OFF". It seems like there are two
different systems keeping track of the Caps Lock state, and these two
can get out of sync.

[Bug 2080782] [NEW] Problems when my computer monitors go to sleep

2024-09-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS
Xorg 1:7.7+23ubuntu3 500

My default position for my two monitors is having the 34 inch ultrawide and on
top of the 16:9 25 inch. This works well after boot up or if I restart with alt
f2 and r.

How4ever, after 'sleeping' when the monitors wake up the layout has
changed with the content of the 25 incher duplicated, appearing both on
itself and aligned left on top of the content of the ultrawide.

If I use display settings to reposition the monitor with the ultrawide
to the left of the 25 incher, things work as expected, with each monitor
showing only their content, but when I try to move the ultrawide on top,
the duplication/overlap effect happens again.

I have tried several different nvidia drivers, this has not helped.

[Bug 2080357] [NEW] There's no way to adjust the speed of the mouse keys on the menu on Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS.

2024-09-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I use the mouse keys every day, and the speed is painfully slow, and there is
no way to adjust it on the menu with a speed bar or something like that. On
Windows, it's extremely easy to adjust the speed, but on Ubuntu, you have to
keep using external programs and terminal code, and that's a terrible user
experience.
Would you please create an option on the menu to adjust the speed?
Thank you!

[Bug 2025006] Re: Monitor colour profile is randomly not applied

2024-09-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package mutter - 47~rc-4ubuntu1

---
mutter (47~rc-4ubuntu1) oracular; urgency=medium

  [ Jeremy Bícha ]
  * Merge with Debian. Remaining changes:
- Add x11-Add-support-for-fractional-scaling-using-Randr.patch
- Add window-Add-ability-to-override-the-edge-constraints.patch
  + Make possible for extensions (such as Tiling Assistant) to override
window constraints
- Remove debian/salsa-ci.yml: Not helpful for us currently
  * Remove the cogl color patches: applied in new release
  * Remove the mesa workaround patch: shouldn't be needed any more
  * Cherry-pick resizing fix for various Electron apps (LP: #2080073)

  [ Marco Trevisan (Treviño) ]
  * d/p/x11-randr-scaling: Update to work with latest upstream changes
  * debian/control: Update VCS references to ubuntu branch

mutter (47~rc-4) experimental; urgency=medium

  * Team upload
  * d/mutter-15-tests.postrm: Clean up gschemas.compiled created by postinst

mutter (47~rc-3) experimental; urgency=medium

  * Team upload
  * d/p/workarounds, d/tests: Treat all stacking tests as flaky.
Unfortunately these don't seem to be stable enough to be used as a
QA gate, and there are enough of them that at least one will often
fail in any given buildd build or autopkgtest run
(Mitigates: #1077800) (Closes: #1072512, #1078359)
  * d/tests: Also treat thread.test as flaky.
This doesn't seem to be reliable in autopkgtest-virt-qemu or -lxc,
although I can't reproduce the failure when running it separately.
  * d/rules, d/p/workarounds: Don't run the input-capture test at all.
In my sbuild environment and on some buildds, it often hangs until it
times out after 10 minutes, which is a waste of time. We were ignoring
its result anyway.
  * d/mutter-15-tests.postinst: Compile required schemas for installed-tests
(Closes: #1081016)
  * d/p/tests-Add-a-utility-function-to-delete-a-directory-recurs.patch,
d/p/MetaContextTest-Optionally-create-and-destroy-a-temporary.patch,
d/p/color-management-tests-Use-a-temporary-XDG_DATA_HOME.patch,
d/p/color-management-profile-conflict-test-Use-a-temporary-XD.patch:
Add patches to fix autopkgtests when not running as root
  * Correct bug number in previous changelog entry
  * Standards-Version: 4.7.0 (no changes required)
  * d/source/lintian-overrides: Update for use of ${env:deb_udevdir}

mutter (47~rc-2) experimental; urgency=medium

  * debian/*symbols: Update architectures for new cogl_trace symbols
  * Have mutter-15-tests depend on pipewire & libglib2.0-bin
(Closes: #1081016)
  * autopkgtest: create the required /tmp/.X11-unix/

mutter (47~rc-1) experimental; urgency=medium

  [ Jeremy Bícha ]
  * New upstream release (LP: #2077216, LP: #2025006, LP: #2074253,
LP: #2076318)
- Fix screen freeze when using EGL Stream (Nvidia-470) (LP: #2074254)
- Only warn once about cursor sizes (LP: #2076211)
  * debian/libmutter-15-0.symbols: Update
  * Mark as breaking gnome-shell << 47~rc
  * Only enable sysprof on architectures where sysprof is available
  * Refresh patches
  * Remove the kms deadline evasion patch: alternative fix is in new release
  * Remove 2 other patches applied in new release

  [ Daniel van Vugt ]
  * Update triple buffering patch

  [ Alessandro Astone ]
  * Add build dependency on pipewire for build tests

[Bug 2080282] [NEW] Wayland is chosen as the default for Nvidia on Jammy

2024-09-10 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I've identified a regression with the latest update to the NVIDIA 550
drivers in Ubuntu 22.04. This prevents any libadwaita apps from
launching while using the Wayland display server.

It appears that the latest available NVIDIA 550.107.02 package pulls in
some new dependencies, such as libnvidia-egl-wayland1 and some other
i386 support packages (libnvidia-egl-wayland1:i386 libwayland-
client0:i386 libffi8:i386). They seem to enable Wayland support out of
the box, which sets Wayland as the default desktop for new installations
of Ubuntu 22.04 (assuming software updates are enabled from the Ubuntu
installer).

