Bismillaah.   Salaam/Peace.  Thanks for your reply.  However, I have
no technical knowledge of Linux systems. Perhaps you can guide me in
finding the problem that is sidetracking this systems volume.
Literally, I now have no control of Ubuntu's volume control. The icon
at the top of Ubuntu's screen is presently inoperative.   Best

Bismillaah.  Salaam/Peace. After updating of security and other files
11/02/10, volume control near keyboard, of my notebook will not operate.
Volume is now controlled by an icon at the top of Ubuntu screen. I'm not
certain which package the bug is in, but Synaptic Package Manager shows
an audio file as follows: libaudiofile 0.2.6.7 ubuntu 1.9.0  246KB.

Thanks for the info re: alt+left.  However, firefox Backspace key does go
back to a previous page.

Peace.  My error.  Actual problem is with the back space key in epiphany
browser [not the 'return key'].
