Fair point, but question is if it's software cursor from Xserver's
perspective. NVidia driver might be blending the cursor in, while
"emulating HW cursor" on the Xorg's end, right?

[Bug 1870512] Re: forced software cursor with PageFlip enabled triggers artifacts on screen

2020-05-21 Thread Aleksander Miera
A recording would preferably be better, a screenshot might not give the
full picture. Anyway, sure, I shall post it. The case I'm describing is
more extreme, the squares are way bigger and flickering constantly, most
of the time effectively preventing usage of the machine, such messy it
gets.

Plus, is the other user also using SW cursor? In the case described here
it's related purely to that.

[Bug 1873401] Re: Gnome Shell lock-up on GPU hotplug

2020-04-22 Thread Aleksander Miera
Consulted the bug on #gnome-shell IRC.
Next step is to track down the event that actually triggers execution of
cogl_glib_source_dispatch. It's possible it simply does not arrive. BTW, this
does not rule out Xorg as potential culprit, it might be simply not delivering
the expected event. This is yet to be checked.

[Bug 1873401] Re: xorg lock-up on GPU hotplug

2020-04-21 Thread Aleksander Miera
OK, I'm totally sure it's a freeze.
Moreover, gnome-shell stack trace looks normal, event loop runs just fine.
I can generate and provide core file if needed.

What I managed to debug so far, is that in case of multiple /dev/dri/cardX
being created
frame_cb in meta-stage-x11.c:296 is not called which simply results in the
screen being stalled.
Debugging it up the stack trace leads to conclusion, that
cogl_glib_source_dispatch in cogl-glib-source.c:133 is not called at all for
some reason.

Natural assumption would be to track that function down, unless there's
sth more you can recommend me?

[Bug 1042456] Re: Huawei e398 doesn't work

2012-11-19 Thread Aleksander Morgado
Current MM in Ubuntu fully ignores WWAN ports handled using the QMI
protocol; which means the modem is stuck to use PPP over a serial port.
That method seems to be enough for slower connections like GSM/HSPA, but
definitely not for LTE.

The fix for this is to use QMI and the WWAN port, as done in current git
master of MM :-/

Don't know; have not played with that modem. But what I can tell is that
using AT+PPP in such a modem is probably a fallback method which is not
supposed to be used... LTE speeds need a net port, PPP just introduces
too much unnecessary overhead.

The attached video apparently has weird colours (perhaps a problem of Desktop
Recorder which I used), but this is not the case, fortunately.
It show how I create three pairs of folders, and each time get an error. Please

Adnotation: while I use mouse to navigate on this video, I create
folders by Shift + Ctrl + N combination, type the desired name and press
Enter (keyboard only it is).

Sebastien, Mikael, the bug described is a lack of configurability in GNOME

I see and understand that there are probably more.
What I do not understand is why allowing full configurability isn't desired,
especially that it shouldn't prove to be dangerous and/or difficult for users

this misbehaviour isn't quite fresh, actually I do remember it occuring
many times over the last year or so.

[Bug 889940] Re: clicking on folder with open Nautilus instance should open in new tab

2011-11-13 Thread Aleksander Śmierciak
I can hardly concur. On small screens it could easily lead to Nautilus'
interface clutter, besides, one cannot be sure if it would really make
it easier for _everyone_, not just for those who have gotten used to the
idea they presented.

In my opinion, this idea could be implemented as an option in
Preferences or some kind of (optional) plugin.

[Bug 886327] Re: Nautilus window closes when unmounting currently explored filesystem

2011-11-11 Thread Aleksander Śmierciak
Thank you for your input.
I browsed through GNOME Bugzilla bugs and found that Bug no. 530542
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/530542) was sent to
the developers through GNOME Bugzilla. It got their attention and, according to
comments posted under Launchpad bug (the Bugzilla entry was somewhat
abandoned), was fixed:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/530542/comments/7
- Don't auto-close the window you initiated an unmount in (lp: #530542)

Unfortunately, this is no longer true, since after unmounting, the
window auto-closes - and now it doesn't matter if you mount through
Nautilus window or any other means, the behaviour is still the same.
Nautilus somehow lost its mechanism which redirects window focus to
computer:///.