However, any attempt to launch libadwaita apps from within Wayland with the
NVIDIA 550.107.02 drivers installed always fails. When launching any of these
libadwaita apps from the Terminal, it always returns one of the following three
errors:
- Gdk-Message: Error 71 (Protocol error) dispatching to Wayland display.
- Gdk-Message: Error reading events from display: Protocol error
- Gdk-Message: Error flushing display: Protocol error
Some of the affected apps include gnome-text-editor, gnome-sound-recorder, and
gnome-shell-extension-manager which are available from the standard Ubuntu
repositories.

When I researched these error messages, I found that other Linux distros also
seem to be experiencing this bug, including Fedora:
https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/gdk-message-error-71-protocol-error-dispatching-to-wayland-display/127927/6
However, the "GSK_RENDERER=gl" solution in bhundven's post in that thread
didn't work in Ubuntu 22.04 when I tested it.

For reference, I was able to replicate this issue on an ASUS Zenbook UX303LB
with an NVIDIA 940M graphics card running the newest available NVIDIA
550.107.02 driver on a fresh installation of Ubuntu 22.04.4 with all of the
latest software updates installed. However, downgrading to an older version of
the NVIDIA drivers (like version 535) without full Wayland support makes this
error disappear, with either Xorg and Wayland selected from the login screen.
In our testing, Ubuntu 24.04 doesn't seem to be affected by this issue in
Wayland or Xorg. However, we also noticed that Ubuntu 24.04 still defaults to
Xorg on NVIDIA 550.107.02, even with the latest updates downloaded by the
Ubuntu installer (unlike Ubuntu 22.04).

I'm aware that your team is preparing to launch Ubuntu 22.04.5 on 12 September.
However, as this is an out-of-the-box bug with the default version of the
NVIDIA drivers for most NVIDIA users, it may be worth investigating this issue
to avoid new users having a bad experience.
Perhaps it might be worth sticking with Xorg by default in Ubuntu 22.04
installations with the NVIDIA 550 drivers as a workaround?

If you need any help or additional information when trying to replicate
or investigate this issue, please let me know and I would be happy to
help.

[Bug 2079862] [NEW] unlocking screen after suspend take a very long time

2024-09-07 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After upgrade from 22.04 to 24.04.

Given system is in suspend
When I press a key
Then the login screen is shown with my user name and a password prompt
When I type in the correct password and
Then the system hangs for a very long time

Note: I've never seen it unlock by itself after this step. If no action,
eventually it suspends again.

WORKAROUND:
When I wait some time
And I type control-alt-f1
Then the system shows the "switch user" screen
When I select my user
Then the system shows a password prompt
When I type in the password for my user
Then the system shows the desktop

[Bug 2078901] [NEW] Persistent Thumbnail Artifact Appears on Desktop When Opening Images

2024-09-04 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When opening or viewing image files, a thumbnail artifact persists on
the desktop, on top of other windows. This issue occurs regardless of
the application used to open the image. I'm not sure whether the
artifact appears during thumbnail generation or upon opening the file
with an application. The artifact remains visible and does not disappear
until the system is restarted or the user logs out.

[Bug 2078460] [NEW] Mouse cursor distorted in screen captures

2024-09-02 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Under both vanilla Ubuntu 22.04.x and 24.04.1 running Wayland with
native GNOME session, the mouse cursor is captured in a distorted way
when capturing the screen with some applications, for example with OBS
or when screen sharing under Firefox. This happens both, when sharing an
entire screen and also when sharing a single window only.

The desktop is set up with 125% fractional scaling due to the display's
high resolution.

Both applications given as examples above are installed as snap
packages.

When I do a screen video recording via GNOME's built-in screenshot tool,
the mouse cursor is shown correctly.

GNOME version is 46 under Ubuntu 24.04.

[Bug 2077810] [NEW] [nvidia] Screen freeze on Wayland

2024-08-25 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When trying to use Wayland, the machine freezes semi-randomly, I can
blindly click to pause video playback if there is any, the screen
doesn't black out, it just freezes and doesn't change from then on.

Most of my usage includes heavy video watching, namely Twitch, Youtube,
Kick, Afreecatv and Plex. I watch on Firefox and Brave mostly. It seems
to mostly happen when changing which window is focused, but it's not
exclusive to video playback.

Have you experienced just one lockup, or have you had a series of these lockups?
 - Several, usually an initial one after hours of use, and then I can't keep
the system stable for more then a few minutes for the next few hard reboots
until I switch back off of Wayland.

If you've had several, how often does it occur? Every few hours? Once or twice
a day? Couple times a week?
 - After a few hours on Wayland, at most within 24 hours after switching to
Wayland. The following times happen within minutes of the hard reboot to
recovery.

When did you first notice it?
 - I've had the same issue on Wayland since being on 22.04 using nvidia 545
drivers. I tried again after updating to 555 drivers on the 'graphics-drivers'
PPA, issue repeated itself. Today I swapped to 560-open (no longer on the
graphics-drivers PPA), and tried to use Wayland again, but same issue.

Under what conditions does it seem most likely to reproduce?
 - Switching between desktops and window focus, I keep 2 firefox windows open,
one per display, and 1 brave window open, it happens most frequently when
swapping from brave to firefox on the opposite display, but is not exclusive,
and can happen when there's no video playback in any of the browsers.

Gonna mention, I'm not new to Linux, but am very new to Desktop Linux.
I submitted this bug while on X11 because I couldn't keep it from freezing for
long enough for the ubuntu-bug utility to gather information while on Wayland.
Not sure if that data is getting submitted along this form, or separately, so,
sry if I'm making more work needlessly.
