Yes, this has always been the case, since the first Ubuntu release, and
I'd consider it an upstream issue. gnome-screensaver really shouldn't
allow OpenGL screensavers to run by default when no acceleration is

Confirmed, if I take a file of mine which plays OK, and convert it to one of
these FLAC files without length metadata, Rhythmbox refuses to play it.
Guillaume, you should be able to work around the problem trivially by
recompressing your FLAC files.

can't play .flac files with Rhythmbox in U
I tried to use your example file to create another FLAC stream of unspecified
length, but it failed:

What a terrible user interface. Anyway I have your file now, and indeed
rhythmbox won't play it. However, if I simply decompress it and recompress it,
with flac -d followed by flac, it plays fine.