One year ago someone filed a bug at both Launchpad and GNOME Bugzilla
which was confirmed and also connected to similar (the same?) bad
program behaviour. This issue was to be fixed in nautilus
(1:2.29.92-0ubuntu1) (Lucid Lynx timeline) and I do remember Nautilus
working correctly back then. But since few weeks the behaviour changed
back to the state from before the bugfix.

I am still a newbie when it comes to how Launchpad and Bugtrackers work.
I would like someone to tell me if this phenomenon shouldn't be labeled
as regression? And should I file a new bug entry at GNOME Bugzilla - or
rather post a comment under the bug from year ago?

[Bug 886327] [NEW] Nautilus window closes when unmounting currently explored filesystem

2011-11-04 Thread Aleksander Śmierciak
Public bug reported:

What happens:
In Nautilus, when exploring a mountable filesystem of a device (having it open
in the active window/tab), unmounting this device by the unmount icon on the
side panel causes whole window to close, having immediately followed
unmounting. If the currently explored folder isn't the one on the filesystem
that we unmount, then nothing happens to Nautilus window.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Mount a filesystem.
2. Open Nautilus and explore the content of said filesystem.
3. Unmount said filesystem, for example using the unmount icon on the side
panel.
4. In the current state of things, Nautilus window will close immediately due
to unmount.

What should happen:
After unmounting an actively explored filesystem, the window/tab should change
its focus to a default element, such as computer:/// - like it was before, or
perhaps /media, /home?

Alternatively:
Because some consider the desired behaviour as a bug
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/23293), there should
be a possibility to change this behaviour to the way the end user wants it to
be - either closing the Nautilus window/tab or changing address to a default
element.

It is similar to how Windows 7 explorer.exe works. I personally find
this annoying - I have close to twenty partitions total and I like to
unmount those on which work I have currently finished without fear of
closing the program itself.

It is only a matter of the last few days/weeks that I experienced this
behaviour. Some time ago it used to work as described in What should
happen section.

[Bug 800979] Re: gnome-volume-control doesn't control USB headset speaker volume

2011-09-22 Thread Aleksander Budzynowski
Could this be related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/gnome-media/+bug/856110?

Try setting the volume to 100 in alsa-mixer and then see if changing the
volume in the gnome-volume-control now changes your headset volume. If
so, then it's almost definitely the same bug.

[Bug 800979] [NEW] gnome-volume-control doesn't control USB headset speaker volume

2011-06-22 Thread Aleksander Budzynowski
Public bug reported:

This problem began immediately after I upgraded from Maverick to Natty (11.04).
I tried using an old kernel and it did not help.
Installed version of gnome-media is 2.32.0-0ubuntu7.

When I plug my USB headset in, it shows up in gnome-volume-control and I
can select it as the default output device. (The headset also has a
microphone which I can select as an input device, and seems to work
properly.)

The available output profiles for the selected device are:
1. Digital Stereo (IEC958) Output
2. Analog Stereo Output

If I choose option 1, the output volume control affects the volume of the
device (but see below).
If I choose option 2, the output volume control has no effect.

HOWEVER, there is another variable here, an extra volume control that I
can only access in alsamixer for the USB device, which is called
Speaker. This volume control is unrelated to any of the gnome-volume-
control controls (changing one will not cause the other to update), but
it also influences the output volume of the headset! For instance, if
this volume control is 0 and the Digital Stereo Output control is 100,
there is no sound. If this volume control is 100 and the Digital Stereo
Output is 0, there is no sound. If they are both 100 then there is
sound.

The problem is all the more annoying because each time I plug the USB
device in, the alsamixer volume control resets to 0, meaning I have to
go into alsamixer each time I plug the device in in order to hear
anything.

Relevant lsusb and amixer output attached.

[Bug 593599] [NEW] Disk Mounter shows shadowed mounts, while it shouldn't

2010-06-14 Thread Aleksander Morgado
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

In Ubuntu 10.04, gnome-applets version 2.30.0-0ubuntu2.

If a GMount is shadowed, which can be checked with
g_mount_is_shadowed(), it shouldn't be shown in the Disk Mounter applet.

