[Bug 2059847] Re: Input lag or freezes on Nvidia desktops with X11 after logging "MetaSyncRing: Sync object is not ready -- were events handled properly?"
This does appear to fix the issue for me on 22.4.04 LTS sudo add-apt-repository ppa:vanvugt/mutter sudo apt update Then upgrade mutter-common, libmutter-10-0 and gir1.1-mutter-10 (I'm not certain if all 3 of these are required or not). This will get you version 42.9-0ubuntu7 Reboot !! I came here from 1969351. On a rig with two identical AMD GPUs (First driving one monitor, second driving three), I'll sometimes have the one monitor disconnect, but it won't detect the failure or cause the other three screens to rearrange until I try to apply a change in Display Settings, after which it will show the one monitor as missing. The system will continue operating normally for a minute or two, before crashing back to the login screen Dmesg shows these entries: [127759.552431] gnome-shell[4403]: segfault at 558324328300 ip 558324328300 sp 7ffd66257c98 error 15 [127780.586613] apport-gtk[272085]: segfault at 18 ip 7fa1e6314cf4 sp 7fff77ca9820 error 4 in libgtk-3.so.0.2404.29[7fa1e620c000+383000] [130882.632498] traps: gnome-shell[272824] general protection fault ip:7f3228a412e7 sp:7ffe4c6be868 error:0 in libgbm.so.1.0.0[7f3228a4+8000] [176834.926719] gnome-shell[285277]: segfault at 50100af ip 7f250fbc92e7 sp 7fff283ee988 error 4 in libgbm.so.1.0.0[7f250fbc8000+8000] - Sometimes the system crashes to the login screen during a screen lock without any interaction - Sometimes the system crashes to the login screen when attempting to unlock a locked session - Sometimes after unlock a session shows all the windows rearranged or consolidated into a single workspace as though a monitor was briefly disconnected. [Bug 1779476] Re: Ubuntu 18.04: gdm3 does not switch to graphics after update
I had to purge/reinstall lightdm for some reason (otherwise it was flickering on/off), but now both GDM and LightDM are working as they should on 4.15.0-24 with 'haveged' installed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm3 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1779476 Title: Ubuntu 18.04: gdm3 does not switch to graphics after update To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1779476/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1779476] Re: Ubuntu 18.04: gdm3 does not switch to graphics after update
I believe I found a solution (or at least, a temporary workaround until the potential bug is fixed). It seemed the bug was introduced in 4.15.0-24, as 4.15.0-23 works fine. I'm running an up-to-date 18.04 system on top of a Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga. I would get a blank screen with both GDM and LightDM until I started switching virtual terminals or typing my login info, at which point, it would just start up seemingly at random. I set systemd to boot to multi- user instead of graphical, and ran 'startx' and experienced the exact same delay. I took a look at the startx script source and I traced it down to a call to /usr/bin/mcookie which generates a magic number to be used with xauth. According to the BUGS section in the mcookie manpage, it states that mcookie assumes that "none of the randomness sources will block." Sure enough, doing an strace on mcookie shows it hangs at a call to getrandom(), which I'm assuming (my knowledge is a little fuzzy here) means that entropy is too low for getrandom() to generate a number. Moving the mouse around, typing a few characters or switching virtual terminals, to my knowledge, all generate some entropy so that finally when there's enough, getrandom() returns a number to mcookie, thus allowing xorg to start. TL;DR: I installed 'haveged' from the repo, which, as far as I understand, adds to the entropy on boot, allowing xorg to start without any delay. My next step is to take a look at the changelog between kernel releases and see what I can come up with as a potential cause, but I figured I would post what I've found so that others may benefit in the meantime.

