This crash just happened: 1859911 I still see those errant extensions inside of GsettingsChanges.txt, but they don't appear in the GNOME Tweak UI, nor do I see them in /home/asif/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions I have no idea where they are on disk, and I would be happy to remove them from disk if I knew where they were. I also don't see them installed via apt. I went ahead and reset the key via dconf-editor since it seems like those are stale entries, so new crashes shouldn't have that set and confound the situation. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to mutter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1859259 Title: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in meta_surface_actor_get_texture() from meta_wayland_actor_surface_real_sync_actor_state() from meta_wayland_subsurface_sync_actor_state() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1859259/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Okay, looks like my new bug in 1859890 was closed as a duplicate. As I mentioned in that bug, I both removed the extensions mentioned *and* disabled extensions entirely in GNOME Tweak. I ran into the bug in 1859890. Public bug reported: Also tracked in: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1604948 Once every few starts of Firefox on my machine ends up corrupting the display of my Wayland session badly - what looks like a lot of stray marks on my display are seen overlaid on top of all windows, not just Firefox. Logging out and logging back in resolves the issue, but there is a chance that it recurs on next launch. Steps to reproduce: 1. Start Gnome session in Wayland mode. 2. [Bug 532633] Re: [light-theme] please revert the order of the window controls back to menu:minimize, maximize, close
Unlike many here, I don't have a huge issue with moving the window controls to the left side -- like many, I was relieved that the change is planned only for the light themes, although all other themes are currently broken. However, even given that, the control order is odd. Again, unlike many here, I don't have an issue with the Mac style -- but currently, it isn't even done in the Mac OS X style. If we do want to move the controls to the left, I think it would be best to match the control order in Mac OS X, not only for familiarity (which is a reason given to keep controls on the right), but also because we aren't really certain (without given usability studies) of whether the new layout, which is different from all mainstream environments (including GNOME and KDE) is actually better, and whether this better is worth re-learning to be different. I propose that if we are going to move the controls to the left, that we ought to give careful consideration to simply using the already familiar control order from Mac OS X -- to do otherwise should be backed up by some rationale, at the very least. Placing more controls on the right is interesting, but doesn't change the problem that having a strange order (to all users) of controls gives. If we must have them on the left, can we at least go for some familiarity? -- [light-theme] please revert the order of the window controls back to menu:minimize, maximize, close https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/532633 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 538165] Re: Lucid reads file size wrong
I'm not sure I really understand why the units policy is so strange -- file sizes have always been reported on pretty much any OS I can think of as base-2 even when using SI units (wrongly). To now go to changing to base-10 just to use the SI units correctly seems wrong -- why not simply update the MB to MiB, and etc? That way, everything, from RAM sizes, to file sizes, will use the same familiar general sizes, and the units are updated to be correct, and more importantly, educational. So what if hard drive manufacturers use base-10 units? No OS ever has, and to change it to avoid confusion is solving the wrong problem, imo. We should fix the units and presentation, not create even more inconsistency -- I love that command line tools get an exemption in the units policy, and now CD media may too. If we are aiming for less confusion, creating even more inconsistency makes no sense. Why not do something more simple and more logical -- pick the binary measurements that have been in use for decades (hence the cli exemption), and update the SI units to IEC units /everywhere/. Just my two cents, even though I doubt we will see any change on the units policy, even though it has clearly not been thought through to be logical. Also, I am disappointed to see that Mac OS X has gone to SI units for reporting hard drive sizes as well, although I suspect from their KB article that they still report file sizes using base-2 and using SI units. More inconsistency, yet the units policy actually references this wrongheaded approach. -- Lucid reads file size wrong https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/538165 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Something even weirder happens when I try to change the name to a different value: 1. Open users and groups 2. Click change next to name 3. Add a letter, hit OK What happens: 4. I get an error saying: The configuration could not be saved An unknown error occurred. 5. The name *changes* in the users settings window (to the name i input). If I then close the window, and reopen it, the setting has not been applied -- my old Real Name appears. [Bug 491673] [NEW] gdm restarts Xorg after cancelling login and selecting a user to login
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm After recent updates, gdm restarts Xorg after cancelling login and selecting a user to login. Steps to reproduce: 1. bring up gdm (reboot or logout) 2. select a user to login to 3. click cancel 4. select user (same or other is fine) What happens: 5. Xorg restarts, gdm reappears. I know that Xorg is restarting because nvidia's logo appears. Expected behavior: 5. Xorg does not restart, and password input box should appear, ready to accept input. Scott, this is clearly not an invalid bug, please *triple check* before you mark bugs invalid. It's in the link that you copied and pasted into this report. Anyway, this bug is NOT resolved for me (and I am the original reporter) -- I updated a few minutes ago, but am not using the .31 kernel because the nvidia kernel module does not load yet. Re: [Bug 390027] Re: [karmic] Appearance control panel: Desktop effects could not be enabled
It was reproducible, but I reinstalled Karmic earlier today - if I see it again, after I do all the updates, I will continue to report. Basically though, I did nothing -- just did an safe-upgrade, rebooted, and I could not enable desktop effects any more. It persisted between reboots, but compiz --replace worked to bring desktop effects back, so it seemed to be a gnome-appearance-settings bug. [Bug 389996] [NEW] [karmic] Changing volume via buttons on USB headset does not update Volume Applet 2.27.3
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-media I'm using Logitech USB Headset that has hardware buttons for mute/volume up/volume down. The volume up and volume down buttons work fine, but the changes in volume are not reflected in Gnome panel's Volume Applet 2.27.3. I have changed the Volume Applet preferences to show the ALSA mixer for the headset, which is what the buttons seem to be controlling. The new notifications work just fine, and show the updated volume. Gnome volume control also shows the correct volume, and updates the volume as it is change via the hardware buttons.