Currently, I've got a device that when connected, it's shown twice in
the Disk Mounter. gvfs-mount -li shows 2 GMounts for the same mount,
but one of them is marked as shadowed, so it seems the Disk Mounter
doesn't consider that.

Also, Disk Mounter crashes when unmounting that duplicated mount.

[Bug 566877] Re: Disabling and Enabling Evolution Indicator plugin closes evolution

2010-04-19 Thread Aleksander Morgado
Actually, this is not only Indicator-plugin specific. I have noticed the
same using Tracker 0.8 plugin for evolution.

The Tracker developers state (not exactly quoting) that when the plugin
is disabled, the DBus connections are not properly unregistered from the
DBus session, and when the plugin is enabled again, it cannot properly
re-register the DBus connections (as already there) and thus, exit()
gets called.

It makes sense, as Evolution also probably uses DBus to communicate with
the indicator-applet.

So it's probably a bug specific to ePlugins which register DBus
connections.

select from the room list those Jabber rooms again, nothing really seems
to be happening.

I need to either restart Empathy or just disable/enable the Jabber
account to get (if lucky) joined in those favorite rooms.

[Bug 562834] Re: Autojoin favorite rooms not always succeeds with Jabber rooms

2010-04-14 Thread Aleksander Morgado
Hi Omer,

Actually, can't reproduce it always. Every morning I open empathy, and
sometimes all rooms are joined and shown in the dialog, and sometimes
like today and several times last week, only IRC rooms are shown in the
dialog and Jabber rooms are not.

Any easy way of enabling debug logs or something, so that I can provide
more info next time it happens?

[Bug 557893] [NEW] Jabber account 'resource' not properly setup when Empathy starts

2010-04-08 Thread Aleksander Morgado
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

My Jabber account info has my *nickname* in the resource field. AFAIK,
the resource in XMPP allows the same person to be for example logged in
twice in two different places with same username, but different resource
name.

The issue here is that initially, the value in the resource field is
not applied when I login the Jabber account. I can see it because I
auto-login to several rooms, and my identifier in those rooms is
something like r...@server.com/Full Name instead of
r...@server.com/nickname.

If I want to have my nickname as identifier, I need to go to the account
info, go to the resource field, modify it (even if it was ok
previously), and then disable and enable the account. After that, my
identifier in the rooms will be r...@server.com/nickname as expected.

[Bug 532633] Re: [light-theme] please revert the order of the window controls back to menu:minimize, maximize, close

2010-03-18 Thread Aleksander Morgado
More than one person is missing the point here, I believe.

Ubuntu is free to use, distribute, and even more important in this case,
free to modify. If you dislike the buttons on the left, just use the
already mentioned gconf or extra PPA methods. That's it. Of course, you
can like Ubuntu's/Canonical's decision on this issue, or you can dislike
it; but noone is pointing a gun at your head. This is not how things are
done in the free software world. They make a choice, and you can make
the opposite choice in your own computer if you prefer.

Personally, I don't like Ubuntu One. And I am not blaming Ubuntu for
including it in the default installation; I just uninstall it.

[Bug 529622] Re: evolution not respondig, high cpu usage. ubuntu 10.04 alfa3

2010-03-17 Thread Aleksander Morgado
(In 10.04 lucid, updated just today)

Just having similar issue here. evolution-data-server seems running in
an endless loop, with a 100% CPU usage, which in a single-celeron
machine is easily noticed...

$ ps faxu | grep evolution
1000 1414 0.0 0.6 68340 12424 ?Sl 18:55 0:00
\_ /usr/lib/evolution/2.28/evolution-alarm-notify
1000 1421 56.6 0.4 78568 9668 ?SLl 18:55 123:09
/usr/lib/evolution/evolution-data-server-2.28
--oaf-activate-iid=OAFIID:GNOME_Evolution_DataServer_CalFactory:1.2
--oaf-ior-fd=36

The only non-usual thing I did today with Evolution is removing the
CouchDB address book used in Ubuntu One.

Attached the GDB report after attaching to the running process.

