I know what I did before getting this error... I was fiddling with the
services-admin program...
After click on, if I remember, the printer servers, it stalled for a moment and
killed on me. I then got this...

Think I fixed it... had to do with the dbus... some how it got unchecked
and gnome and other what nots in ubuntu couldn't handle the situation
without paniking. (I guess I would freak too if I lost one of my
vitals, like an arm or leg :P ) Anyway, started up the service
manually... you know

One more comment about that. skype stops working when you do this. you
have to delete/move the script then start login again. Kind of a pain
as it doesn't work with some games and does work with others.

I totally understand your point... Have you heard a mac start, have you heard a
windows start, at the right moments it would be nice to hear an ubuntu system
start.
1. Shows you stand out.
2. Makes the users feel proud they own an Ubuntu box.
3. Confirms that you really are login in.

This morning, I was turning on my computer. Last night I had the music
blaring, jsut in my headsets. Now the headsets are unplugged and when I boot
POW! and my baby wakes up and starts crying.

Windows has no feature for this. Infact... I think linux is the closed, as
some sound cards have the ability to change the volume without being logged in.
I don't think Mac has a login sound but worse still, they have the post
sound. Something I don't think can be disabled.

I posted it by typing the name partially in the insert feild and pressing
enter... I jsut did it again to confirm. Drag and drop works fine. (Now that

When I click on a file of a certain name it acts as if it was just
deleted or vanished. Take a look at the screen shot. Weird huh? As you
can see it is only of a certain type and when I refresh they appear
again. So gladly they are not deleted. But quite a problem really.
I switch to metacity and it seemed to do the same thing. At least I
switched to the manager from the beryl manager. Do you want it on a
strait no beryl start?

Not sure if it started along time ago or only when I noticed, but when I login
it delays a random amount of time for certain applications that load at login.
For example: network-manager-gnome and power-manager none others that I notice.
I notice this as the splash screen
The solution for me was to use dmix. As sad as it is... even new cards
can't handle multi sound and record very well. wether the driver or the
hardware. Both could even be to blam.

I get annoyed by it too... it wouldn't be hard to have it find those files and
if they are they prompt for a password and then delete them.
Otherwise have the trash tell that you can't move them there because the trash
is not supposed to take them. But that would be dumb.

As for the automatically adjust the volume, no go. If I set the sound
settings to the lowest... it doesn't warn me or adjust it. Perhaps a
small dialog to make sure your sound it correct. For example, have an
adjustment bar, I know, you are trying to avoid it. But until we get

I have tried changing mice and it has the same effect. My keyboard how ever is
a Microsoft Wired Keyboard 600 and I have a Logitech RX 250 and a Logitech
M-BZ105A (Fancy thing)

That would be the solution if I had the startup sound turned off and
occassionally want it on. Can't we do it the other way?
