I'm confirming this bug. In Firefox: Firefox already says install missing plugins, but this fails! (e.g. java and flash). This is not very professional. Firefox should be able to work together with the package manager and install the package. -- We should suggest to install the proper package

You are right, these files will be opened read only. BUT: There is a symbol in the menu and if you click on it a copy of the file will be created and you can edit the copy. Or you save the file. I hope this can help you. I have tested this with AbiWord and with AbiWord you can edit the file.