Cheers

[Bug 529622] Re: evolution not respondig, high cpu usage. ubuntu 10.04 alfa3

2010-03-17 Thread Aleksander Morgado
Aha, yeah, I can reproduce it.

Some additional background: I removed Ubuntu One using the Ubuntu
Software Center just after installing Lucid, and also removed the Ubuntu
One directory in my $HOME.

Now, I open Evolution and it goes OK until I go to the Contacts section
and I just click in the Ubuntu One CouchDB address book. Just after
the click, selecting the item in the treeview, evolution-data-server
goes to 100% CPU usage, and need to logout my current session.

BTW, there seems no way to effectively emove the Ubuntu One CouchDB
address book. I try to remove it, disappears from the treeview, I
restart Evolution and there it is again.

[Bug 286544] Re: The program 'f-spot' received an X Window System error

2009-11-09 Thread Aleksander Morgado

Just after installing a fully fresh Ubuntu 9.10, I changed the Theme to be New
wave. After some time, I tried to open F-Spot for first time, and crash, same
error as Roussillon's.

I change the theme back to default Human, started F-Spot and voilà, it
worked.

I changed the theme again to New wave, and re-voilà, it also works
now...

Not quite familiar with mono-based stuff, so can't tell why I got it
solved just changing the Theme...

[Bug 32089] Re: Non-i18n date formatting in Evolution time edit fields

2007-10-15 Thread Aleksander Łukasiewicz
The bug whch I described in

there 3 days before 7.10 is to be released. It makes Gutsy's default

[Bug 151697] Re: evolution calendar date bug

2007-10-15 Thread Aleksander Łukasiewicz
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 32089 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/32089

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: evolution

This is a new bug in evolution 2.12.0-0ubuntu5 and seems to be similar
  to

  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/32089

, but #32089 relates to previous versions of ubuntu.

It is also similar to bugs reported in gnome bugzilla:

  http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=329356
  http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=205137

, but again these bugs seem to affect much older versions of evolution.

  Bug description:

When creating an appointment in evolution calendar two error messages
pop up saying Incorrect date and An error has been detected while
verifying the proper date: The starting date was incorrect (the
messages are translated from Polish - original messages can be seen in
- the screenshot http://www.laestrygo.pl/zrzutekranu.png) and it is
- impossible to save the appointment.
+ the screenshot http://launchpadlibrarian.net/10003884/zrzutekranu.png)
+ and it is impossible to save the appointment.

The same bug is present in the latest final release of openSUSE 10.3, so
I assume it is an upstream gnome bug.

I also checked if the same problem appears in other language versions of
GNOME environment, but the bug affects only the Polish version. I
verified German, Spanish, US English and British English GNOME
environments of 2.20 version of Gnome and none of them seems to be
  affected by this bug.

The same problem appears when trying to edit or create contacts with
  birthday.

[Bug 152246] Re: gThumb change date to exif date

2007-10-14 Thread Aleksander Łukasiewicz
Sure, I can attach the file if it can be uploaded, as the size is almost
1MB, and when I try to resize it with gThumb exif is removed completely.

You are right that if a file has DateTime tag in exif, then the changing
date from exif in gThumb is active in Gutsy (chacked it with some other
photos), but I've always been convinced that DateTimeDititized tag is
taken when changing the date of the file. I have hp photosmart 935,
which never produces DateTime tag which can be seen in the screenshot I
uploaded previously.

The point is gThumb in Feisty could change the date of the file from
exif even when DateTime tag was not present. It's not possible now in
Gutsy version of gThumb. Besides I went through my pictures and noticed
that if i want to modify the dates of my photos I prefer using
DateTimeOriginal or DateTimeDigitized tags rather than DateTime tag,
which is not when the photo was taken originaly taken.

[Bug 67193] Re: on gnome start i get a crash report

I couldn't reproduce the bug since installing the debug packages. I may
have updated some libraries at the time (I'm on feisty, so there's quite
a lot of changes), but nothing comes to my mind.

One real difference that comes to my mind is that I have clicked the
submit bug report button in apport. Possibly the crash didn't repeat -
it could be the same file being brought to my attention many times.
Twen's comment seems to confirm that, but I can't come up with a way to
confirm or deny the theory at the moment.