[Bug 1623666] Re: iOS10 will not connect to Ubuntu
I'm not an expert, but it seems that the pace of Apple's OS changes and the updates needed by the libimobiledevice team to keep up with them might mean that one cannot rely on either Ubuntu's packaging of libimobiledevice or a separate ppa, but must just build things from the git repository, if you know how. This worked for me: 19 16:35 git clone https://github.com/libimobiledevice/libimobiledevice.git 20 16:35 cd libimobiledevice 21 16:35 ./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr/local/libimobiledevice 22 16:36 make 23 16:36 sudo make install At this point I changed my LD_LIBRARY_PATH to include /usr/local/libimobiledevice/lib at the front, so ifuse, etc., will load the new library instead of the pre-installed one. I use tcsh so that command looks like setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH /usr/local/libimobiledevice/lib: Then the following worked (after some fidgeting, rebooting my iPod Touch, etc.): 37 16:44 idevicepair pair 38 16:45 ifuse /media/iPod/ At least I can load my music into Rhythmbox, etc. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to libimobiledevice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1623666 Title: iOS10 will not connect to Ubuntu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnutls28/+bug/1623666/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 682788] Re: Improve Unity Global Menu
I first came to this bug report because I'm so frustrated with the way the Global Menu has been implemented. First of all, WHY are we auto-hiding menu options? The fact that a menu is hidden without hovering over it with the cursor is insane! All that does is cause confusion, and hides options that others might be looking for or wishing they had that they didn't know existed (because they're hidden)! Menu options should be visible at all times, where they can be discovered and easily/quickly clicked on. Right now, with everything being auto-hidden, I have to remember the menu is up at the top left of the screen (when my window is small rather than maxed), and then I have to hover the panel to see my options (very annoying/time consuming), and then I have to find the right option (if it was always visible I would have already found it), and then continue selecting what I originally wanted to accomplish. Comment #24 is 100% correct. By having the menu on the window itself, when not maximized, people have to move their eyes less, and move their arms and cursor less. It saves time and it and makes sense because the menus are connected to the app you are currently working on. By placing them in the global menu for a non-maxed window, you are confusing people as to what those menu options actually belong to, especially when you have to change focus from app to menu or to other app. Even the desktop has it's own menu.. [x] Global Menu only for maximized windows makes the most sense. Most people on small screens run their apps maximized to get the most space possible, so naturally, placing the menu in the global menu when windows are maximized keeps the menu in the same areas as when the window is non-maxed (attached to the top left of the app), and it saves space by removing an extra bar. When people have very large screens they tend to use smaller windows and would appreciate having menus attached to each app, so it's easier to know which menu belongs to what app, as well as keeping the user from having to move their eyes, arms, and cursor very far to get to what menu they want (it's faster and easier.) They won't have to worry about what app has focus to know which menu they're working with.. So the solution is simple! When windows are maxed use the global menu, and NEVER auto-hide them; at it saves space, but is also technically the same thing as having the menu on the app window itself because it appears in the correct area of the window itself (and it's not confusing because it will never be auto-hidden.) When windows are not maxed, keep the menu attached to the window itself, so people have less to think about, and less hand/eye movement (It's also faster and easier.) On a side note.. Showing the title before the menu is kind of annoying as well.. If anything, the title should be placed after the menu so the menu and close/max/min buttons are always in the same place. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/682788 Title: Improve Unity Global Menu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/682788/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 936678] Re: [regression] Laptop no longer suspends when I close the lid
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue. However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all. Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request further testing. This is such a request. We have noted that there is a newer version of the development kernel than the one you last tested when this issue was found. Please test again with the newer kernel and indicate in the bug if this issue still exists or not. You can update to the latest development kernel by simply running the following commands in a terminal window: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade If the bug still exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to Confirmed. If the bug no longer exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to Fix Released. If you want this bot to quit automatically requesting kernel tests, add a tag named: bot-stop-nagging. Hello Sebastien, You won't believe this. Earlier today, I ran updates that I have been alerted to by my computer. I didn't restart the computer until after I got your email - about 15 minutes ago - and once everything restarted, the problem was solved and everything works as it should (as far as I know). Seriously. I have had to run multiple system updates since switching over to Nautilus. Perhaps those updates were not completed until now. In any case, I no longer have the same problems that I had, and they were solved, really, within the last 15 minutes. Thanks for getting back to me. It's much appreciated, even if you didn't do much.
